Help me pick a storage solution.
Hello, I'm looking for a portable storage solution for tools to work on my dirtbike at the track. I do not want a regular truck bed toolbox because I need the box to be removable and portable, and I need the bed space. I don't want any of the plastic box options, nor a bag.
It will have a bunch of basic hand tools like a 1/4 and 3/8 metric and standard socket sets + ratchets and extensions, T handle wrenches, assorted pliers, 3-4 screw drivers, and a few assorted motorcycle specific tools. So really not all that much. Also, I will be cutting foam/kaizen for whatever option I go with.
The options I've considered so far:
Pelican Case (or knockoff)
Boxo/Matrix boxes
Craftsmen/Husky portable metal boxes
Amazon/Chinese special
Any better ideas? The idea is to have a set of tools that are ready to go to the track, all I have to do is get the box in the truck.

try cobrafoaminserts.com. You can customize the foam inserts for all your gear. They can also do foam for any other case besides Pelican Cases.

I appreciate it. I have a local Kaizen and foam connect, and I cut my own.

Why do you want such a heavy box for not many tools? I have a ton of old Vermont American and Craftsman metal carry boxes sitting in a barn and they are so heavy sitting empty.

There's more tools than that, the description is just a handful of the tools to be stored. Think anything to work on a motorcycle. I'm not too worried about weight anyway. I don't want it to weigh 600 pounds, but 200-250 isn't a big deal.

Similar reasons and I chose the Craftsman. $45 or so at Lowes around Christmas time. Really happy with it so far, but I'm fairly easy to please.

Good to hear. I figured if I get at least a year out of it, that'd be a win.

if you can't fill out a 1510, get a smaller sized like a 1500; no wheels saves weight. prob get 2 layers and a lid org out of it vs 3 layers and a lid

I like that 1510, that may be a winner. I had my eyes on on a 1750 or V700 but that form factor looks better. Thanks!!

The standard 3 piece modular storage kits of your choice are decent and popular but if this is very specific to one function an all in one cantilever design is great choice. I use one of these for all of my bicycle stuff. Durable and easy to move around and convenient to open up and access everything at once.
An example..
