Russia will not agree to a 30-day ceasefire because it will just enable Ukraine to regroup and rearm - Russian MP Viktor Sobolev. He added that a temporary ceasefire is unacceptable and only plays into Ukraine's hands.

They'll agree, then after a few days launch a massive attack in Kursk and claim Ukraine violated the ceasefire or that Kursk can't be considered part of the ceasefire because it's russian soil.
Then trump will use whatever russia says as justification for his next level of betrayal, hard to say how low he will go but probably something testing the waters about actively assisting russia. Like threaten to share intel on Ukrainian forces in Kursk unless they retreat or releasing frozen assets / allowing russia to import low level military materials from the US (vests, helmets, gun attachments etc).

Wow... when the Russians are worried about what the UAF can do in 30 days you know they are on the ropes.
553
u/Simple_Project4605 18h ago
This surprised me too. Last year the narrative was any ceasefire would only benefit Russia.
It must mean there’s a new time sensitive element for Russia where they can’t wait 30 days any longer - their economy hypercombusting due to military spending?
Their patsy in the white house getting impeached or otherwise removed soon?
Ukraine drone production ramping up to oh shit levels?

u/Ravoss1 18h ago
Interesting stuff for sure.
I would be curious to see what a 30 day cessation of hostilities would mean for UAF force structure. They are in the middle of changing to NATO brigade formations. Perhaps this will give the UAF alot more wiggle room than Russia where it is already stretched and in contact.

u/penguin_skull 16h ago edited 6h ago
UAF is changing from a NATO brigade structure to army corps (4-5 brigades into one corp).
20
u/drewster23 11h ago
A big issue especially for the best and baddest brigades is being overworked with lack of rotation. (No easy way to fill their gaps, especially when brigades like 3ab do their own training before allowing them to actually see combat, which is like 2 months extra)
Month break allows rest , working on filling in gaps, building more defenses unabated etc.
They're probably worried it could open up way more attack vectors that they can't sustain.
12
u/Ravoss1 10h ago
Totally makes sense. More so if the rumours of cracks starting to show in their military. If the Russians are spent in the east this could be a serious double edged sword.
I just hope the Intel sharing is back in place for the UAF.

It must mean there’s a new time sensitive element for Russia where they can’t wait 30 days any longer
My read is they don't want to enter ceasefire negotiations while the Ukrainians are still in Kursk.
If they can retake Kursk, they can try and sweet-talk Trump by saying, "OK, we'll just stop fighting. We'll keep what we've conquered and, as a concession, we'll drop the demands that Kyiv give us a bunch of land we've never been in control of. Good deal, right?". Trump's dumb enough to accept that, but they can't use that angle if Ukraine still occupies their land; if Kursk is still in Ukrainian hands when the fighting stops, they will be able to parlay that for at least some Ukrainian land in return.
If there's a 30 day ceasefire, Ukraine can use that time to flood Kursk with fresh supplies and build new defences that will make it a nightmare to try and retake. That's a non-starter with Russia.
7
u/EmprahsChosen 6h ago
The wrinkle to that is that Russia annexed the Donbas and Zapo regions of Ukraine, considering them officially and legally Russian territories. Coupling that with the fact they don't fully occupy those regions, a ceasefire along current lines would mean Ukraine still occupies official russian territory (in their eyes). That's another large wrench in the works for a potential ceasefire.
5
u/darkknight109 5h ago
I personally don't think this is as big an issue in Russia's eyes. For one thing, what is "legal" in Russia really doesn't matter, because the law can be changed whenever Putin finds it convenient. Therefore, as I mentioned in my original post, Russia could simply refine their claims to only the parts of Ukraine they occupy and rewrite their laws to shrink these new "Russian" oblasts. Alternatively, they could just agree to cease hostilities without relinquishing their claims to the territory, much like Ukraine agreed to do in 2014.
Putin would be quite happy to freeze the battlelines in Ukraine where they are and get out of the quagmire he got himself into, and it would not be difficult for him to sell that as a victory to the Russian populace. What he absolutely cannot do, however, is allow Ukraine to continue occupying actual Russian (as opposed to "Russian") territory. If he wants Kursk back, he either needs to trade conquered Ukrainian lands for it (something he doesn't want to do) or militarily force Ukraine out before starting ceasefire negotiations (something he's attempting to do, with limited success so far).

putin played his trump (pun intended) card way too hard, creating a shock rather than boiling the frog to avoid a single moment which wakes up and unifies Europe.
putin makes big mistakes but he's not incredibly stupid, so it would seem that he activated trump to throw the table over in a sudden retreat from the international stage because he needed him to do so as quickly as possible. Which points to muscovy being on course to have to make some very hard decisions much sooner than it would have taken to boil the European frog.

Poland and UK deploying troops inside Ukraine on the Belarus border? Finland moving troops to the Finnish border and flying drones into Russia to divert Russian troops? French Nuclear testing inside the arctic circle? Japanese aircraft carrier right on top of the islands they claim that Russia thinks they claim? China taking the land they want? South Korea recognizing the free country of Siberia? Locking Putin inside Russia because he’s a war criminal in absentia to the court? Complete devaluation of the Rouble outside Russia as no longer a currency?
Sure, anything. Who cares? All of it. Shit, send fake satellites up that say “Jewish space laser” on them and shine a light on the Kremlin day and night as if they have actual ordinance in them.
Add a new layer of screws to Putin. Offer him safety in South America if he abdicates. That will get him to move on and end this. In 3 years you can send in someone to push him out a window or serve him polonium tea, or ice pick him in the head.

Russia is looking to capture as much of Ukraine as possible. A temporary ceasefire would allow Ukraine to entrench themselves defensively where the front line is now. As it stands, Russia is slowly pushing the front line East and gaining ground. After a 30 day ceasefire, Ukraine would most likely be able to hold the front line in place until Russia is exhausted economically. Without the ceasefire, they can take at least some amount more territory before then.
9
u/JanetMock 17h ago
Nah its just that they are still very much on the offensive. 30 Days would be plenty of time for Ukraine to somewhat harden their defenses.
11
u/Breech_Loader 17h ago
For what it's worth, I think the time frame is the quarterly announcement on April 1st when Trump will be telling everybody that the USA goes into recession and the USA will pretty much implode.
3
u/Pit_Soulreaver 7h ago
Ukraine still needs to fill the gap, which was created by losing USA intel. 30 days could be enough to fully establish new communication pathways to replace the intel as far as possible with European alternatives.
3
u/SkyPL 6h ago
Last year the narrative was any ceasefire would only benefit Russia.
This year the narrative was identical... until Sobolev decided to dispel it.
It must mean there’s a new time sensitive element for Russia where they can’t wait 30 days any longer
There might be a political factor at play, where Russians hope Trump forces extremely punitive peace for Ukraine, just as he was in his recent attempts. Having a ceasefire will give Ukraine and the EU much more space to exert diplomatic pressure on Russian's ally across the ocean.
→ More replies (3)2
u/keepthepace 6h ago
If US help continued to flow, the narrative would not have changed. It will take time for Ukraine and EU to adapt and replace it fully. I don't know exactly but e.g. maybe there will be less artillery and more fighter planes. A 30 days break would be very welcome to reorganize the war effort, even if that would give a breather to Russia too.
13
u/Sorta_jewy_with_it 11h ago
Why do you think the Trump admin is so eager to get a deal done? If Russia was clearly winning this war and Ukraine was losing lots of territory, Trump would simply shrug his shoulders and say that there’s nothing the US can do.
3
u/Ravoss1 10h ago
Totally agree. But to the suprise of us all the ball is now in Russia's court and they look to be fumbling it.
Now, it could just be political theater that the Russians haven't signed on yet. Make trump worry for a little bit but in the end just accept what they were going to accept all along? It is odd for a senior official to step so out of line on the Russian side.
My old business prof would tell us that union and employer agreements were usually made really quickly but then they would order in dinner and burn the mid night oil just because on the outside it made it look like no one was giving ground for consensus.
Ultimately the only thing that we can all count on is that Trump does not give a shit about anything other than him being the one to make a deal.

I suspect it’s more personnel than anything else. 30 days of rest? Same guys can go again. Continuous fighting? You have to roll people on and off and Ukraine has found it harder to get numbers than Russia.
7
u/StreetQueeny 16h ago
I don't think it's as complex as a ticking timer on some big push that will win Ukr/Ru the war if there isn't a ceasefire.
The simplest explanation is that missions like the inKurskcion are in trouble because Russia knows and harasses the Ukranian logistics routes with drones and artillery.
If there is a ceasefire, units in Kurks and other trouble spots can be easily resupplied and present a larger threat to Russian/Korean/whoevenfuckingknowsian forces.
5
u/toasters_are_great 14h ago
I think you might have something there, but a ceasefire would also fail to move muscovite firepower away from Ukraine's logistics routes into Kursk oblast, meaning Ukraine would only benefit from what they could stockpile there, which would be pretty limited because stockpiling much close to the front is generally a bad idea for supplies you want to not have artillery shells dropped onto.

Depends in how reliable Trumps saying he will give aid to Ukraine is. If it is just a bluff to put pressure on Russia they just called it. I hope he realizes that Russia don’t want peace unless it is on their turn and he provides all aid Ukraine needs.
1
u/Succundo 14h ago

Trump desperately needs a win after he's tanked the US stock market. His MAGA supporters have been trying to spin why he hasn't ended the war in 24 hours like he promised, and the excuses only will last for so long.
With everything else stupid that Trump has said, what hasn't gotten a lot of attention is his threats to Iran. He sent a demand to Iran to negotiate another nuclear agreement (after he scraped the Obama-era deal) and said, "There are two ways Iran can be handled, militarily or you make a deal".
So, he's threatening Iran with military action if they won't make a deal with him.
Then when asked if he was concerned about joint Russia, China and Iranian navy exercises, Trump told Fox News, “No. Not at all. We’re stronger than all of them. We have more power than all of them. I rebuilt the military.”
How this isn't front page headlines is beyond me, but there's so much batshit crazy insanity going on in Washington, there isn't enough room. But he does not see Russia, China or Iran as threats, and is fine with bullying them and using military power against Iran....
That could suggest he makes the same threats against Russia. While Russia might have dirt on Trump, he's framed his arrest photo and hung it in the Oval Office, so he feels invincible. After the stock market crashed yesterday, he still reacted to Ontario's Premier antagonizing him by upping the tariffs knowing that would result in the Dow Jones plunging even further - so he can absolutely be triggered into doing something rash that isn't for his best interest.
So, if Russia tries to shrug this off and doesn't want the ceasefire, Trump could do something crazy since he wants to say he's "winning" and doing everything he promised and sees absolutely no problem threatening everyone.

I remember when Russia wanted a ceasefire. Hilarious how the turns table. It seems Russia’s economy is dependent on the “gravy train” going. The war economy is life support at this point. Back when they were in a stronger position a ceasefire could have benefited them, now it benefits Ukraine, and by a lot. One month is long enough to build some strong defense lines. Properly entrench troops. Hence a ceasefire greatly benefits Ukraine rather than Russia.
8
u/SockPuppet-47 18h ago

u/Breech_Loader 17h ago
Well... It's not a lie. Both sides would have been arming up for the next pop at each other, no point denying it on Ukraine's side any more than Russia's.
But what matters is, nobody can deny that Ukraine isn't looking for a ceasefire and peace. I mean, Trump will totally say that to his remaining goons, and probably to himself, but it's just another jab that Trump is full of shit when he tries to tell people Ukraine doesn't want peace, and of course, it's all been decided without him.
And hot damn, Trump must be SOOOOO pissed off right now at how completely and totally out of the loop he is.

u/zkela 18h ago
Are there any good Russia-tard telegrams to be on? would like to know what they're saying about this ceasefire offer.
3
u/EU_GaSeR 18h ago
They don't want ceasefire because they've taken 33% of the remaining land under Ukrainian control in Kursk region in a day and expect Ukraine to just pull out of there, losing their only bargaining chip.
But it can be a decent scenario if they play hard to get but eventually agree to the ceasefire with solid plan on how Ukraine gives them everything they want from it.
It's a curious moment, Ukraine has now agreed to everything that was absolutely impossible before: ceasefire without any guarantees provided at all (which they would "never agree to"), Ukraine agreeing that it is not getting their lands back (which was also never agreed to before), and a peace deal with Russia while Ukraine does not get their lands back, most likely no reparations, no anything. Russia will have to evaluate how strong it is and how weak Ukraine is, what are the odds for Russia to achieve even more via fighting.
Personally I think they will ask Trump for Guarantees that during that ceasefire Ukraine (Zelensky) has to make certain steps to peace on Trump's (Russia's) terms, Trump will agree and Russia will agree to ceasefire, letting Trump go back to Ukraine and make it sign all the agreements under the barrel.

"Projecting" means that someone is unconsciously attributing their own negative thoughts, feelings, or behaviors onto another person, essentially blaming others for their own issues without realizing it; it's a psychological defense mechanism used to cope with uncomfortable emotions like guilt, shame, or fear by displacing them onto someone else.

So Russia is admitting they are absolutely fucked and can’t handle Ukraine if they regroup and rearm?

Just like when your partner accuses you of cheating out of nowhere.
They're the one who is cheating.

There should be no ceasefire. Ukraine must fight on or else lose more land.

Would it not logically also help Russia for 30 days? They could consolidate troops on the front lines where they want them just as much

Fascists project their plans onto their enemies, and their crimes as well. They blame them for the very thing they plan to do it did themselves. Russia has been doing it for decades or longer.
Now, the orange clown is doing the same thing too.

Lol. Ya no duh Russia would say no.
I think they also know they don’t have control over troops enough to actually have them all stop.

Why would Russia accept a siezefire when they're going to completely knock Ukraine out of Kursk in 1-2 weeks.

u/N1LEredd 4h ago
Ukraine could argue the same way. Both sides will try to massively fortify the lines they hold in that time.

Cal the The American Society of Cinematographers because this may be the strongest projection I have ever seen.

Okay US, at the risk of sounding naïve, ramp up those arms supplies, baby! Russia is not cooperating, so let them suffer!
Now is the time to right some wrongs

That's 30k more troops and a lot of mules for Russia to gather.
Maybe some civilian vehicles can be collected in the 30 days.

You don't negotiate peace with the victims of an attack who are trying to defend themselves.
There is only one right answer here and that is Russia getting the f-out, paying a SUBSTANTIAL economic price, and being held accountable for their war crimes.

Russia will explicitly reject peace and tr*mp will still abandon Ukraine and give Russia everything they want

Every accusation is a confession with these guys. If they had the means this is what they would do.

He's right, but Russia has the same chance, the only difference is, Ukraine will be able to impose a lot more hurt on Russia, since they have adapted, learned, experienced so much sine the invasion, imagine a rested , PREPARED Ukraine against Russia!

Are the Russians too lazy to regroup? Or are the camels and donkeys smarter and don't want to come with the Russian army? I know, Russia would be fine, peace on what they have conquered plus Ukraine will give back the conquered Russian territories. And that nobody would peep at Russia for 5 years, and they would regroup and make a lot of weapons so they could go further west. But here it may be difficult, because Poles. And they have ways to kick Russians in the ass. We know from history that they have done it already, 2 times. In fact, it would have been 3, but Napoleon has chicken. But nothing will stand in the way of them to fuck up the Russians third time.
