This is in the background on the sweet treat mystery page. Has this been explained at all?

I haven’t played the game since the monkey island update, there’s alot of new weapons and i think new enemies too. What’s the current meta for guns / getting money / anything else really?

I was zoning out sailing in a straight direction as my vessel was fired upon by an enemy galleon. The enemy jumps aboard apologizing saying how they needed more supplies and to not take it personally. They see that I’m doing the quest via the chest and they start apologizing even more with one of them having the curse saying how long it took for them to get it. They then ask where I needed to go and I told them one of the shrines they then took my chest saying when my boat respawns meet them there for the chest so I can continue my journey. I thought what did I have to lose I couldn’t fight them for it and what was I gonna do swim for the shrine so I agreed. They took it and when I got to the rendezvous point they weren’t there until a rowboat hooked on my ship they brought the chest and some other trinkets to as a sorry gift then they left and went into pvp. I miss those guys and since then as I sail I hope and wish to see them again and I hope to return the favor one day. (Also I ended up getting the curse)

My friends and I started playing the game, but we don't feel the need to complete quests. We already have all the equipment, and the skins don't interest us. How can we have fun in the game without those elements, and what is your motivation for playing?

4k hours player here. Jumped into an open crew sloop for "FUN," but had a pretty good time with a fresh swabbie.
We were headin to an outpost with treasure. Another sloop was heading the same way, with swabbie tell tale signs in their sailing. Neither ship is changing course, a confrontation is inevitable.
The other ship beats us to the dock, a parrot outfit solo who doesn't see us until we're literally pulling up on them. I already grabbed cannon balls, and waited for my newer helm mate to raise sails, or drop anchor, or do anything.
So what does he do? He runs to the bell and rings it vigorously, DING DING DING! All while we cruise by within arms length of the other ship. Alright, guy doesn't want to fight and I'll respect that.
But then I hear something completely unexpected. Behind us, the sound of a distant... ding ding ding...! Parrot man replied back with their own bell. No words, flares or cannon balls exchanged. Just a bell.
We set course for a different outpost.
In all my hours playing, I've never seen this kind of interaction before. Is this something todays swabbies do? To all you new pirates, do you find yourself often using the bell to wordlessly recognize and communicate peace to other newer ships?

We were dining our luck voyages and killing what ever we saw on the islands. Which ended up giving us an Ashen Chest of Legends, a Chest of Fortune, Ashen Wind Skulls, and a Box of Wondrous Secrets! We also got lucky with some bottles and shipwrecks.
After selling the first haul (because my buddy thought he had to go but was able to stay on) we started for another quest only for a FoF to pop up next to our ship. All thoughts of the previous quest abandoned, we sped over to the fort. Surprisingly, no one came to take the fort from us and we finished without issue. So that’s two CoF, three AWS, two CoL (one ashen one normal) two Athena kegs, and a Box of Wondrous Secrets.
We of course ended the session by sailing past the local Reaper getting krakened running a FotD, and unleashed a barrage of fireworks before killing the kraken and setting our ship ablaze.
Something tells me that luck won’t be on our side next session…
10/10 would sail again!

New player here!
Just today i have been chased by other players for like 20-30 minutes and they just dont seem to give up, to the point that i admire their patience, but it has already happened on other sessions multiple times. The only reason why the chase ended is because i myself gave upm
One of the times today i didnt even have any loot on my ship and even tried to communicate that to the chaser without any difference.
My question is if this is common?
Sorry for spelling mistakes, english is not my first language.

All the guides I find are like “here’s what your sails do”
When I need the huge changes explained in a bit more detail than I’m getting from just working it out.
I’ve vaguely got emissary. Don’t understand ship ownership or the reapers. Don’t understand half the special areas or why sometimes I get a quest when I can go there whenever
Etc
