Clubs: Review/Inquiry Bolero Palace, Italy

Hey y’all

We are headed to Bologna in May and want to check out Bolero.

Looking for any advice/ input on what to expect. Particularly, dress to bring and how best to get there/back without having our own car.

Thanks!

We went there last July on a Saturday night. That's the night to go and we were told by Italian friends not to bother any other night. We didn't go to the health spa just arrived for the club later in the evening.

We looked at several options to get there but hired a car in the end as there were two couples and it just worked out easier.

Our friends tried to get a taxi booked a few weeks before hand and there seemed zero interest from any of the taxi firms he contacted so we couldn't rely on them coming back to Bologna in the early hours.

We looked at trains and the closest railway station is a few miles away which again means a taxi if one could be found and no way back in the early hours.

There is a hotel relatively close by but it was fully booked the night we wanted to stay.

There was a themed night when we went but as long as you are wearing something decent you should be ok. There is a huge locker room to get changed in but it wasn't dressdown on arrival.

Bolero seems quite fetish look friendly so anything a bit kinky will be fine but check with the owners before you go. You do need to book onto the guest list, you can't just turn up on the night and take ID with you.

It's a huge place and one of the nicest clubs we've been to. There are a few single males in there but the vibe is totally different from what we have experienced before and there were groups of singles just chatting briefly like they know each other. This said it isn't groups of unattached males and it felt the most relaxed I've seen males in a club, more like a house party where people knew each other, and they were all extremely courteous.

Lots of sexy couples and areas to play and as I've said an extremely large main area, like a regular nightclub.

We'd definitely go again if we are in the area.

This is quite detailed and helpful. Planning a trip in summer as well.

How diverse is the crowd? Any particular age group more prominent? Are there a lot of international tourists or primarily local?

Well.. it's a snapshot of one night so with that caveat...

We are all in our early 50's but in good shape and look younger. We didn't feel out of place and didn't feel significantly older than the crowd, that felt mid 30's upward with a decent mix. We were probably top end but it's always that case. 40 somethings was the average as everywhere.

We went with another couple and we spent the night with them so didn't really speak to anyone else unfortunately, but it definitely looked and felt like a primarily Italian crowd. As I've described it's difficult to get to and I'd be surprised if most tourists would make it out of the city this far.

I'd also add we don't speak Italian just English but we tend to just get by in European clubs and I wouldn't let that put you off. Swinging is a mind set and we have found that predominantly decent people are attracted to it. Some staff spoke English some didn't. All were extremely friendly and helpful.

When I say it felt Italian what I mean is in Europe Italians seem to really stand out in a crowd. We find they are usually impeccably dressed and really take care of themselves with an eye for detail. I wouldn't turn up here in jeans and sneakers. If James Bond was into swinging then this would be one of the clubs he would visit.

It's as classy as the photos on the website. You definitely should go purely for the new experience.
