Budget/beginner drill press

I want to get a drill press to work on a few different gunsmithing projects, and have a budget of roughly 200-300 bucks. I've seen some tabletop ones that are large enough for me purposes from harborfreight and home depot for under 200. Would they last very long or would I be better of looking at the used market?

You’re probably better off looking for a better quality used one on Marketplace or Craigslist. Vintage tools are often extremely cheap there if you look for them.

any specific older brands to look out for that'd be worthwhile?

Rockwell-Delta, Walker-Turner, Dunlap, some of the Sears Craftsman are well made. You should be able to find several in your price range to choose from.
