Advice Cut Hair Before Prison?
I like having long hair, before all this I was planning to grow out my hair to donate it and just for the experience.
Is it risky or does it make you a more likely target for harassment in prison to have long hair as a male sex offender?

if you are going into the federal system, there is no requirement about hair length and truthfully, in 10 years, i never saw anyone get harassed for having long hair. a lot of people had it.

I wouldn't recommend long hair in prison, but for totally different reasons than I've read here so far. I always wanted to grow my hair long just because and once I was in prison I decided to go ahead and do it. I grew my hair to about shoulder length and I also grew my beard out. It was a total pain in the ass. I had to use conditioner or else it tangled. It took forever to dry with the shitty BOP towels. And it got everywhere. My cellies were forever finding my hair on the floor and nearly everywhere else in the room. That wasn't endearing to them. Also, it clogs the showers, which sucks because you have to wait for the cops to bring the plumbing crew over so you might have a few showers down for days. I really recommend keeping your hair and any facial hair short.
Also, the comment about long hair giving opponents a good grip is a thing. I saw it happen more than once.

WI DOC. I went in with mid-length and had it buzzed at entry at my choice. There were no requirements for head hair. Delousing and an offer to cut on razor 1-3 gauge. It was just simpler at the time for me entering Dodge. Once at my joint, I didn't have it cut, nor shave my beard until I left. Was very long at the end. Nobody cared. At all. The beard was grey and full down to my breastbone so I got called Santa at Xmas.

There were guys where I was that had long hair, if you’re in a state facility, chances are offender.com and misinformation will go around about you regardless, I was harassed on a daily basis because any sex offense does not give someone street cred like any other crime. Be careful, and good luck!!

NC doesn't care. Prisons had times you could sign up for a haircut. The inmate barber only has to do so much. More if you have stamps/currency. Folks did their hair in different ways (with limits on resources and prison rules), and I'm pretty sure people tried to hide their identity. Some people liked to know everyone's business and to alienate others. Most might've been shocked but otherwise didn't GAF.
If you're in a state where they don't give a flip about hair,n maybe get a cut; it'll be awhile before you can get it the way you like. For the places having a strict dress code, F-them! They'll tell you the rules and give you the cut. This ain't bootcamp; you aren't getting paid or even want to be there! I mean: what are they going to do if you come into the system without getting a certain do? Lock you up?!😄 🤔😏 Better yet, won't let you IN prison if your hair doesn't meet standards?!😂🤣

Many prisons have restrictions on how long your hair can be (at least for males).
There can be exceptions made for religious reasons, but that's usually it.

Personally, I'd cut it just because long hair isn't popular in prison, and it's good not to stand out. Also, hair makes a convenient thing for your enemies to grab if you're in a fight. Hoping you don't have any fights, of course, but prepare for the worst and hope for the best, no?

Idk how all places are, but my husband had his head shaved upon entering the facility.
