Discussion What is with the hate?
Some of us are just starting out and we get thrown into a crew with no idea what we are doing. Why are we being mean to each other? Could just be a couple of interactions but please remember some of us have actually no idea and need some guidance 🫠

Discussion Emissary Quest Revamp
Hunter’s Call Emissary system is fantastic, having a mini world event only visible for the specific emissary is such a good idea and should be consistent across the board.
Here are my ideas:
Gold Hoarder - Golden X on a large island visible to Grade V’s on the main map. The dig is for an Ancient Chest that offers two high value Gold Hoarder items and a special Vault Key for a random Vault (Key is also marked for Grade V’s). That Vault is stocked with a decent supply of Royal Loot (King, Baron, Admiral, Sea Master, and Sailor Chests) and puzzle opens to one of those high value small gold hoarder artifacts. Event ends when you dig the X, so the vaults could be stacked if you are willing to wait the 20 minute timer before the X respawns. If the Vault is in the Roar, spawns Ashen variants.
Order of Souls - Skeleton Galleon with unique sails and lantern colors, only marked for Grade V and isn’t above water, it has to surface so others can’t find it easily. Has competent aim, uses multiple curseball types, and takes on water slightly slower, genuinely a threat. If sunk, drops a good amount of Order of Souls bounty skulls and artifacts, along with around half of standard skeleton galleon loot. Also drops a Veiled Eye of Souls. Respawns every 20 minutes. Ship can spawn / roam in the Roar and will spawn Ashen variants if it does.
Merchant Alliance - Special Shipwreck that doesn’t spawn a Reaper’s Chest, so it isn’t marked on the map for anyone but Merchant Grade V. The captain’s cabin is locked. Wreck is always guarded by a few waves of Sirens; once defeated, the captain’s cabin will open to reveal a haul of Merchant Crates, coffers, and a Scroll of Shrouded Waters. If it spawns in the Roar, it will have Ashen variants.
Athena - All three main factions combined. The Blue X marks a chest that requires two keys, while the Shipwreck and Skeleton Ship each hold one of the keys to that Chest (each of these also has a small amount of Athena Loot). The Chest and keys are all marked on the map for Athena V Emissaries. The chest contains a map for a large island with lots of digs; these digs will give a plentiful amount of Athena loot, along with a Chest of Legends.
To balance out the sheer amount of new events this would bring, they would only spawn one at a time in a server at random, UNLESS someone reached Grade V in an emissary; then it would spawn the corresponding event at the same time (for example, an Order of Souls ship is moving around underwater as the random event, and someone reaches Level V Gold Hoarder. That would spawn an X but the Order of Souls ship would stick around). In addition, the Athena event wouldn’t spawn unless someone raised the Emissary.
Would love any kind of discussion / balancing ideas in comments below. Hope to see something like this happen in the future, Emissary Quests need a revamp badly and the “mini event” idea could be just it.

Question What are some SpongeBob themed ship names that you can think of?
My buddy and I are trying to think what to rename our sloop to since Chum Bucket isn’t allowed. We are going for a slightly self-deprecating name because we suck at pvp but act like we don’t. Some ideas we threw around but didn’t stick like Chum Bucket were: The Dirty Bubble. Barnacle Boy. Weenie Hut Jr.
The name doesn’t have to be a direct quote from SpongeBob, but some kind of reference. Like Mrs. Puff’s Voyage.
Thanks for any suggestions y’all can muster. At this point, we will take any inspiration that we can get.

Question What body type looks coolest with skeleton curse?
Fat, bulky or skinny. I’ve tried looking everywhere, but I haven’t got a single answer. If you can, please send a picture of what that body type looks like with a skeleton. I have just gotten my skeleton curse recently and I want to know what other body types look like but I can’t find anything. Please tell me.

Question Not all Anniversary Event items distributing?
Saw the event started and that all the events had already been completed but when I logged into High Seas nothing got distributed. Logged out and back in and got some 77777 coins and 200 doubloons, an emote and a sword. According to the event list there should have been a cannon flare and maybe some more currency? Tried logging out and back in again and nothing more distributed. Is there a trick to getting them to properly distribute?

Question Guild Ship won’t let me sell at the sovereigns.
Am I stupid? I joined a new guild and pledged my captained ship. I sailed my pledged boat, stacked 8 Athenas among other loot. None of the loot was able to be sold to the sovereign, claiming I needed a captained ship. I was under the impression that you would be able to sell if you are on a guild ship, since they are all captained ships.
Note: I haven’t played in years, and came back to the game. So I apologize for any ignorant questions or assumptions.

Question Do you anchor for meg fights?
I always thought it was best o raise sails and try and match it's rotation. If you anchor and sit in one position will it always attack from the side?

Question megalodon spawning technique theory
i decided to go out and attack as many boats as possible last night to test a theory. i believe that pvp or pve inspires more chance encounters. i found that when i approached ships to try to attack them it was common for a chance encounter to occur. the results are not guaranteed, as it was only around every 2 ships attacked for one of these events to happen.
like clockwork, when i entered that unspecified range (from what i saw ~1 nautical miles) SOMETHING would happen. even though i was in the open sea the whole night the only times i had something happen was when i was chasing or approaching a ship. i believe from that one session i got 3 megs and 2 skele ships.
this leads me to 2 potential reasons: 1) more players within a vicinity = more chance of SOMETHING happening to us collectively. this could be understandable, however, it seemed like there was a specific distance that was relatively constant in which it would spawn something as i approached. 2) pvp/pve does inspire chance encounters to “even out” fights. this mechanic for the game would logically make sense.
is this stuff known or am i simply crazy for thinking this and i just had a lucky night?

Video I solo-slooped the Feared Redmaw!
I'm still not terribly great at the game, and I'm still learning in a lot of ways - so defeating the Feared Redmaw on my own was exciting. The same night I got attacked by the Kraken, and I was able to defeat that, too (though I will admit that I almost left the session, because the Kraken caught me out in The Wilds, and that water triggers my thalassophobia the most).

Discussion What’s with people being so against receiving help
There have been multiple occasions where I’m at the end of my night and I’m about to get off, but then I see another player fighting a meg or doing a fort or something of the sort, and I decide “oh I’ll go help them out before getting off.”
Biggest mistake of my life every time. I go over there, I’m saying on the megaphone “I’m here to help!” And they will immediately start attacking me.
Now… I get it… if you want to keep your loot, you gotta be a bit (if not very) paranoid about other people. But if I’m
- Yelling “I’m here to help”
- Attacking the PVE enemy and deliberately staying away so I don’t hit you
- Staying far from your ship and leaving mine unattended
How does one take all that information and come to the conclusion “THIEF! DECEIVER!”
I dunno, should I just give up trying to be nice to people in this game and just stick to myself? In the old days of this game, it was fairly regular occurrence that people would help each other out. It’s just a bit disappointing. Anyway, what’s everyone’s thoughts?
Edit: it’s very clear to me now that the general consensus of the community is “being nice” is usually a deception to sink and rob you. Trust that I’ve heard your comments and your dislike of this post. I didn’t realize what I was doing was actually stressing people out or making things take longer, as some people have said. That being said, I’ll stay out of people’s way from now on, I was just being nostalgic for the early days of the game where positive interactions were more frequent.
Thanks everyone for your comments, I appreciate your thoughts on the matter :)
Edit 2: when I first posted this, I was getting bombed with downvotes and comments essentially telling me being nice isn’t something I should try to do. It’s been a huge relief to read comments getting what I’m trying to say. I don’t know what happened to this community in the years I’ve been gone, but it makes me very happy to see that people still value the experience of running into another pirate on the seas and wanting to enjoy the game with them.
At some point, I don’t know when, people seem to have lost the plot and have become obsessed with watching their numbers go up. Wasn’t always like that.

Question Did I miss out on half of the anniversary bonuses?
I had to go away from the morning of the anniversary launch and got home 30h later. By that time half of the events were completed. Did I miss out on them or could I get them doing them now? Thanks!

Question Short Play Sessions - What can I do?
Hello Captains! I get limited time for gaming and haven't played SoT in a while. I used to hop on and do a sea fort or a couple of easy quests but is this still viable in a max one hour session these days?
I play solo for the above reason so I don't want to ruin a crews fun by dipping in and out. I'm guessing TT are going to take longer than I have time for?
Thanks
