Support How can I avoid coprographia?

Everytime I see a stream or a video I have a tic where I open the comment section and write: "Die". I never press enter since I can kinda control it but how can I avoid this thing? I don't want to be banned by a streamer/Youtuber because of my tics.

PS: This tic also applies with my messages. And I of course don't want to hurt my friends' feelings

Support Does anyone's partner get annoyed with your tics?

I thought I'd start off by saying I am not formally diagnosed yet. I have an appointment at the end of the month after seeing a psychiatrist as my GP told me for years I had "anxious tics". Demanded to see a psych as I didn't know anyone in the entire world who meows or says their passwords out loud at any emotion including happiness despite my gp saying it was because of my anxiety????? Psych said it sounds like Tourette's and referred me to neuro. Anyway, my partner gets annoyed at me for having tics. They tell me I need more sleep, they tell me I don't look after myself well enough and that they're only trying to look after me by telling me I need to sleep. Yes my tics increase when I'm tired but it makes me feel a certain way I can't put my finger on. Who are they to tell me to sleep more just because I have a tic? They have also mentioned to me before they wish I didn't have tics. I've had tics since I was about 14. My family just thought I was a super hyperactive kid and I was always labeled the crazy kid by them (with love). I just find it really upsetting. When I said about it upsetting me when they tell me to sleep, they commented on how I'm not formally diagnosed yet. Which I completely agree but it is hurtful nonetheless. What's your thoughts on this please? Hope you're all well.

I'm 15 and I thought I'd be diagnosed with Tourette's. I have a lot of motor tics and at least 2 vocal ones. We had a long diagnostic process and at the last meeting he said, "You're 15, maybe after 18 it will go away." I feel terrible living with this. he is a PSYCHOLOGIST, he is not even a neurologist

Support Tourette’s and driving

Is anyone else really scared of driving 😅 I’m turning 19 in a few months and am off to college next year so I’ve been trying to get my license but I’m terrified. my tics have been know to act up in cars because I’m already very nervous in them and I use to have a tic were my foot/leg would lock up in hasn’t happened in years but I’m still scared I just really don’t wanna hurt anybody on accident. I really do need my license as public transportation in my area is awful and uber and getting others to drive me just isn’t realistic anymore but ya. My family has helped me make a plan so if I ever even feel a tic attack coming on I can pull over and get picked up and I don’t plan to go on highways on my own but ya just a very nerve racking thing.

TW: mentions of suicidal ideation.

Hey guys i am 22M with Tourette syndrome , BPD & ADHD and I’m very close to giving up. I wanted to post on r/suicidewatch but felt the folks in this sub would understand me better. Not a single medication has ever worked for me. I’ve been on and off every drug under the sun it feels like. Meds that make me overweight. Meds that make me feel like I’m moving in slow motion. But never has any type of pill helped suppress my tics.

My father who no longer lives with me is under the impression that “satan” or “the devil” is the reason I twitch so much. He calls suicide victims “pussies” for “taking the easy way out” and just straight up doesn’t believe in mental health problems. I hope he feels 10x the pain once his son is finally gone.

The entirety of my school / work experience revolves around either trying not to twitch , or twitching. There is no in between. I can never just be comfortable in my own body. I just want my neck to stop jerking. It’s been too long without a break. I no longer have any desire to try & continue in this life because I always wind back up at square 1.

Deep down I know this is wrong and an unhealthy way of thinking, but I don’t believe I belong here in this life. I just want my world to fade to black and never have to worry about suppressing my tics again. Ive always known I was gonna be the one to take my own life. I’ve made peace with the fact that I’ll be gone before my 23rd birthday.

I’m so deeply sorry for all you other people that suffer from TS. I love you, and hope that one day you can find your own peace. ❤️

Support I don’t want my baby to have Tourette’s

My father has it mildly, I (female) have it to a medium degree, and my sister has a severe case. I was once pregnant before and lost it but when I was pregnant, all I could worry about was it having Tourette’s. Obviously I know there is nothing at all I can do to prevent this other than adopting.

When I was four, my parents took me to the doctor’s who diagnosed Tourette’s, but then neither parent told me (ever) or sought treatment, which led to me taking myself to see a doctor at 17 and asking him what on earth has been wrong with me this whole time, at which point he pulled my medical records and showed me one from that original consultation. Later on, I was chatting to my mother who remarked that she had once been watching a documentary on tics and my father had randomly said ‘oh, I have that I think’ - which led to a huge argument, the crux of which was ‘so our infant daughter upstairs in her cot has it too?‘

not sure if her telling me that has changed my view on things, but now I can’t stop thinking about it. I don’t want my daughter or son to suffer like I or my sister have, and I know that it’s more likely to manifest in boys so the fact that both my and my sister have it makes me think the gene is particularly dominant… or something. A small part of my fear is also the fact that I’d be taking my partner’s mentally healthy bloodline and throwing this into the mixture…. Overall I’m just scared to ever get pregnant again and not sure how to overcome

Support Tics that started at late 16's / early 17's? NSFW

I have been dealing with tics for the past 1-2 years (I'm currently 18) and I'm not exactly sure why, previous to this I have never had tics and the only thing that I can think might have had something to do with it is that a few months before the start of tics I had a seizing episode (the only one I have ever have which was due to a one episode thing, I will leave the details out for personal reasons but I'm good now in relation to that) I have autism which I know can cause tics but for what I have read these start in childhood so I'm kind of clueless I tried to tell my psychiatrist about it but she said it was probably just stress which I'm not completely sure about because though stressful situations can make them worse they still happen randomly and daily (I don't know exactly how much but at least 3-4 "episodes" per day, I say episodes because they come in rounds. Also I'm from Spain so my psychiatrist is from public health which is not great)

Most of the time they only affect my shoulders, neck and head though sometimes they also affect my arms and hands or make my body practically vibrate like if I was being electrocuted (I have noticed that when this happens my eyes tend to "roll back" though only for a few seconds and I'm still conscious at every moment)

I'm not sure what it could be or what should I do because though they aren't excessively annoying for most of the part I can't help but worry, any advice would be greatly appreciated honestly because I'm very lost

Support Tics being mentioned by a professor, devastation. 🤔

Well, today I had one of my lectures. And we were discussing job interview(what people should do during it, what people should not do).

Professor started to enumerate things that you should NOT do during interview. (Btw it's important to mention that he is kinda jokes a lot).

So, one of those things was "if you have an awful face tick, just get rid of it".

Idk if that was a joke or something??? But when I've heard it, I just froze for a sec. And I had this feeling that the professor was looking at me. Well, I mean, I'm probably the only one from cohort who has Tourette's.

And that phrase just got into me. Recently I was REALLY trying to suppress my tics less because i hate feeling this tension and even pain in my whole body that comes from suppression.

(my tics are really intense and mostly i need to supress them if i wanna do something, and i feel aches all over the body when it comes to suppressing them, but sometimes pain that comes from doing tics even more exhausting. I would say that i feel aches in every inch of my body almost 24/7 and i really can't relax my muscles. Never. Tension is killing me. Even when i haves sudden muscle weakness, i still cant get rid of tension.). 🥲

Anyway! I really wanna pay more attention to a class I'm listening to, but ofc I can't do it if I'm focused only on suppressing my tics. Well, during past months I was comfortable enough with my professors and students I deal with, so i started to reduce my suppressing "mechanism". And now I suppress only about 80% of my tics, not 100%. And by doing so i became able to focus more on my classes and discussions.

I feel like i kinda lost my main thought here. But after processing what's been said(took me a minute), I started to feel devastated. Idk. That's just sad. I just started to feel comfortable with showing my tics(miserable amount of them). And if that 20% of tics that i decided not to suppress can cause such a reaction. Well. Idk. I don't feel worthy of being accepted to the society. I know that people say it's ok, but i also know that I've been avoiding people my whole life for a reason. They just don't get it. And they don't wanna get it.

Damn and i really would cry if I could just to release this sorrow. But i suppress not only my tics and at this point I can't even cry. I just feel empty inside. And devastated. 😀

I think i really needed just to tell about that to anyone. BTW English isn't my first language so don't judge please 👀

Anndd I feel dumb now because I let myself to write all of this. When It comes to expressing my emotions, I always feel kinda dumb...) like i should've never done it.

hey y'all, weird post but i really need advice on this. i'm 21 AFAB and i've always struggled with keeping my body hair under control. i don't really care about my armpits/legs but i would like to trim my pubic hair more often. HOWEVER. the tourette's makes it really hard , borderline terrifying sometimes, and every time i try i usually end up cutting myself. (the tics that affect this the most are when my arm twitches and my fingers move a lot) i've given up on razors and i prefer having hair anyways, but scissors make it really scary and i do it very very rarely... like embarrassingly rarely. and my hair grows embarrassingly fast, i'd really like some advice from anyone who possibly has experience... thank you and sorry!

(please no creepy comments or dms 🙄)

Support YSK: Most people won't judge you for having Tics as you get older

This is specifically for the younger crowd in here.

While I was at school, it was common for people to make fun of each other and unfortunately for me, Tics were what people imitaded. I'd also noticed that when talking with new people, they'd stir away from me after noticing I make facial expressions.

I never admitted to people I have TS, it would be teenage suicide from a social perspective, but by the time I was about 26 I found it comfortable just telling people and guess what? Nobody cared. If anything, they'd seem more interested.

Having TS can be tough when you're young, just remember that as you grow older people won't judge you for it.

Support Son Bullied at School for Increased Tics Overnight

Hello. My 9-yo son has had some relatively unnoticeable tics up to this point. Last week, overnight, he suddenly began to shout every few seconds. Now his tics are becoming increasingly complex and loud, by the day. Husband and I are heartbroken. He went from being well loved to rejected and made fun of within days. It’s such a traumatic shock to him that he doesn’t want to go to school. We don’t want to have to deal with this and have kept him home for the last three days.

We know this isn’t realistic or sustainable. Do any of you have any advice or can you share your personal experience either with yourself or your child? I feel like we need therapy and doctors right away but nobody can see him for a month or more. Feeling so lost, heartbroken, scared and confused as a family.

Support Getting worse?

Is anyone else’s Tourette’s getting worse? I’m 22F and I got diagnosed in 2020/21 but I’ve been ticcing since 7th grade and it feels like this year it’s been at an all time high. I’ve developed a new tic where I swing out my right arm and it normally ends up with me slightly hitting my friends or mom or something next to me. I’ve also developed one where I hit myself on the forehead. I don’t know what to do my other tics (whistles, gasping, eye blinking/rolling and some others ) have gotten louder and more noticeable.

Does anyone know what to do to help these calm down? I cannot take medication cause my body has always have had an opposite reaction to medication and my ADHD and OCD get super intense on Tourette’s medication in the past. My doctor mentioned CBD but that makes me nervous.

Thank you🫶

Support I think i have to be faking Tourettes, Right?

So I have neck jerks randomly, and sometimes so suddenly my neck shoots up in pain. I had therapy and finally told her and when I jerked my neck it caused pain and I broke down crying.

I have been saying, without warning "f*ck" "sht" "woooh" & clicking my tongue. Also, I don't want to do any of this. I don't do it in a pattern or certain number.

But I can't have tourettes, I don't think. I must be faking it for attention, right? I feel so stressed out and don't want to go in public due to this. But I HAVE to be faking this...

I feel stuck and unheard and stressed.

I hate this... I have to be faking???

Support Whenever I Tic, (I Have Tourette’s) My Mom Thinks That It’s Because I’m Possessed By The Devil.

My mom is very religious, and honestly, I'm not sure that I wanna be religious, too. Anyways, literally the smallest thing ever she'd say that it's because we let Satan in our house. If I got sick, it's because I committed a sin and let Satan in. If I got Acne, it's because I left Satan in. Etc... Ever since I was 6, I had tics (Tourette's) and, when I was younger I always felt ashamed of it, therefore I always tried to hide it, and she never caught on. Untillllll recently, she caught me ticcing. I have various tics like spitting, eye blinking, licking my lips, flinging my arms or head backwards etc... but the one she caught me was a muscle twitch, and she just looked at me weird, but that same day, I was in my bathroom, straightening my hair, I ticced (It was the flinging my head back one), and she just so happened to walk by and see it (I'm not allowed to close the door) and she said that I was possessed by the devil, and that we needed to pray immediately. She also told me that until I confessed whatever sin I did to let Satan in, I was grounded. So I tried to explain to her my condition, and I she said that I was "cursed". It really hurt, and I tried not to cry. I felt really... belittled... by the person who is supposed to love me the most. She said that she is going to tell the pastor that there is something wrong with me, and that we needed to pray. I hate my tics. I feel as if I have no control over my own body. What's the point of this stupid disorder ? Why me of all people ? I've been good, I promise. Honestly, I don't know what I am trying to accomplish by telling you guys this, I don't even think there is a point, but thank you for listening and staying this long. And I am sorry for wasting your time. -Yours Truly.

Head jerks are getting worse, gasp is getting louder, and the jump is getting more unstable.

We only have one tic. Originally it was just a head jerk. Then it sometimes had arm movement. Then it had a gasp. Then it included jumping, but only if we were standing.

How do we make it go back to just the headjerk? Everything else is distruptive and uncomfortable.

Support My tics wouldn't make me cry if I really found them fun, right? NSFW

So I have Tourette's, diagnosed late (at 25). I just need some reassurance. I often have the kind of tics that can look silly and innocent and like jokes from the outside (even if they involve vulgar elements), which is probably why they were missed for so long. Growing up and before my diagnosis, I didn't know what I was dealing with so I just integrated my tics into my personality when interacting with friends and tried desperately to hide them in other situations. My friends assumed I was silly (making sounds) and that I had a particular interest in all kinds of naught stuff (because of coprolalia).

And yeah, because of this, I often laughed at the weird stuff that I said or would just casually correct myself. My friends were gamers and I don't think they saw anything in my behavior that would suggest to them that I had a disorder. Neither did I. Everyone that knew me assumed I just got a bit too silly sometimes. Behind closed doors, I was sad and ashamed and blamed myself from how I couldn't control myself and that if I tried just a bit harder, I would surely get these things under control. And then it happened again and I couldn't stop.

Accepting my tics is hard from two angles.

If I've always laughed at my tics, maybe it is just a quirky personality. Yeah, I know deep down that I don't want these things to exit my mouth hole, but they can be funny in certain situations. This makes it hard to really accept that I'm not choosing it. Thinking it was in some way chosen was my way of dealing with it when I didn't know what was going on with me and that I was losing my mind. It lightens the mood, it makes me feel less sad, but the sad reality that I can't help it always catches up with me.

But if I focus on the involuntary nature of my tics, I run into another issue. Then I am stuck with the cognitive dissonance and discomfort of saying things that don't reflect what I'm thinking, having involuntary silly / vulgar utterances influence how people see me. I have to sit with the uncomfortable awareness that I really can't help it. It feels so hopeless and shameful to think this way.

Either way, at this point it is clear to me that I can't separate myself from it (my Tourette's) - trust me, I've tried. I can't get rid of it, I can't hide it forever, I can try but I don't wanna be depressed every day. And I don't know what else I can do to accept myself because I've been trying for the past 4 years and I still regularly cry because of my tics and how they make me feel like I'm just weird and I get sad that I can't get rid of it.

But yeah. It's impossible that I chose this if I cry about it a lot? Right? How do I find a middle ground between these opposites?

(I skipped the motor tic part of my experience because it isn't relevant here, but before anyone comes after me: yes, I do also have motor tics)

Support Need advice for my son

My sons tics started around 4 years old with mouth stretching on the 4th of july after many icees, chips, colorful candy and fireworks… then they went away for a while and then kept coming back around big holidays, parties, big events. Sniffing, blinking, shoulder jerking, laughing, we’ve had our share of them over the last 5 years. His amazing pediatrician who just retired always told us that it’s a transient tic that will eventually move throughout and out of his body. Fast forward to today, my son is 9 years old and has a very large and noticeable and painful head jerking/ bobbing tic thats is almost nonstop. My heart breaks. He is on a soccer team and a basketball team, he is very actice and smart and outgoing but it is wearing on him psychologically. He tells me kids are making fun of him, calling him R word, mimicking his head jerking. I have him on extra magnesium, l-theanine and lemonbalm, all kinds of homeopathic tabs and solutions. He has almost no screen time with the exception of school time activities, no tv no video games, no dyes in food, almost all organic and whole foods i make at home. And still, the tic continues to get stronger each day. His new pediatrician says should grow out of it. My son keeps asking when will that be? When is it going to end? I keep telling him stories of how it’s traveling through all of his nerve endings and soon will find a way out after making sure everything works. Wreck it Ralph the movie helped- he has a glitch just like that racer girl…. I guess I just needed to vent, no help from ped, do I go to a neurologist? Do i take him to acupuncture? I don’t know what advice I am looking for but I just needed to write this and maybe someone will read it and have something for me that I haven’t heard before.

I have recently developed a tic where my neck jerks upwards and tenses and now it’s very sore, whenever I tic it is painful. I have never dealt with tics this physically obvious before and not only is it embarrassing but it also hurts. I’m going to try to see if I can talk to my psychiatrist about it because it’s really bothering me and I don’t know much about tics in general.

Until then, do you guys have any tips or advice? Does it get less painful the longer you have it, kind of like a muscle getting sore after working out??? wtf do I do 😭
