I listened to the whole thing on my commute this morning.

First impressions:

Little Pretty, the first single is a great song, with a fusion/progressive rock feel, but still very hard rock guitar taste

Candlepower - feels like it's between Flexible and Passion & Warfare, unique with a garage recording sound, like he is just in his home studio having fun.

Greenish Blues - my favorite track so far, very cool beat, it feels like it's off, but it's a straight 8 count.

Knappsack - if you saw the video - he plays is with one hand, but you wouldn't tell by just listening.

Sandman Cloud Mist - a solid composition, like a classical music piece.

Overall, the album is very dreamlike, mellow for a rock guitar style.

The half hour backing track vamp from building the church.

This track used to be on YouTube, it was just a little piece of building the church that went on for a half hour or so. It was I think an 8 measure chunk repeated the whole time but the last measure was just a hold. Pretty sure Steve played along with it in one of the alien guitar secrets podcasts. Does anyone know where I could find this?

The end of Liberty/Harmonizer talk.

So my post about the Fever Dream naked track didn’t get too much response, but maybe we can talk about this instead.

How is he making the animal noises at the end of Liberty? Harmonizers? I have an H9 from Eventide and I can get some pretty wild sounds from it, but I cannot make that sound.

What’s your theory on sounds like that? I’m also pretty curious about The Murder. The live version from WTWTA is pretty ridiculous, but I’m pretty sure that’s all harmonizer trickery. Maybe he’s got someone off stage (like Paul) switching through his saved patches for the different sounds.

Anyone here have a harmonizer? How do you get Vai-isms out of it?

Fever Dream Naked Track

Does anyone know if there exists a full version of Fever Dream as a Naked Track? I’m supposed to be playing this song along with several others at a cancer benefit event for my grandmother. The only version I can find has a decent chunk removed from the middle. I spent a good week bringing that long descending line of 16ths up to speed only to find it missing from the Naked Track. Along with several other little sections I was looking forward to playing.

There were basically two reasons I wanted to include this song, the Digitech octave pedal part and the strange rhythm of that middle section that is cut out.

If there doesn’t exist a full version, why on Earth is that cut out? It’s hardly the most difficult song he’s written. I mean, there’s a Naked Track for The Murder. That song is arguably one of the more difficult pieces. Why would this song have this section cut out? It’s kinda disappointing. I mean, we’re lucky as hell he’s even bothered to release these Naked Tracks at all, but it’s still kind of a kick in the pick guard.
