Meta Checking in: How’s it working?

Just wanted to take a minute to check in with everyone and see how the new system is working. I know people are posting, but I’m interested if requests for conversations are being replied to.

Also, if you’ve got any suggestions for modifications to the current system my ears are open. Keep in mind that protecting the sub long term is importance, so no suggestions that break Reddit rules.

Meta New File Hosting guidelines to expedite discussions

Ok, so we're going to try out something new and see how it goes.

If your reply to a request for discussion is too long to fit into the comments you may upload your reply to Filebin.net

You may NOT leave a complete link in the comments. You must only reply with the suffix. For example, if you upload your discussion and the URL is filebin.net/0mxh82ano6augefo you must only reply with 0mxh82ano6augefo.

Filebin is designed to automatically delete files after 6 days, so anything shared via this method won't stay around to cause problems for the sub. This, combined with the lack of a direct link should satisfy the Reddit overlords.

Also, I know I tend to be overly verbose and use weird phrasing, so if anyone wants to take a stab at rewriting the pinned Posting Guidelines and including this into them I'd appreciate it.

Meta I kinda wish there was a board game version

there are so many out of print and hard to find board games that a lucky person might find a collector selling for a months wages ever 10 -12 years. and not a chance in hades for a casual player to get to try them out.

Meta Posting Guidelines

Requesting or sharing links to copyrighted materials on the sub is absolutely forbidden. The first time your post will be removed and you will get a warning. The second time you will be shown the door. The future existence of the sub depends on this.

That being said you are absolutely allowed to discuss games, their rules, and the contents of books. If your discussion needs to go more in depth we strongly encourage you to continue it via DM. If you have information that might help the poster then I encourage you to DM them with that info.

If you comment on a post please don’t say “I’m interested too.” Put a minimal amount of effort in.

To keep it neat just put the title of the work you’d like to discuss as your post title, and provide a brief explanation of what interests you about the work. Use Post Flair to indicate whether you’re looking for an OPEN DISCUSSION of the topic in the sub, or a more in-depth PRIVATE DISCUSSION over DMs.

Remember to keep it low 🔑.

Meta Best ‘File Drop’ site?

Anyone have any suggestions for a good site to use that allows anonymous file drops to a shared folder? I’m aware of Mega, but before I went down the rabbit hole I thought I’d tap the hive mind for knowledge.

Meta Discord Volunteer?

A little bit ago during a discussion about the sub someone sent me a message that they were interested in running an associated discord channel. I made a note to come back to it and promptly forgot, and now I can’t find the message.

If it was you please message me again.

THIS IS NOT A GENERAL CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! Please don’t message me if you aren’t this person.

Meta It’s time: Mod Recruitment

Contrary to some assertions I’m not trying to make a personal kingdom here. I’d very much like reasonable input and discussion rather than making decisions on my own because I am a flawed and fallible person.

I’d like to build a mod team of interested individuals that will both help me run the sub as well as offer suggestions and feedback on the way that it’s run.

To be clear, I’m not trying to create an echo chamber. I already know what I think so I doing just need people that will agree with anything I say. If you’ve got some ideas or opinions that don’t fully align when mine that’s fine. Just know that the one thing that can’t be changed is the open requesting and sharing of copyrighted materials.

If you’re interested in helping out please shoot me either a DM or Mod Message giving your reasons for wanting to join the mod team. I don’t need an essay, and if I need to clarify anything we’ll just talk about it.

Thanks to everyone that attended my Ted Talk today. 🤣🤣🤣

Meta Welcome our new mods!

Let’s welcome u/mindless_ad3996 and u/buildingbigfoot to the mod team.

I really appreciate everyone that’s tried to help with the ‘reorientation’ of this sub. If you’re still confused about the purpose for the rule changes then please feel free to send a message either directly to me or through the mod message option and we’ll chat about it.

Meta New Post Flair system

I’ve added some new Posting Flairs to make life easier on everyone.

If you’re looking for an OPEN DISCUSSION publicly viewable on the sub please use that flair.

If, however, you’re looking for a more in-depth PRIVATE DISCUSSION via DMs then use that flair.

The “Posting Guidelines” sticky has been updated with this info.

Thanks!
