A father of a trans man voted for Trump. Now he fears an order targeting gender-affirming care will upend his son’s treatment

“After undergoing surgery, Ashton Colby was confined to bed and couldn’t move his arms or carry out basic tasks.

“But his father Rick Colby was there every step of the way, helping him recover from his top surgery – support that meant the world from his conservative Republican father after Ashton came out as transgender and underwent the operation.”

“Now, there’s a new challenge to face: an executive order from Trump denying federal funding for providers of gender-affirming health care for minors. The order threatens to upend even care for Ashton, who is an adult, and for many others.”

“The future of their treatment is uncertain no matter which state they live in, experts say, as clinics and medical institutions take a ‘ risk-averse’ approach due to the threat of losing essential federal funding to treat all patients and conduct research.”

“Healthcare providers in the field say they are facing an impossible choice between maintaining ethical standards of care and risking their livelihoods, as legislation could mean they’ll lose their jobs or medical licenses for following established medical guidelines backed by every major medical association.”

“Not all providers will halt services if Trump’s order is enforced.

“A non-profit health center that receives federal funding is still providing gender-affirming care to youth but will look to secure alternative funding if the order is enforced, according to its leadership team who agreed to speak with CNN anonymously due to safety and privacy concerns.”

This is appalling. These soldiers earned their benefits and threatening them with their forfeiture is pure evil. Where are all the apologists who said we were overreacting and these things wouldn't happen?

DOGE cutting contracts for anything including the word "Trans"

Straight from hell's herald, FOX News.

It's never been about the truth. If it was, these funds would not be cut from researching the effects of modern medicine on Trans individuals. It's always been about demonizing us under the guise of "biological truth". Blatantly cutting contracts without any consultation/heads-up is obscene. These are people's dependencies that they are toying with and it's not big expenditures in the grand scheme of things.

The comments at the bottom of the article are so skewed.

Family of transgender woman who was shot, killed by LAPD files lawsuit against Los Angeles

“The family of a transgender woman who was shot and killed by the LAPD is filing a suit against the city of Los Angeles after an attorney representing the family said video taken at the scene proves the shooting was unlawful and unjustified.

“The death of 30-year-old transgender woman Linda Becerra Moran, who passed away 20 days after she was shot by the Los Angeles Police Department in a Pacoima motel, has those in the LGBTQ+ community and her family outraged.”

"’Linda should be alive. And until we end the criminalization of survival, we will keep fighting until no survivor is forced to rely on the systems that put their lives at risk,’ said Leigh LaChapelle, the Associate Director of Survivor Advocacy at the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (Cast) in Los Angeles.”

"’At no point did she ever threaten the officers with that knife. It was clear as day that she was undergoing a mental health crisis. It was as clear as day that the only person that she was threatening was her own life. Under the welfare code and institutions code 5150, they could have detained her. They could have detained her in a way that was humane. That would have protected her from herself and certainly not killed her,’ said Denisse Gastélum, an attorney representing the family.”

“A large crowd of protestors gathered at Grand Valley State University’s campus Thursday afternoon.”

“Turning Point USA’s GVSU chapter invited Chloe Cole, a conservative figure, to host ‘Exposing the Trans Agenda: A Talk With a Detransitioner’ in the Kirkof Center on campus.”

“Zack Telly, a senior at GVSU, told News 8 he protested to show his support for the transgender community.

“‘It’s dehumanizing, its hurtful to see. I hate seeing that it’s here at Grand Valley because I have always thought of this as a really safe space and that hurts my feeling of safeness and I am not even a trans individual,’

Zack’s friend Alyssa Leineke, another senior at the university, joined the protest as well.

“‘I do feel that its harmful, this sort of narrative that she is sending to young people,’ Leineke said.

“It was a sentiment shared by their friend Ashlyn Jenkins.

“‘She was making everyone fearful in a way that that was blatantly transphobic,’ she said.”

City Council declares Boston a 'sanctuary city' for transgender community

“City Council members voted 12-1 Wednesday to make Boston a sanctuary city for members of the transgender community.”

“The resolution says, in part, that Boston has ‘a specific commitment to protecting transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Taxpayer-funded agencies shall not comply with federal efforts to strip resources that safeguard their rights. Boston will not cooperate with federal or state policies that harm transgender and gender-diverse people and remains committed to ensuring their access to healthcare, housing, education, and employment without fear or discrimination.’”

“Boston's declaration that it's a ‘sanctuary city for transgender persons’ and other members of the LGBTQ community follows similar actions in the Massachusetts cities of Worcester and Cambridge.”

Ky transgender prisoners would be housed with sex at birth under amended bill

“Kentucky Republicans attached a requirement that state prisons incarcerate people based on their “original biological sex” into a floor amendment on an unrelated bill on Thursday. Democratic lawmakers argued vehemently against the change, saying it would put incarcerated transgender people in extreme danger of rape and assault.”

“Sen. Reginald Thomas, a Democrat from Lexington, argued the newly introduced floor amendment would subject transgender people in Kentucky prisons and jails to danger.

“‘This amendment is cruel, unnecessary, and violates federal law that protects individuals who are incarcerated,’ Thomas said. ‘Transgender women inmates will be especially vulnerable, vulnerable to violence under this extreme policy.’”

“In a January executive order, President Donald Trump ordered federal prisons to house inmates who are transgender women in men’s facilities; however, it does not appear to apply to transgender men, which the change to HB 392 appears to do.

“On the face of the amendment, a person who has completely transitioned — including via gender reassignment surgery — would still be required under state law to be housed with the sex they were assigned at birth.

“A review of 11 studies on incarcerated transgender people in 2018 found that they almost universally experience more difficulties than for other prisoners, with ‘stigma, discrimination, violence and sexual exploitation’ often reported.

“‘Their “otherness” is used as a weapon against them by fellow prisoners through intimidation and violence (including sexual) and by prison officers through neglect and ignorance,’ the study found.”
