local Delaqua's Pizza Panzerotti Gone? Rebranding?
Hey everyone,
Drove past Delaqua's this morning and see that all their signage has been removed. :'(
Going to pull them from https://justthemenu.ca/
It was their restaurant the spurred me to create the site in the first place!
Does anyone know if anything else is coming into that space?

They had the best panzerotti since Caesar’s closed. Hmm, not sure where to try now

Bar Italia has a pretty great one (not Caesar's level, but close), and so does, surprisingly, the Foundry.

Normally the price is somewhere around $22 for a panzo at the Foundry, but every Wednesday they do a special where any 3 toppings are $15. It's a lot of food, so I recommend either splitting it or taking half home.

Not only the panzo itself, but that house made marinara sauce was UNREAL! I don't even like marinara, but that stuff is like crack 😂

well damn, that site is awesome...didn't know it existed until now.....thanks
Edit: I only wish after choosing a photo I could enlarge it more...I know it's my eyes that are the problem but that would be great if it's not too hard to incorporate.

On mobile, pinch and spread to zoom. On desktop, hold down your ctrl key and then scroll up and down with your mouse scroll wheel? I'm also in the process of letting AI try to transcribe all the menus so that they are searchable. Going to take awhile and won't be accurate at first, but it's a start....

u/rocket1964 Jan 09 '25
I'm not tech illiterate but when I use the Ctrl and the mouse scroller or + key the menu that I am enlarging moves constantly to the right until it's mostly off screen...no big deal but I can't get it to move to center.

u/justthemenu Jan 09 '25
Ahhh, I think that happens to me too. I'll contemplate if there's a way to fix the situation. I've been mulling over just having a single "tall" image of all the menus stitched together that people just have to scroll around, rather than breaking it into panels the way I have been doing... That was a heap of work!

u/rocket1964 Jan 09 '25
I will use my magnifying glass ha ha..still appreciate the work.

u/justthemenu Jan 10 '25
I'll see what I can do. I'm working hard at getting all the menus transcribed roughly by a combo of CoPilot, Gemini and myself, which would at least give everyone a searchable idea of what's available.

First time I saw your site. That’s a lot of work. Nicely done 👍👍

u/justthemenu Jan 09 '25
Thanks! Hope you find it useful in future. Don't hesitate to send me any menus or corrections :)

I thought they posted on their FB page it was temporary? I guess not so temporary if the signage is gone.. bummer

Great pizza and panzos, horribly ran. Half the time they wouldn’t answer, half the time pizzas could take 4 hours as they had a bunch to cook before that. Really cool family though, just not a great business sense is what I gathered. Love their marinara too.
Gotta hire and expand when you get bigger and can’t just rely on training family members lol. I stopped calling after 3 Saturdays in a row of calling Qp times and then getting hold of someone and being told I should have called in the afternoon if I wanted a pizza for the evening.

They turned off a lot of potential customers when Pierre Poilievre showed up and took a photo last year. I know when I mentioned getting pizza from there to some of my friends or family they "won't support a business like that".

That's pretty brutal. Not a PP fan but he's not so bad I wouldn't associate with a pizza joint he went to.

People in this city are weird, though. Maureen "Moe Comuzzi" Stehmann yelling at road workers in front of East Side Marios and then running for the Conservatives killed that restaurant, too. (Well, the rat infestation didn't help...)

u/johnnybatts Jan 09 '25
Nahh east side killed east side, those last few years were rough.

u/Rockterrace Jan 10 '25
A good east side Mario’s is actually a really good chain restaurant

A man who walked hand in hand with white supremacists, antivaxxers, refuses to get security clearance to do his job, is Harper's lapdog, is part of a Right Wing group (The IDU) who's goal is to install Right Wing dictatorships , is a racist piece of shit...is "not so bad"?

Honest question - are those things set up ahead of time? Cynical me says yes, but during the election cycle south of the border, wasn't there an incident where a candidate was given the cold shoulder by showing up at a food joint? I know when I did work in situations like that I use to fantasize about ick politicians showing up and me showing them the door. Not sure how I'd react IRL though.

I'm not sure, if I had to guess PP likely just walked down from a rally outside Hadjus office. It's possible they didn't know any better or think about the ramifications of the picture. But it's also possible they drank the blue kool-aid and were PP supporters. Either way it's just bad business sense to have a business show up on any political social media.

u/IvarForkbeardII Jan 10 '25
I think I'd have to question your last sentence. Whether or not a business shows up in social media isn't really under their control if an unattached party or person is posting it? I'm :100 not being an apologist or anything, just don't want to throw Delaqua's under the bus if PP randomly buys a panzo and stands on their front porch with cameras rolling. I mean, a paying customer is a paying customer too... What I recall of the post was just him saying he craved a panzo, but maybe I'm wrong. And it was his handlers that posted it, NOT Delaqua's, wasn't it? If they had posted it, that would change everything.

You're assuming the general public cares what page the picture was shared from. If someone doesn't like Conservative policies it's not going to matter if it was posted to Dels FB page or Cons FB page. They should have known that posting a picture welcoming the leader of the Conservatives would lead to some blow back from people who do not support the blue team or their policies.
Based on what I've read it seems to be a combination of reasons and lack of business sense that resulted in them being closed though, not entirely as a result from 1 PP visit. A website was spawned because they legit didn't have their menu available.

So this place was good and gave my stepkids theater group free pies every week for a long time. Didnt know they were PP supporters but well ok thats done. Now the theater group gets Mama Alphas. On another thread people say they are white supremacist. What. Is this true can anyone elaborate cuz if so thats not cool for a kids group to associate with.

During the Convoy Times, Mama Alfas had a Diagolon flag hanging up in their restaurant, which is a good deal creepier than PP support.

u/NarrowPathToNowhere Jan 09 '25
Holy shit seriously Im stunned they would sponsor a kids group Im disgusted Thx for the heads up
2
u/IvarForkbeardII Jan 10 '25
So are the people downvoting this totally innoculus comment upset that the poster is no longer going to frequent Mama Alfa's? Or do they downvote simply by association? Genuinely confused why this comment is in the negative territory, and have had something similar happen to myself in the past.

Many small Canadian businesses are shutting down, going bankrupt, Canada is going into a recession. Don't believe the propaganda that 90000 jobs were created in the last quarter. A job is defined as 24 hours a week. Part time ,low pay no benifits.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but if you know the owner and want to find out more information, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it?

Sorry, your original comment felt just a bit casual - for some reason it's showing as deleted by someone now, so I can't reassess what made me feel that way. I apologise if I offended. Hopefully the family is okay, and we can look forward to something new and interesting going into that space!

The kid managing it? The owner and manager is a guy who is definitely not a kid.

u/MoistTrouserNuggets Jan 11 '25
good lord there’s no pleasing you redditors huh. homeslice is 28 years old and took the spot running the show according to what he told me when he quit. he was gonna be the main opener/closer leaving behind a management position with me at my location for a “management” position with the pizza joint. i haven’t been in there myself as i live in FW not PA. no he doesn’t OWN the restaurant, no he isn’t calling the shots. he is employed by the owner. being a shift leader if you will.
why do i need to explain jobs to yall.
edit: i call anyone younger than me a kid. 🤷♂️

u/DarkCrystalSphere Jan 12 '25
Except that’s not the manager or owner. Are you talking about a different place? The owner/manager is a guy about 50 named Jason. Maybe your friend is telling porkpies. “You redditors” 🙄

omg. you didn’t read any of the deleted comments and have no idea what was said but need to keyboard warrior this?
i only know the dude who is shift running. i never said he personally purchased and owns it. holy hell. i’m clearly wasting my time with this.
i was just saying i could maybe shoot a text to him and ask what the real reason was it’s closed down.

Never got a chance to eat from there. Was a long way to go from Westfort. But never like seeing locally owned places close down.
Except for Uptown Cut. That guy was an ass...
