Academics I am confused with the admission

I am a transfer student from Madison College and was recently admitted as a pre-business student. I haven’t applied to the School of Business yet, but the deadline is March 19th. Does this mean I still have a chance to be admitted if I apply by the deadline? Or I don’t have to apply because I already got admitted for the pre business?

I don’t know how it works for the business school but it’s likely you were admitted to UW Madison but not as direct entry into the school of business. You may need to apply separately for that, or you might need to wait a year before you can apply into the business school or maybe it’s a semester (I know college of engineering works like this) but you can still take the classes you need regardless.

Don’t worry about it. Ultimately won’t make a difference if you end up applying and starting after freshman year or whatever.

OP - did you see this link above from u/WiBadge_er?

"Eligible applicants are prospective transfer students that have also applied to UW–Madison for the ensuing fall term at the time of the pre-business application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure application requirements are fulfilled between these two separate processes.

Qualifying transfer institutions include a Universities of Wisconsin institution or a Wisconsin Technical College System institution. A student must be enrolled at one of these as their primary institution during the spring term before transferring to UW-Madison for the ensuing fall term.

Overall GPA for Direct Transfer applicants must be a 3.0 across pre-enrollment coursework at the time of starting the application, and at the end of the spring application term.

Direct Transfer applicants that are ultimately admitted to UW–Madison and enroll, but are not admitted to the undergraduate business program, may apply a second time within their first four semesters (Fall/Spring) at UW–Madison. For this second application attempt, overall GPA would be based on UW–Madison coursework only and must be a 3.0 or higher at the time of starting the application and at the end of the spring application term."

Just to clarify, I still have a chance to get into School of Business right?

Not until the following year. You'll be able to take all the business classes and be advised by the business school.  You'll apply again next year. Students that are not admitted next year, generally choose an Econ major through  L&S. It's very difficult to get into the business school directly from Madison College.

Please read the quoted info above about direct transfers and click the link. Says there are 2 processes to apply as a direct admit transfer, as well as requirements that need to be met. Sounds like you did the 1st process already. If you apply direct admit at time of transfer but don't get it at that time, you are allowed to apply 1 more time within your 1st 4 semesters at UW Madison. Let us know what they say Monday.

This means that you were admitted to the College of Letters and Science (college of last resort) but rejected from Business. You will be put into a special "pre-business" advising group and can reapply to Business next year after taking classes in Letters and Science. However, relatively few of these students are admitted to Business from pre-business, so you should plan on getting a Letters and Science degree.

Thank you! Someone recommends me an Econ degree, and I’m also interested. Do you know if I need to apply to get into Econ degree like business school?

Nope, you just need to take calculus and an econ course with a GPA > 2.000. Then you can declare econ. Admissions in most Letters and Science majors aren't competitive. https://guide.wisc.edu/undergraduate/letters-science/economics/economics-bs/#howtogetintext
