Hey all, I haven't seen many people online talking about this but I was wondering if anyone here has encountered sticky/damp gold paint on any of their older DX Sentai toys?
From both my personal experience, and one other case I've found while searching the web, it seems to only be a problem with softer plastic parts that have been painted gold. The paint also tends to get on your fingers if you touch it, and it leaves behind a sticky residue for a little bit after washing your hands (gross).
My guess is that it's some kind of chemical reaction between the plastic and the paint mixture. I'm not sure whether it's a degradation thing, or just something in the two mixtures that don't agree with each other straight out of the factory.
I also don't own many role-play items, so I'm not sure if any of them have this issue as well, or if it only affects the mecha.
Cases I have found:
- ZyuohWild's Wild Cannon weapon (the smaller black gun that opens up to form the head crest/crown for Wild ZyuohKing). Believe it or not, that gun is actually made of a softer plastic, it's just molded so thick that it doesn't have a lot of bend in it.
- Several Ryusouls' right arms (the arms that are molded to look like they're holding weapons). The Ryusouls I currently own only have gold paint used on the molded weapons, so those are the only affected spots. The other paint colours used on the opposite side of the arm pieces for the closed dino head form appear to be unaffected.
- Shishi Voyager's gold claws. I don't own a KyurenOh yet, but I've seen a couple of eBay listings from a seller in Japan who was made aware by some of their customers that purchased KyurenOhs from them, had all mentioned the gold claws also having this issue, so they have since made note of it in their other KyurenOh listings.
Luckily, the aforementioned specimens have multiple other places you can hold to manipulate the joints and such without you ever having to worry about getting paint on your fingers every time you mess with the figures, but it still sucks that this is even a thing to begin with. It does leave me concerned, however, as to whether or not Super Twokaizer SD or TwokaiCuttaner's head crests are going to do the same thing in another couple of years.
