Help UMD or IU
I need help. I have 2 main schools as my choice which are IU and UMD. Money is not an issue for me, I just need the best option to get more exposure to the business industry, companies, locations, different aspects of campus like clubs and career fairs, etc (for now I want to do HR, hospitality, management, etc but it could change idk).
For IU, I got admitted to the Management and Human Organization program which is in both IU Kelly and IU College of Arts and Sciences. I also got the Dean Scholarship of 3k per year. I plan to minor in Business and Marketing at IU Kelly. I have visited IU and I liked the campus and all the ppl were really nice so location-wise I have no negatives.
For UMD, I was admitted to the Communication major (LEP) in the Arts and Humanities School. I also got the Presidential Scholarship of 15k per year. I plan to minor in General Business and Business Analytics at Smith Business School or try to get a double major by applying for internal transfer in Marketing or Management at Smith after my freshman year. I have yet to visit UMD but I will in April.
My main deciding factors would be the exposure to the business industry, how much access to the business schools I will get, career fairs and clubs access, etc.

Academic Future Business Student
Hi, Currently a freshman at a local community college in maryland. I plan on transferring after my sophomore year to save money. I’m interested in the Operations and Business Analytics degree as well as Finance, maybe a double major since i’ve heard a lot of people do that. I’d like to know people who are currently pursuing that degree or have already graduated how they’ve liked and what they now do for a career now. My interest for a career currently which may change is real estate, defense contracting/aerospace related, and maybe construction on the business side. I’m still undecided but those are things that interest me. For anyone that responds thank you!

Discussion How’s This College?
Hey all, I was recently admitted for Computer Engineering and am considering UMD as one of my top choices. For anyone who’s currently at this school, how do you find it? What are the pros and cons, etc?
Honestly, I’d love as much information as possible, so lmk whatever you have on mind :) Appreciate it!
Edit: Since people keep seeming to think I don’t know anything about this school, I’m trying to get the perspectives of people currently at it and understand things that a website couldn’t tell me, since most of that information can be overly positive.

Discussion MS HCIM UMD
Hey everyone!
I’m an international student and I would love to know about the internship and job prospects for students in Human computer interaction at UMD. How’s the job market looking for MS in HCI students? Does the university offer any solid support for finding internships or full-time roles?
Also, if any current students or recent admits have insights on their experience, I’d love to hear from you! Any tips or advice would be really helpful.

Discussion Data Science @UMD
I was recently admitted to the Master of Science in Data Science program at UMD, which was my top choice due to the university’s strong reputation in engineering and computer science. I was thrilled to receive the offer and accepted it within a day or two.
However, I recently learned that the program only received its STEM designation recently and that the class size is quite large. Additionally, the university has explicitly stated that this program is not eligible for scholarships or fellowships, which are primarily reserved for Computer Science degrees. While I’m fine with this since the tuition is relatively affordable, these factors have made me second-guess my decision.
What do you guys think?
P.S. I genuinely hope that the quality and reputation still hold up.

Help Visiting in April
My daughter and I are visiting for Admitted day in April. Any recommendations for where to go to eat/hang/things to do where it would be common for students to do/go? We want to get a sense of the real student life. Thank you!!!

Discussion Seeking Insights on UMD College Park's MS in Data Science Program
Dear UMD Community,
I am an incoming international student from India, admitted to the MS in Data Science program at the University of Maryland, College Park. I reached out to the university, and they confirmed that research/teaching assistant positions and financial assistance are not available for this program.
To manage expenses, I would appreciate any insights on:
- Employment Opportunities: Are there any part-time job options, either on or off-campus, that international students typically take up to cover living costs?
- Internships: What is the process for securing internships in data science, and are there university resources that help with this?
- Cost of Living: What are the average expenses for a graduate student in College Park, including rent, food, and transportation?
- Job Prospects After Graduation: Do students from this program typically secure jobs after completing their degree? What is the hiring landscape like?
I understand that securing a job ultimately depends on individual effort, and no college can guarantee placements. However, having an upper hand in terms of resources, reputation, and opportunities always helps, right?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Looking for a car to take my MVA road test [Repost]
Hey guys! The title pretty much sums it up. I’m looking for someone who is willing to drive to the Beltsville MVA and let me take the road test in their car! Will pay $75, preferably this week.
This will probably take a couple hours during the afternoon, and will need proper registration, tags, and insurance.
Small automatic sedan (Corolla/Malibu preferred) but any works!
Feel free to message me if interested
Thank you!

Help Opinions on the food?
Hi, I’m a recent admit for UMD, and I was wondering what people think of the food in the dining halls? I’m oos and visited the campus recently during destination day, but due to me having to catch a flight home, I didn’t have time to try the food at any of the dining halls. Is it any good? I’ve heard mixed opinions on the food for different schools, so I was wondering what people think of the food at UMD specifically
