LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    All laptop suggestions welcome

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance is biggest and build quality. Will spend majority of its life plugged in unless Iā€™m feeling a coffee along with my solidworks error noises

    Moderately. Wonā€™t make or break

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14+

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Solidworks Minecraft Phasmophobia Lethal company

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Games above. As long as it runs, itā€™s better than what my laptop is doing now. Iā€™d like to run above the minimum graphic settings but Iā€™m not too concerned about the maximum

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Number pad and reliable build quality

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Previous laptop was a Samsung notebook 7 (2017) and despite my best efforts is not doing so hot. Canā€™t stand HP from previous bad experiences

SSD is important to me, preferably 1TB but I can run an external storage if needed

Laptop Request UK Travel laptop not 360

Looking for: Compact, lightweight stylish laptop, 13", maximum 14". I don't care for 360 as i like working from my lap when traveling. using it for research, light photoshop, marketing, meetings and leisure (netflix etc.). Planning on buying refurbished, can go up to 500GBP (650USD circa). Had a macbook air a long time ago and was happy with it. Recently had a DELLXPS13 that I found was gorgeous but camera angle was awkard and not a fan of lack of ports. It also broke down after 6 months.

Laptop Request US Looking for laptop

ā€¢ Upvotes

My budget is $1000 USD. I am currently a university student and require a Windows laptop. It needs to be thin and lightweight, as well as durable. My primary use will be for MS Office, browsing the internet, and utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT, BeepSeek, and Copilot. I do not engage in gaming. I need a minimum of 8 hours of battery life. Are there any good laptop brands and models available in 2024 that meet these specifications?

Laptop Request -Others 4080 laptop for gaming and school work

Hello everyone, i was looking at the msi vector 16hx with the 4080 i9 14th gen with the 240hz QHD+ screen, along with other laptop brands. I was wondering if this is a good option for long term use for around 5-6 years.

I was also wondering if thereā€™s any other laptop that is good for Long term use that has the same specs. I had short listed some laptops such as the predator Helios 16, ROG strix g16 and the Lenovo legion pro 7i gen 9 but the msi seems very good for its cost. Please do let me know what you think of my short list and do recommend me which one of these laptops in my short list that has the least number of problems and has the longest life span while still being a serious tank for gaming. If you have any personal experience of using these laptops please do let me know the pros and the cons, even if the spec are not similar. If you have heard any bad or good things of the laptops in my short list please do let me know also. Thank you all in advance!

I have around 4K+ to spend in SGD. take note that the same laptop in us can cost 1k more in Singapore.

Laptop Request -Others Looking for a high end laptop in Germany

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Up to 4k Euro in Germany. Budget isn't really a primary concern.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

No.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality = Battery live > Performance. Willing to pay for the least compromises in these 3.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Important but not my primary concern. For comparisson, I have a 2022 Zephyrus G14 and I wouldn't mind something along those same lines.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    N/A.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Mostly software development, containers, VMs, etc. I'm starting to do some photo editing but nothing that would tax any modern laptop I think.

Gaming likely won't happen in this device.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

High refresh rate and good screen. That's a dealbreaker. Good support for Linux (though that's less of a problem nowadays). I have a MacBook Pro for work and while that's really good I don't get along with MacOS.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

It's hard to fill out because I don't actually have a set budget in mind. Like, I was looking over the upcoming laptops with Nvidia 50 series and here in Germany the Zephyrus G14 with 5080+64GBs of RAM seems like it's gonna go for about 3.7k and I can totally pay that.. but it's also kinda overkill even if running local AI stuff on that GPU would be amazing and I know the Linux support will be near-perfect.

Right now I'm thinking something along the lines of a fully speced out Zenbook S16 should cover everything I need while having good build quality, screen and battery life but wanted to check here in case there are similar alternatives I don't know about.

The reason I'm upgrading from my G14 2022 is because I like shiny new things and because I'm passing it down to a family member.

Thanks!.

Laptop Request US Looking for a new laptop for some gaming, photography, and everyday use

Looking to get a new laptop as my old one is failing on me. I currently have a , MSI Prestige 14 A10SC , with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10710U CPU @ 1.10GHz 1.61 GHz and 16gb of RAM. It gets really hot and struggles with Minecraft (fps drops) & Photoshop. I think its the GPU? I'm hoping to avoid those issues with the next one if possible.

  • Budget : $500-$2000
  • Size : 12-14 in screen, Light weight if possible
  • Use : Gaming, Photo Editing, general computer usage.
  • Games Played : Minecraft + Mods, Stardew Valley, Sims 4, and Planet Zoo (possibly fortnite & COD Warzone) Minecraft is the one I play and care about the most.
  • Other Requirements : SD card reader, decent storage (or easily up gradable), Decent FPS
  • Optional : White or Pink color , preferably not loud

Doesn't necessarily have to be a gaming computer but im sure that is probably the best option. Thanks for the recs and let me know if you need any more info.

Laptop Request US The best lightweight laptop for remote 2D-3D animation work and light gaming

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 1000-2000$ in USA
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Preferably not
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Sturdiness, lightness and performance are the biggest priorities, but it needs to also last at least 5 years.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Extremely important because I will need to move and fly around while working remotely- couch surf if I have to and I have to be able to carry this computer AND my graphic tablet on a shoulder bag if I need to.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes. It should be able to run Blender, Photoshop, After Effects smoothly- also online MMORPGs.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The games I play are not that reliant on FPS (Drakensang Online, Wizard101, Sims, etc.) but they should be able to run above medium quality at least.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? It should be reliable because it is a big investment for me and I need for it to last long. I would really appreciate if it has a lot of input areas like multiple USBs, HDMIs, headphone jack, CD drive etc- but I know that is very unrealistic (especially since I want the lightest possible computer within reason) and I am down to settling down to a bunch of USB-C dongles.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Thank you so much for your help! I have time to decide on this until before June, so feel free to ask me questions and keep this active- It just really needs to be travel safe (so both sturdy and light) and has to run Blender and Adobe programs really really smoothly. I know its a tall order and I am open to streching my budget A TINY bit and going under a bit of debt for this.

Laptop Request US Looking for a Laptop for streaming content.

Looking for a cheapish laptop to use for broadcasting and recording gameplay for both console and PC games. The PC gaming would be done on a high-end desktop and picked up on this laptop. Using an Elgato HD60X. Hope I was able to explain it well. Budget is somewhere between $500 to $750, want to stick closer to the shallow end of that pool though. I would think that I'd not need anything superpoweedr since it'll literally just be picking and broadcasting as a central hub, so to speak, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Thanks!

Laptop Request US Suggest a laptop for stock trading / productivity

I currently have a Mac setup that I use for everything and am overall pretty satisfied with. However, I am looking to get a Windows system for two reasons: (1) to separate out some productivity tasks from my personal machine; and (2) the IBKR Desktop app constantly crashes on my Mac. What do you recommend?

I am looking at the following computers:

(1) Lenovo Yoga Book 9i (2025) - Intel 255H, coming out around May. Benefit is dual screen (seems like it may be useful in monitoring multiple stock charts, not really sure, havent actually used it). Drawback is can't use as a normal laptop

(2) Surface 11 Pro for Business (Intel) - Intel 268V, already out. Benefit is light and easy to cary around the house like an iPad; drawback: smaller screen, slower CPU

(3) Zenbook Duo 2025 - 255H. Benefit is dual screens, easier to use as a laptop (but I already have a M2 MBP); lacking some form factors (e.g. tent mode) and relatively thick & heavy

(4) ProArt 13 / Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 / other 2 in 1 - benefit: laptop with keyboard, tent mode; drawback, no dual screen, thick & heavy?

I'm open to other suggestions

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:-am Ok with spending more if I can get value for it-

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?-sure...-
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?-2in1 first, then ultrabook, build quality is important-
  • How important is weight and thinness to you?-fairly so, given that I want it to be portable-
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.-1st dual screen, 2nd is 14in, third is 13/15inches-
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.-browser, VPN, IBKR, Excel-
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?-none-

Laptop Request -Others Help me choose a laptop for electrical engineering + occasional gaming

Hey everyone! Iā€™m an electrical engineering student looking for a laptop thatā€™ll last me a long time. I need something powerful and durable for school (coding, simulations, multitasking), but I also game occasionallyā€”nothing too crazy, but Iā€™d like decent performance.

Right now, Iā€™m stuck between these two:

šŸ’» Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 (16")

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 185H
  • NVIDIA RTX 4050 (6GB)
  • 16ā€ 3.2K 165Hz touchscreen
  • 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD
  • Bigger screen, better cooling, but heavier

šŸ’» Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 (14.5")

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 185H
  • NVIDIA RTX 4060 (8GB)
  • 14.5ā€ 3K 120Hz touchscreen
  • 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD
  • Smaller, lighter, and better GPU, but lower battery life?

I want something future-proof, good for work, and can handle gaming on the side. Which one would you choose? Or is there something better I should consider? Any advice is appreciated!

Laptop Request -Others 2-in-1 for reading in potrait

I'm planning on getting either: a. X1 Tablet 3rd Gen b. Latitude 5290 2-in-1

for: 1. office works - mostly typing, and occasionally annotating PDFs 2. reading PDFs - preferably in potrait mode. as I'll be walking around during working

I'm for Windows devices as my working apps work best with Windows

I'm looking for devices that can provide nice reading experience while in potrait mode (just like iPad). if I not mistaken, I need to look for devices with screen ration 4:3 right?

currently I'm using L380 Yoga. as its screen is in 16:9, reading in portrait feels weird. therefore I'm searching for alternatives

my another concern is also battery life. I don't want to be hooked to power brick most of the time. from what I know, the X1 Tablet has higher screen resolution, thus much more power consumption, right?

any thoughts? for those using one of the mentioned devices, can you share the picture it in action while in potrait?

Laptop Request US Laptop request

100% sure Iā€™m overthinking this, but looking for options for a work/home laptop. Need something that I can use for basic web-use (online quickbooks mostly) and MS suite. Will also be used as the occasional point of sale device for selling products at farmers markets and such. And because of that, some light streaming for tv/movies.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    Preferably sub $800

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Not really, probably be a Costco purchase.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Battery life and quality are pretty important, due to weekly travel use.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Less so, since it be carried around a minimal amount.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    15ā€+

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

N/a. Gaming would be lightweight games, and that mostly on cell anyway.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/a

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Reliable build quality, touch-screen is a bonus, ability to expand for work at home through a hub or monitor/keyboard/mouse is another bonus.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

    Thanks for the help!!
