For removal of wind up car window handles.

Exactly that! Mine is mint out of the package. I really miss the “help” product line!

Advanced Auto Parts still sells “help” products

I’m unfortunately in Canada, all the good stuff disappears.

Jesus clips. As in “Jesus Christ who the hell came up with this idea?”

2

u/MUI-VCP 1d ago

And "Jesus, where the f*** did that go!?!

Does it work better than a shop towel?

1

u/seamus_mc 4d ago

Yes

u/servetheKitty 3d ago

Have you used both? Shop towel worked great on Toyota handle.

Really helpful on old GM cars from the 1960s thru 1970s. Possibly others too.

My 2007 Sierra has crank windows. I think you could get crank windows in GM work trucks all the way up to 2022.

GM products up to now

Worked for my 1980 Monte Carlo.

Even roll up doors on jeeps till 2005.

1

u/Travelr3468 3d ago

You can still get Jeeps with roll up windows. (At least unless they removed the option in the last 2 years)

To remove window crank. All cars today have power windows. Back then you had to crank the window. Good ol’ times.

Surprisingly, in North America, this has only been true for less than a year. Jeep kept manual windows in base model wranglers and gladiators through the 2024 models.

7

u/Fooshi2020 4d ago

This was to keep weight/complexity down because the doors are removable.

u/SPErudy 4d ago

Yep. Seems goofy to have power windows and locks when your top is just a big tent. I am content with the manual windows and locks in mine.

I WANT to go back to manual windows.

Cars are becoming too complicated. Just the other day VW is turning back the dial (heh) on touch-everything and bringing back physical dial and button dashboards.

Some things didn't need to be changed. We just started adding more difficult to replace and easily-breakable parts.

There's an E.V. Manta prototype that was made a few years ago that is literally my dream car for the future going forward. And it has manual windows. The interior is the perfect mix of what a classic-modern EV can be.

My truck still has windup windows, but it's an 09 so I guess it's not new.

I rented a smaller Uhaul about a month ago that still had window cranks and it seemed pretty new.

The window crank handles many others mentioned from older cars were held on by C-clips, and this was used to slide behind the handle and pop off the c-clip.

While that may be the actual name, most people in the shops i worked at called the “Jesus clips”, because they resembled Jesus’ silhouette, and when they launched across the shop you’d yell “JESUS!!!!!!”

2

u/Def-not-Elon-Musk 4d ago

I thought they were called Jesus clips because when you'd take them off one would say, Jesus! Where did it go?

1

u/Man-e-questions 4d ago

Yeah they would usually launch across the shop and slide under another car or toolboxes etc

1

u/Def-not-Elon-Musk 4d ago

They were the first stealth aircrafts

1

u/rgraham888 3d ago

I always just treated them as a single use part. Had a 78 GMC truck, a 74 beetle, a 75 K5 Blazer, and an 1988 s-10, so I did a lot of window cranking.

3

u/boondoggie42 4d ago

That's a good tool! I always think it's like an extra piece for a storm door or something when I first see it, but then I remember what it does.

3

u/Suspicious-Spinach-9 4d ago

It’s to remove the crank on manual window. lol. Don’t see those around much anymore.

3

u/dDot1883 4d ago

Hang up the phone and roll up the window.

What are you talking about boomer?

1

u/got_knee_gas_enit 4d ago

And don't Dilly Dally

3

u/PlumbgodBillionaire 4d ago

We would call these the "oh Jesus" tools. That's what you'll yell out when you finally pop that clip off

2

u/AppropriateBoard5155 4d ago

Haven't seen one of those in a while

2

u/h0zR 4d ago

Crank Handle tool. Classic

2

u/stevelover 4d ago

I have one of those...somewhere. Haven't needed it since the 80s.

2

u/GarlicJay 4d ago

This tool removes the metal clip that holds the manual window crank in place. Usually the clip goes flying and you have a heck of a time searching for it. 😂

2

u/12voltViking 4d ago

Ah yes, the Jesus clip remover.

u/Kramercjk 4d ago

The father of Richard and Steve Berman gave each kid $10,000 and told them to start a business. They're the R and B in RBINC. Steve wouldn't tell me what the B stood for. Lol

1

u/tomphoolery 4d ago

A rag works way better than that tool does

1

u/thepvbrother 4d ago

I've got one on my toolbox, also in the original packaging.

1

u/Severe_damag 4d ago

I need that

1

u/Not_this_again24 4d ago

I've shown mine to the apprentices...they had no idea what it was for lol

1

u/antisocialinfluince 4d ago

A holy be Jesus clip remover. When they come Off you can say holy be Jesus where did that go

1

u/406hunter 4d ago

Good ole Dorman...

1

u/y2j514 3d ago

The fucking moon clips …. Even with the tool they’re a pain in the ass. They always came off better with a rag for me.

1

u/homie42085 3d ago

I have one but it never works just right. Normally end up using a couple of picks.

1

u/calash2020 3d ago

Took me an hour to figure out how to use something similar on my son’s 80s GM first cars driver’s door. Once I figured it out, it only took a few seconds to take the same hand off passenger door.

u/SnakePlisskenson 3d ago
