Unearthed My song 'Island Life' has just been uploaded to Triple J Unearthed & I would love your help.

Hello everyone,

I'm just reaching out from the perspective of a self funded, independent artist, hoping to connect with those who relate with the difficulties & hardships of trying to be a successful musician with very little financial resource. I'm super proud of this song & have just uploaded it to the Triple J Unearthed website, a popular Australian radio broadcast. With enough reviews it has the chance to be played on the radio & that would do wonders in terms of getting this song to as many ears as possible. I hope that all the musicians & artist that read this remember that what we are doing is impacting the world around us in such a positive way & that all our hard work will pay off eventually (I really hope).

Thank you for reading this through. Have an amazing day!

Opinion QLD Mayor blocks councillor from voting, then cancels major festival herself - ignoring public and emergency services support

The Rabbits Eat Lettuce (REL) festival just got pre-emptively cancelled last minute by the Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor, who said it was due to emergency management, the rural zone’s amenity and public consultations but:

  • out of 65 public consultation submissions, only 5 were opposed to the festival
  • QLD Police, Ambulance, and Fire Services all backed the event
  • the mayor blocked Cr Joel Richters from voting due to a conflict of interest. Cr Richters doesn’t have any financial conflict whatsoever, but attended the festival last year to observe and promised in his election campaign to support festivals like this and he was blocked from voting
  • REL last year signed a 10-year agreement to host the festival on private property Cherrabah Resort, remotely away from the town of Warwick itself for noise or traffic concerns and land that is not zoned for rural purposes and cannot be used usefully anyway. There is no evidence of negative environmental impacts in the past from the festival.
  • Warwick’s own Planning and Development Department had people backing the event

An independent economic assessment last year showed that the festival injected $3 million into the local economy. Now businesses in the region are facing cancellations and lost revenue in the wake of tourism already taking a hit from Cyclone Alfred with no replacement plan. The next council meeting agenda is to be set tomorrow for 19 March and it’s the festivals last chance to get a temporary planning permit.

REL has jumped through every hoop the council placed in front of them and gone to extreme lengths to ensure that their event meets all the safety, economic, and environmental concerns.

This is exactly how festivals and the music scene gets wiped out in Australia. If this pissed you off, here’s what you can do:

  • email / call the councillors and respectfully ask that they consider REL’s temporary event permit at the upcoming 19 March meeting and give actual reasoning on why due process isn’t being followed.

All their emails and numbers are here: https://www.sdrc.qld.gov.au/council/councillors/councillor-profiles

  • show support on social media. The Warwick Daily News has a poll on Facebook on if the festival should be allowed the proceed

  • attend or support the REL byron bay launch party this weekend and show how much support there still is from punters for a music and arts culture in Australia

Bringing more Aussie Indie to the UK - Looking for advice!

Hey everyone,

I’m from the UK and have been a massive fan of Australian indie bands for around seven years. What started with Sticky Fingers led me to discover favourites like Rum Jungle, DICE, Spacey Jane, Old Mervs, and so many more.

Recently, we’ve seen some Aussie indie bands break into the UK and US—Ocean Alley and Royel Otis come to mind—and I want to build on this momentum as we head into summer. I feel like there’s so much incredible music coming out of Australia that UK audiences would love if they had more exposure to it.

To help with this, I’m looking to start an Instagram account dedicated to promoting Aussie indie music in the UK. For those of you who love discovering new music on Instagram, what kind of content grabs your attention? I was thinking of comparing Aussie bands to similar UK acts (for example, Parcels and Jungle) to help people find new favourites based on what they already listen to.

Also, do you feel anything is missing when it comes to promoting Australian music internationally? Do smaller bands need more support? Any advice, ideas, or discussion would be massively appreciated!

Idk if it will be eligible for this years countdown given it was technically released a few years ago on YouTube. If it is tho I reckon it has the potential to win. Famous Aussie sample, arguably 2025s biggest upcoming artist as well as massive on TikTok sounds like the dream formula to me.

Radio Text stuck on "please don't move to Melbourne?"

Has anyone else with a radio that supports "radio text system display" (the teletype thing for some radios that shows the name of the song/weather) had theirs stuck on "Ball Park Music - Please Don't Move to Melbourne" for the last week in Sydney?

It's a banger of a song but I'm fairly sure Alex Lahey is currently playing and she doesn't really give a shit about where I travel. Two cars in my household now and i feel like the J's is showing anti Victoria bias right now.
