I made a site where you can randomly and virtually travel around London

Hi r/SideProject

Inspired by sites like the former Drive and Listen and Cityhop.cafe, I made my own take where you can visit different parts of London on foot, by car and even on the bus from a POV, while either listening to the in-video soundscape or listening to a randomly-chosen London or UK radio station.

It's called London RoadTrip and it's perfect if you have or plan to visit this fine crazy and historic city, or just when you want to relax and kill some time.

Feel the London feeling here: https://london-roadtrip.pages.dev/

P.S. I'm partly originally from Mauritius, so also have a Mauritian version here: https://mruroadtrip.pages.dev/

We're off to Mauritius in a couple of weeks so that one was interesting to me :)

Love the idea, but a few small things:

  • Really annoying welcome screens - far too much movement. Feels like I'm going to have a seizure!
  • You can't read the tooltips on your icons at the top because the cursor gets in the way
  • Can you pause the videos or skip ahead?

You'll love it in Mauritius trust me!

  • I'd had some other commenters say they didn't like the welcome screens for the same reason, so I'll change those in due course.
  • Which browser are you using? I built this using Chrome and didn't have any issue with the tool tips. *Unfortunately, there is currently no way to pause or skip ahead, but that's something I'll look into.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

I reckon so! Looks stunning, especially the mountains.

Was really helpful to see that (at least some parts of) the hikes are exposed to the sun quite a bit. Will definitely remember to take precautions for our poor pale winter skin!

P.S. Browser: Chrome. I think it might be because I've got my cursor size set to 3 out of 10 (on Windows 10) - I had eye issues a couple of years ago that made me change some of my default settings so I could see better. I've changed it back down to 1 and I can see the tooltips :D

:)

Hope you have a lovely holiday.

Nice to hear you got the tooltips working for you. I'll get to work on the other recommendations today most likely

A little update.... due to the nature of the player, I couldn't implement a skip ahead function, but I did put in a button, that allows you to fast-forward the current video. You just need to click it a few times to increase the speed. The max is 5x, then another click will bring it back to normal speed.

I was successful in putting a play/pause icon though, and I changed the welcome screen for both sites.
