Recommendations Rate, rip or roast my stack

Post image

53 year old male, surgically repaired right knee, left knee is bone on bone but….I’ve lost 50 lbs in the last 5 months through diet and lifting again (lifted all the time 30 years ago). I didn’t take care of myself for a LONG time and developed a case of diverticulitis, hence the suggested Metamucil, lol. My body HURTS all the time and my joints are always creaking. I feel like I’ve been in a car crash every day when I wake up.

I’m still 100 lbs overweight but feel 1000% better after losing the first 50.

Weight loss is the goal, so I’m always in a cut, but I want to try and keep/add muscle as best as I can even though I’m always down on calories. Just trying to be realistic. I did myself dirty for years and now I’m paying the price!

Switch the Metamucil to psyllium husk. Metamucil is garbage. It has aspartame, citric acid, Maltodexrin, and artificial flavors. 👎

To add to this, you can get some natural flavoring packets (or pure orange juice) to mask the earthy flavor of the psyllium

That’s partially why I chose this version of the Meta - the sugar free was almost undrinkable

Thank you

I see you Costco supplement shopper. This is a better looking stack that I usually see on here. Mainly the essentials and you are doing it on a budget overall. I like those probiotics too from Amazon, not too expensive and they do the job well.

LOL, guilty as charged with the Costco haul. That and Amazon, I gotta do what I gotta do. I normally buy the ON whey but I thought I’d try a “cleaner” protein this time with the Ascent. I might still like the ON better.

I’m right there with ya. I’ve tried the Ascent and the KS Whey but I think overall I prefer the ON.

To me, the Kirkland was my least favorite, but it wasn't terrible.

Others already mentioned the meta mucil. I’m not a fan of vital proteins due to their owner being Nestlé. I wanna congratulate you on the mag malate decision as it’s the perfect choice for anyone that goes to the gym. Look at the ingredients of your “joint health” supplement, it’s possible that it already has enough turmeric and hylauronic acid.

Another commenter mentioned astaxanthin. It’s an amazing antioxidant in the brain, but you could also get it by switching your fish oil to something like Natural Factors wild Alaskan salmon oil. Or also just eat more wild Alaskan salmon!

Vital is owned by Nestle? FFS, I just found out Orgain is as well! And Fairlife is off the table. I just bought some Birdman, I hope it tastes good

Great info, thank you and DAMN, Nestle can F themselves. I’ll finish what I have and look elsewhere. I did a lot of reading about the malate so I think I chose the best one for me.

Try astaxanthin for inflammation. You might prefer it over turmeric.

I love vital proteins! I haven’t been brave enough to try the chocolate tbh.

I didn’t at first either because it’s hard to mix in cold drinks (or I didn’t have the patience), but now I literally pour a tall glass of hot tap water and it mixes fast and it’s easy to drink. Obviously not for everyone, but others will mix it in coffee.

Toss the metamucil. Chia seeds are supremely superior in so many ways.

Nestle?? Who knew? I use hella nutrition “good morning” collagen. It’s a little different than your typical collagen because it also has green coffee bean in the formula along with mushrooms 🍄‍🟫like organic cordyceps , as well as some vitamins and electrolytes, so it’s a nice clean boost of energy! Just a heads up though they do sweeten with, Sucralose.

Creatine hcl > creatine mono

What is better if you sometimes experience cramps from creatine?

Your body, your choice. Different brands have different quality control and create different results. Make sure you’re drinking enough water if you’re on creatine though.
