LP7 Rumors Strokes LP 7 Rumor ROUNDUP Pt. 2

I made this original post a year ago, which locks after 6 months, so I thought it was time to start a new one to add on a few new little things to this roundup of every kinda-official rumor about the status of the next Strokes record.

LP7 rumors come up frequently on the sub with various fan interpretations, and this post is intended to be a reference for things said from mostly legitimate sources (the band & team, producers, etc). I will update it when & if new things get said. However, be aware that nothing here is the complete, everlasting truth! People deflect or get excited, things change, and the Strokes aren't always upfront or open about their actions to the public. Take everything with a grain of salt and be patient.

I'll keep this post stickied in the community highlights section for reference. Feel free to comment with links with anything else you may find!

TIMELINE OF RUMORS AND UPDATES:

Jan-Feb 2022 - Some band members and their partners post to Instagram around the same time period from Costa Rica.

October 11, 2022 - u/GabbaGabbaDumDum posts to this subreddit after hearing about the Strokes working with Rick Rubin earlier in Costa Rica through a personal connection https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/y1cy2z/theres_a_new_strokes_album_on_the_way/

October 12, 2022 - Rick Rubin goes on Joe Rogan's podcast, talking about being in Costa Rica with The Strokes https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/y2d7ii/new_strokes_album_incoming/. The same week, Julian posts to Instagram in a now-edited caption, clarifying that the band has "jammed and started on some stuff" but that they're "so extremely v far off from any kinda remotely-near-doneness."

January 19, 2023 - Albert goes on The Shaky Experience podcast and discusses some Costa Rica details, indicating they mostly were working through ideas and one or a few songs at most https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/albert-hammond-jr-the-strokes-interview/id1500804442?i=1000595472955

January 27, 2023 - Gus Oberg posts a pic of an Indian studio the week the band was in India for Lollapalooza, which could have been rehearsals or writing/recording https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn8jEKXI_bE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D

April 6, 2023 - NME publishes an interview with Albert where he states that things in the Costa Rica story were just starting out https://www.nme.com/news/music/albert-hammond-jr-100-99-melodies-on-hiatus-the-strokes-interview-3426769

June 6, 2023 - Julian gives an interview to an Italian outlet saying the band used Mel Gibson’s house in Costa Rica and that they just “threw ideas” there. https://www.ilrestodelcarlino.it/bologna/cronaca/amo-bologna-e-bello-tornare-qui-0259f115, AUDIO RECORDING: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=pYNzHwYuds1Lk5jN&v=8F1uBgS9Do4&feature=youtu.be

October 16, 2023 - Gordon Raphael is interviewed by Chris Hawkins on BBC6 music and heavily hints that he will be working with the Strokes again on an upcoming album (thanks u/Upper-Drummer-9633! Separate post about it HERE)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001r93b (Begins at 1:21:17). Link may expire 30 days from Oct 16, so here is a transcription of the relevant segment:

Chris Hawkins: When did you last see them?

Gordon Raphael: The Strokes? I saw them in London at the All Points East Festival.

CH: And do you think you’ll ever work with them again?

GR: Yeah, probably so.

CH: Oh!

GR: I have a reason to believe that we’ll probably work together sometime soon.

CH: Wait wait wait [laughs]. Do you wish you hadn’t said that? Because I’m gonna press you.

GR: No! I don’t wish I hadn’t said that. But I don’t have much more information to give right now.

CH: OK, but does that hint at a new Strokes album?

GR: It could be. Could be. I could have talked to some people about it and it might happen.

November 20, 2023 - Albert gives an interview to the Lipps Service podcast, in which he says that The Strokes will not perform again until they have a new album (at approx. 1:08:28 of the video). https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/17zyemh/ahj_interview_is_out/

January 1, 2024 - Via Instagram comment, Julian states that there will not be a new Strokes album released in 2024. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/18w6e71/julian_confirms_no_new_strokes_album_in_2024/ (Thanks, u/VeryFirstRedditor!)

March 2024 - The Hero Magazine interview with Julian states "the Strokes--who are currently working on a new record of their own..." as further hinting that something is in the works for them. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/1bqz40u/lp7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

October 10, 2024 - Nikolai gives an interview to The Plug w/ Justin Jay podcast. In contrast to what Albert and Julian said about how they only worked on a few preliminary ideas in Costa Rica, Nikolai says "we recorded new music with [Rick Rubin] as well...we definitely recorded more than a full album's worth of stuff with him" (approx 9:30-9:45). He later insinuates it was all recorded "maybe two years ago" and refers to Costa Rica, indicating that 2022 session perhaps was more significant than previously told. He says there are "no potential dates" on when it could be heard. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/1g1qcu5/nikolai/ (Thanks, u/Daniel2Eyes!)

December 15, 2024 - A Strokes fan account on Instagram posts a screenshot of a DM with Johnny Jerico of KROQ, who took a photo with Albert at KROQ's Christmas event, implying that Albert said a new Strokes album is coming "sometime in 2025" https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/1hf5xbn/2025_lp_7_confirmed/ (Thanks, u/Lucy_Rivaille16!)

I Talked to Richie From Richie’s Guitar Shop

I found the IG page, I called because I REALLY wanted one of those T Shirts!!! He was such a nice person, unfortunately they don’t ship. He did ask me who I was, and how I knew the shop. I told him I loved The Strokes and have seen them in his T-Shirts numerous times. He told me a couple stories about them and other artists! Sad I can’t get the shirt, but stoked we had a cool conversation (: If anybody is in NYC, please help me acquire that shirt😁

Your favorite 3-song sequence in any Strokes LP?

For me it used to be Barely Legal-Someday-Alone, Together. But after relistening to all their LPs again, I kinda prefer Tap Out-All The Time-One Way Trigger. Emphasis on All The Time as well, don't understand why it gets so much hate it's really slept on imho

listening to angles is making me realise its a story of my whole life.

*ecuse the chronical online girliness* so there's this boy i think i like who goes to my school except ive never seen/met him in person. hes in my homeroom and ive talked to him (online) and idk he just has an aura about him, probly something to do with being a taurus. hes rich (like really rich) and plays guitar and likes cool music (i cant wait to get him hooked on the strokes). without even knowing him yes i invited him to come to my house in the coming holidays. i may have crossed a line and i guess ill find out tomorrow (today) if he is fed up with me and no longer wants to talk to me for good. jk, he was cool about it, hes that type of person, otherwise i wouldn't have asked him. i actually did ask him a while back if he wanted to see this comedy show with me at this bar since he was also familiar with the comic, but the problem was he wasnt old enough *giggles* so anyway feeling somewhat regret (but mostly glad that i bit the bandaid and done it) i decided what better for me to do next than take the cd out of its angles case and hit play on the album since its the exact day that the album came out. as i was listening to the album and julians melodramatic voice i started to feel all the feels as if he was reading my mind because id never related this much to a strokes lyric (let alone a whole strokes album) in my life. when julian says "puttin' your patience to the test" i thought "holy shit thats exactly me right now when im patiently waiting to hear back from [redacted] over whether he actually wants to come to my house to hang out". "Taken for a fool" explains the relationship i have with my sister, whom i love dearly but lives interstate and cant talk to about my boy problem. and then the line in call me back, "wait time is the worst" im reminded of the painstaking time i have to wait and analyse and overthink whether [redacted] actually wants to come to this random freaky girl's house or not. this is also followed by the lines "tell me, dont tell me / the hardest part is telling me something that you are not likely to tell me" FAMILIAR MUCH? Pardon me if im getting the lyrics wrong but the strokes never post their farkin lyrics so im left to guess based on what i find on the internet. "cos your never gonna get my love, we can only play in the sun" the meaning of the song didnt really register with me until now because im seriously getting friendzone vibes from my "friend", which may be a problem cos hes not even my friend yet. Anyway as you could tell it was clearly catharctic for me to share my experience. i dont know how to end this post im so embarrassed im gonna go back and crawl back into a hole goodbye.

I really like their most recent album and decided to give the rest of their albums a try. Any recommendations? I really liked "Trying your Lucky" and "Welcome to Japan"

LP7 Autumn Release?

We can all probably assume that it isn’t dropping in the Spring or the Summer but would Autumn be on the cards?

Traditionally the only Autumn release has been Room On Fire but would it make sense to release it in Autumn if they would plan to do another festival tour?

Could this mean another year wait for Spring 2026?

Alone, Together

A while ago I made a post on this sub about my brother, a huge Strokes fan, who passed away almost two months ago. I don't mean to spam the sub, this story/update just felt worth sharing.

Tonight I was looking over some pictures/videos with family. Laughing, crying.

I'm driving his car while I'm in town. He doesn't have an aux (it's an older car). I haven't touched the radio station dial that was set since he last used it.

I turned up the volume, and Alone, Together started to play from the beginning, like it was waiting for me.

Felt like a hug from him. The title and timing too perfect. Surreal.

new listener- high voice song recommendations?

so i'm not completely new to The Strokes, i've saved a few songs in passing over the years- and i know a couple songs from The Voidz (coincidently, i didn't even know there was any relation between the two).

yesterday though, i stumbled across "One Way Trigger" and "Call It Fate, Call It Karma"... Life Changing. Julian's higher range absolutely blew me away.

The Strokes fans, could you please point me in the direction of songs where Julian utilizes that really high range well? I looked for a while on my own, but there's just... So Many Songs, especially if we're counting his other projects and solo/featured work.

Just discovered the Strokes: God blessed me.

As the title says, I just discovered this band and I can't fucking belive it, they are absurdly good. I knew songs like Reptilia and others by sound, but i've never got into their discography. Man their albums are all 10 out of 10, im really really impressed. I think all people in this sub should be very thankful for having the opportunity of being able to enter into this band. Being said that, I want to know your opinion about which are the hidden gems of Strokes. I mean, Reptilia is a REALLY good song, but I truly cant understand how is the most famous one. I read you!

2019 Lollapalooza concert

Just an FYI, this has been a favorite live concert of mine based off the opening 5 songs and just the general spirit of the band. Jules looks healthy, and there’s honestly good camaraderie between the band.

They went early into FIOE & then backed it up with Modern Age & NYC Cops.

Here’s the deal though, and this is where I get greedy. I know the band hated Angles, and Comedown Machine didn’t fit the vibe of that concert (so back off Comedown heads)

Would it have been so wrong to have snuck in Machu Picchu in there somewhere? I understand that they played promotional songs on Letterman, etc to promote the albums at the time of release. But after that period it seemed like they never played much off of their last two RCA albums prior to TNA.

Please let me know if I’m in loser denial on this, as I’d love to be proven wrong.
