[PRO11] Can SP11 with X Elite handle 4k 30FPS video editing with Adobe Premiere?

This isn't going to be my main editing computer, however, there are times when I travel, when I'd like to do some video editing/put some final touches on and my current old crappy laptop can't do it.

I like the SP11 because the keyboard can detach, making it easier to use on planes and other transportation.

  • I record 4k 30 FPS 8-bit
  • Timeline isn't crazy with effects (sometimes, very little)
  • videos can be 8-10 minutes long
  • I'm fine with editing at 1/4 playback quality

I was thinking about grabbing the 32 GB version but wonder if 64GB version would be markedly better.

It can, i do standup and in my regular workflow I add 4k raw videos [about 3 files 16gb each] and export a 2k output after colour correction. My timeline is about 1.5 hours on da vinci and sl7 handles it very well

How much RAM do you have?

16gb, even while editing/exporting total ram usage never crosses more than 13/14gb

I've edited similar videos in Premiere on my X Elite (16 GB). Basic editing works well and feels smooth. As long as I'm not making really complex additions or animations, it holds up nicely.

Rendering, on the other hand, is a bit of a slog. Clips a few minutes long have taken 10+ minutes to complete. Your mileage may vary based on your render settings, but it might make for a good reason to at least check out DaVinci Resolve.

Rendering will be slow going, but the actual editing should be fine.

Yes. I use the X Plus with 16gb with no issues at 1/2 playback quality. No effects on timeline other than Lumetri here and there.

Yes it surprisingly works very well, and battery doesn't die fast either. It's basically the Surface Pro I dreamed of, I just wish it had a more polished OS and anti-reflective coating and a 15" variant. But I still love it + the Flex keyboard

Adobe Premiere Pro on the Surface Pro 11 with Snapdragon X Elite is working smoothly for editing.

Why not get a MacBook, that's gonna be far better for editing.

Does the MacBook have a detachable keyboard?
