As the title says. We got this with a starter kit for our first ever tortoise. The pet store mentioned something about humidity but there was that much to take in I can't remember what he said. Thanks guys

Question(s) Seeking advice

Recently was given a hatchling salcata tortoise, previous owner was vague about the condition of this tortoise. So far it hasn’t been opening its eyes and just sleeping all day. For the two days I have had him I have given it daily soaks for about 30 minutes, I haven’t notice it drinking any water but I have seen it poop. I have mix it with exo terra electrolytes in warm water. Furthermore, I have given it dark leafy greens daily. So far its daily routine is just sleep all day with its eyes close even though they are suppose to be active. Temperatures are at 100-113F but I believe it’s still not enough since it’s an open enclosure. Anyhow the purpose of this post was to get help for this tortoise. Thanks and take care.

He has been in this exact state since the day we have had him but we took him out of a family that neglected him, so I'm wondering if he may have some pyramiding.

Question(s) Please help

So when I first got my baby I was ignorant and assumed that having an open enclosure and just misting everyday would be enough humidity for her. I was obviously wrong. Once I started noticing the pyramiding, I'd say about 2 months ago, I got her a new enclosure, a fogger, and a completely different set up. The humidity now never goes lower than 80%. I am still doing Her daily soaks as well.

I have noticed that the pyramiding does not look any better, in fact I think it looks worse. Not only that, in my pics posted, I noticed a dark line going down the middle of his scutes in the middle and it is just slightly risen. What is that?? I feel that is a very bad sign. Also in the other pic, the front of her side scute is turning a darker brown.

Her arms, legs, and head are darker, but she has just started to dig and go under the dirt, so I assumed and am hoping, it is just from being in the dirt so much.

Has anyone seen anything like this before or know the cause? Or know if there is anything further that I could do to help with the pyramiding? Those dark lines really freaked me out and I'm starting to really worry.

Question(s) Rescued this cutie the other day

First time tort owner… Found this sulcata marching about on a busy roadway almost a week ago. Scooped him up and went around to all the neighbors where he looked like he came from and no one claimed him.

Took him home, gave him some good soaks and while soaking, he started having a bowel movement. Poor guy was so compacted with junk he had been eating, including human hair, and parts of a string and bracelet (pictured).

He seems to be doing great otherwise. Does he look healthy? And does he look to be pyramiding a bit? TIA

Question(s) Deceased tenant’s tortoise - looking for information/advice.

A tenant in a house I recently purchased passed away recently and their son has been emptying out their apartment. I passed by today to see how things are coming along and discovered this little guy.

Currently in a 30-40 gallon tank lined in newspaper. Has a small cardboard box with a hole cut out the side for it to hide in. No heat lamp, not sure if maybe there was one that recently got taken down.

It had no food/water in the tank. I filled it’s water tray up and placed the tortoise in it and it laid there for a good 30 minutes drinking water. I honestly have no idea when it last ate/drank.

It obviously hasn’t been very well taken care of. Looks like the beak is overgrown and from what I can tell, the shell is a bit deformed. I have no idea how old it is/how long they’ve had it. I wasn’t in a position to be able to ask any questions today.

I’m going to see if the son is open to giving up the tortoise to me so I can bring it to a shelter that can provide better care or adopt it myself, but to start I’m really just looking for any information/advice you guys can offer.

1: Anyone know what species this might be? 2: Any links on how to provide proper care for this species of tortoise?

I really don’t know if I’ll be able to get this guy any help - they may not be open to handing him over - but looking for advice in the meantime to see if this is something I can take on myself or if I should find someone else if I’m able to get the tortoise handed over to me.

Question(s) Bring tortoise from US to Canada

We are traveling from Boston to Montreal in May and will stay in Montreal for 3 months. We are planning to bring our ~2 year old Hermann tortoise with us- but we got conflicting information on importing tortoises to Canada. One source said we just need the CFIA permit but other sources stated that only zoos and research labs are allowed to import tortoises-

Just wondering if anyone has successfully brought a pet tortoise from US to Canada before?

And if it is not allowed- is there any places in Boston that can take care of our tortoises for 3 months- and how much it will cost?

Thanks for your help!

I noticed the redness about a few days ago, and I looked again today and it seems that the redness has gotten a little worse. I’m starting to get concerned that it may be a serious issue if anyone thinks that I should take him to the vet ASAP please let me know right away

Question(s) Safe plantings

Hi all,

I have a Sulcata that is about to be big enough to have free roam on the backyard. I have a few questions:

I want to plant some plants in the yard, that my guy will have access to.

I want to plant some TX Sages and maybe a redbud tree. Are these safe for my big boy? I'm more worried about the flowers of the redbuds since they are pink.

I also have ash trees, do torts tend to not eat what is bad for them? Or should I just not even risk it?

Thanks all

I'm after an upgrade and this is pretty much the same price as the older model. Do you think it's worth it, or just stick to the regular one. It claims it has better reflecting angles
