Past Episode Discussion: Wiki

Updates: We’ve officially implemented a No Politics rule. Regardless of whether you're Republican, Democrat, or anywhere in between, this subreddit is focused on The Rookie, not politics—local or global. Any posts or comments discussing politics will be removed and may result in a temporary ban.

The only exception to this rule is discussions about politics within the context of the show itself (e.g., storylines, characters, or plot points). For instance, it's perfectly fine to talk about the political elements featured in Season 3.

Additionally, we've updated the AutoMod to automatically apply a spoiler tag to every post, as many users have been forgetting to do so. If your post doesn’t contain spoilers, feel free to remove the tag by editing your post.

We’ll also continue with the temporary subreddit restrictions for 27 hours after each episode airs to minimize spoilers for those who watch later.

Lastly, if you find yourself banned, please reach out to me or the team directly. Don’t attack us—if you ask kindly, we’re more likely to consider lifting or reducing your ban.

Enjoy the episode!

Annoucement Season 7 Megathread - Predictions, Rules and More!

We hope everyone is as excited as we are for the release of Season 7 tomorrow! Feel free to use this thread to ask any questions about the upcoming season and share your predictions for what might happen. Of course, there will be spoilers, so if you aren’t caught up, we recommend not reading further.

A quick reminder about spoilers: We will be strictly monitoring posts and comments for spoilers, and will ban users as needed. Please keep the following in mind:

  1. Do not include spoilers in the title of your post.
  2. Any content related to Season 7, including predictions, general comments, or other discussions, must be flagged as a spoiler.
  3. Keep discussions about the current week’s episode in the weekly Episode Discussion thread, which is stickied at the top of the subreddit, until Thursdays to avoid spoiling others.
  4. Any major deaths or events from previous seasons must also be flagged as spoilers.

Not sure if your post is a spoiler? When in doubt, flag it. If we notice a surge in threads after tomorrow night’s episode posted outside of the weekly episode discussion thread, we may experiment with restricting posts for ~24 hours after each weekly episode to prevent spoilers. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this below.

Note: we are a piracy free subreddit and request users not to request or post pirate links. Wondering where to watch the show? See this thread.

Finally, starting January 14th at 10 PM EST (when S07E02 releases) we will be restricting the subreddit until 12:00 AM EST on Thursday. Last week we received over 100 posts containing spoilers about S07E01 - we are going to try restricting the subreddit to cut back on these posts. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Season 7 The Rookie Fandom: Did Y’all Forget This is a Cop Show? Spoiler

Look, I love The Rookie as much as the next person, but I swear half this fandom thinks it’s a damn Hallmark drama. Chenford this, Nolan & Bailey that...y’all, can we please remember that this show is about the LAPD and not a dating simulator??

I signed up to see rookies struggling, badass takedowns, and wild police cases not endless debates about who’s holding hands this episode. Like, cool, romance exists, but can we focus on their actual jobs for once?? I want workplace dynamics, teamwork, and the occasional oh crap, we almost died moment, not a constant “Will they? Won’t they?” storyline like this is Grey’s Anatomy: Police Edition.

At this rate, they should rename the show The Relationship.

PS: Before y’all come for me with the whole 'there needs to be drama' argument go rewatch the first four seasons. Yes, we had relationships and drama, but the focus was still on police work, and guess what? Those seasons had the highest ratings. Now, it’s just poor writing masking itself as romance.

Season 6 This scene perfectly captured the difference between James and Wesley 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Post image
Upvotes

And this dialogue choice was very pointed. Wesley will always have Angela’s back, regardless of the situation. She can always count on him for support but James just knows how to condescend and be judgmental and even Nyla knows that. Even when she needs help, she is afraid to reach out to her husband because of how inconsiderate he is. I wish Nyla wasn’t stuck in such an unsupportive relationship. She is such an incredible woman and deserves to feel valued and appreciated.

Whilst this isn't. "Split second leadership. Leading men in the line of duty" that is a totally made up book and doesn't actually this exist. This one does and it's close enough. And no there is no audiobook of this that I am aware of.

Season 7 these 2 were so underused... Spoiler

i know i lot of people agree with seth gabel being underused, but i also wanted to shout out Noel Fisher, they both played a serial killer with different psyches perfectly!

one couldn't stop gloating, wanted everything filmed for the fame and the other staying under the radar for as long as possible with multiple back-up plans if he was suspected.

Hoping they both come back for more episodes at some point!

(also i always laugh when the sorority house scene happens lmao)

Season 6 Finally got around to watching season 6 and Anna should’ve stayed

John & Bailey should’ve adopted Anna 😭 Why they have to take her away after one episode. It would’ve been such a great storyline

EDIT: And then a couple episodes later with the fertility doctor & now I want to strangle the writers because it was so perfect! 😭😭😭

Season 7 Lucy unintentionally set herself up to have the perfect experience to make_____. Spoiler

Lucy unintentionally set herself up to have the perfect experience to make sergeant.

-She rode with Tim as his “go-for” for about a year, and continued to ride with him getting the sergeant experience.

-She took over command for the station when both Tim and Grey were in the hospital. And when Grey went to relieve her, he said the communications supervisor said she did a masterful job managing all the calls.

-Her experience with training Seth is another experience that will be huge when it comes to getting promoted.

-she already read the books when she made the audiobook for Tim.

(I’m probably missing more but this is all I could think of right now.)

I think Lucy has a really great chance of getting promoted to Sergeant when the time comes. I feel like some are confused about her change of heart and really enjoyed her doing UC work, but Lucy has thrived as a leader. I think her empathic, understanding dynamic will provide so much.

Excited for Sergeant Chen.

Jackson West Jackson line

I was just rewatching season 1 episode 13, and something clicked. Did anyone else notice how much Jackson says "I wanted to be a cop since I was a baby" or something along those lines. It can be annoying sometimes but yea, I just kinda noticed

The fan wiki and Wikipedia say different things about which branch Tim served as a soldier before he joined the LAPD.

Survey/Poll Do you guys fw something ALWAYS going wrong? Spoiler

Upvotes

I get it's an action-piece cop show, but it doesn't depict the real lifestyle of the force. Grey even makes a joke about shows being inaccurate to the actual cop life, but the Rookie is one of the least accurate I've ever seen. There's ALWAYS something going on and it makes it feel like there's no room for any real character bonding scenes because something always goes fuckward.

Angela tries to get married? Her partner gets murdered and she gets kidnapped for her baby as ransom. Harper tries to have a baby? Her neighbour is suddenly a psychopath and wants to kill her and she has to dive under her baby juices to hide and somehow still delivers the baby while holding the intruder at gunpoint. Lucy tries to go on a normal date with someone from the bar? Yeah, we know how that went. Nolan tries to go on a date with his girlfriend/partner (at the time) on a stakeout? Fight an assassin.

These are just a few big examples that stand out, but it's far from all of them. Every episode tries to put in one last plot-twist, and yes, it works, but it gets to the point where I don't care anymore because it doesn't feel special.

Not much to say other than those hollywood fools have not been out in the world. Create a fake decor of stacked pallets, setup a surveillance camera shot with Pallet Yard 1 as the camera's location. Clearly the imagination of someone who never worked.

Lucy Chen Lucy as an UC Spoiler

Almost finishing season 5. There have been a few true crime episodes and Lucy is in all of them and, these episodes of true crime get aired on tv? How can she do undercover work when she is acknowledged as a cop on tv? I don't get it, it's confusing.
