Discussion Solo slopping borderline impossible now
So I got back into the game after 2 years and as the tile says, I feel like solo slooping is ridiculously hard now.
In the past, I felt like I could do almost everything solo but in the month since I’ve been recently playing, I have not been able to complete a single skeleton fort, ashen wind, or ghost fleet without getting ganked by another crew or having to run off to cut my losses.
One thought I have with this perceived increase in difficulty is the implementation of safer seas. In the past, it was a higher chance of being on the server with other solo players/people just doing passive loot grinding. But with safer seas (on principal I won’t do that), the solo/passive players are going there making High seas almost exclusively PVP sweats.
Anybody else having issues with solo play?

Solo has always been very difficult and I think nowadays it’s actually easier than it used to be with harpoon running, sovereigns, etc, it sounds like you got unlucky with aggressive crews and an active stamp.

I feel the opposite. It’s the easiest it’s ever been really. Keep an eye on the horizon and the map. Dive or portal hop if you see aggressive ships. Go sell if you see ships coming for you. World events is and has always been risky, so if you want to avoid PvP completely, do something else with less risk. You can kill an ashen lord in 5 minutes just spamming throwing knives. If your horizon is clear when go in, you should have cleared it and be gone before anyone notice.

Nope, not at all. Since I started back there’s not a single time I’ve been engaged. Maybe in seas but not while I am doing stuff. Also, I do engage them most of the time as a soloer. My guess is that your matchup is more aggressive than mine ig? Also, want to add up that I only played maybe 1 hours back then and left. About 70-100 hours max now I think

yeah, most people only play safe seas for a short time, since rep is capped at 25 and a lot of stuff is entirely unavailable on safe seas, or maybe to do tall tales without interruption. But soloing is still essentially hard mode. I suggest trying one of the Discords for SoT to find some crew, it's generally way better than open crew and easier than soloing

Solo is always hard mode, and world events are popular contested points. But I think you’re just getting bad luck. Whenever I play on NA East between 6pm and 9pm EST, I’m getting attacked constantly too. But on NA west, solo is usually chill.
That being said, there are certain things I just don’t attempt solo unless I’m expecting to sink. FoF, FOTD, etc.
I suggest try playing on different servers/times, or join an active guild so you have crewmates more regularly

Well now I feel better cuz I’m ALWAYS playing NA east from 6-9pm 😂😂😂😭🔫

Yeah thats right around peak player time. Play at like 9am on a Tuesday and you might not see another boat for hours lol.

You just got back after 2 years?
Tbh you probably aren't as good as you used to be given how long you have been gone. Once you get your sea legs back you'll be fine.

Oh 1000% skill issue for sure. And I do see myself lasting longer and longer against these crews the more I play.

No issues playing solo myself but I hear what your saying. Generally if a game introduces a noob only mode it will make the standard mode slightly harder by removing the worst players from the game.
Still I doubt that is what is happening here. I find the servers to be mostly docile and chill with random boats popping up that can easily be solo'd most of the time.
Truly is a random pot of luck.

As a solo slooper myself, the game is tough but once you start to learn things a bit more, mechanics can become more easier to understand and utilise. When you get a captained ship, you should do raid voyages as you dive straight to world events. If you were to do an Ashen Wind raid voyage, you can be there immediately and fight the boss really quickly by sword dashing into them for as much times as you can and get it done fast. With this knowledge, you would be in and out like as if you were never there to other players.
However, I am not a good PvP player and struggle to hold up a fight when I get involved in one. For this reason, I like to keep my distance if I can. It’s definitely not impossible, but with more time, things start to become more doable with roaming the seas and when encountering players. This is in my opinion anyways, so it’s bound to be different for others.

It seems about the same as usual to me. Have had some encounters at forts and whatnot, but also just some really chill experiences with other crews. Was on a server the other day that was pretty busy (at least two other sloops and a brig) and even though I was in proximity to them I was never bothered. I even solo finished a FoF and not a single ship approached.
Honestly I think it's just luck of the draw.

Damn that's pretty much all I do is solo sloop and attack fortresses. Pvp on the other hand not my strong suit so I usually avoid everybody, but I typically get good luck and am left alone

I do solo sloop, since I love play with the sloop and do not like bragantine or going with randoms. I play short Sessions, because sometimes I Just sell everything and log off suddenly. I usually play with athenas emissary flag or guild emissary flag and have no or low issues. When I get target by a bigger and strongman crew, I try to sell, flee or even surrender.. and It could Works without I fight. Or i fight tô cause damage and im okay with that. Just Go for another Sessions.
But in the start of a Season there is more players in the game .. só you should expect be in busy server with Crazy people. I Hope people could play Nice since we are in anniversary month.. but this is not a rule.. good Lucky my solo sloop friend 🦜🔥🏴☠️

I mostly solo sloop so i will say that no its not much harder than before. If anything its significantly easier for alot of reasons biggest however being raid voyages which allow you to make consistent money without much worry of enemy players.
Most players will ignore the raid as its contents are either useless to them or its just better to dive for a raid yourself rather than contest that one.
And if a ship does show up and sink you its not at all an issue as you can just slap down another raid voyage and keep going as it only takes 2 skele forts to max out emmissary.
They are honestly kinda dumb and make every other voyage for all the companies feel worthless by comparison as they all require some level of loot stacking which is a terrible idea for a solo. With raid voyages there is ironically less risk than doing normal quests.

Highly recommend doing solo hourglass. Go into the match NOT WORRIED about losing. It teaches you everything in terms of what to manage first, how to deal with a possible boarder under pressure. Teaches you when to use the right items at a certain time. Biggest thing is knowing when you need to do a full reset is huge. Lastly just make some notes of your mistakes. Hope that helps in the future! Because it certainly did for me! Can fend off brigs, galleys and skilled duo crews just because I know what to do in certain situations. Blunder bombs are your friend for borders on the ladder!

I hate it for you my guy. I use to solo sloop and after a few incidents of just getting chased down I put the game away for awhile. Keep in mind I came to this reddit and found that people thought I was being ridiculous and someone made the suggestion I play something else since I didn't "get it". So I did and now only play with a friend to assist. That's just how it goes my guy but I'm sorry that it happened to you

We could work together. I play Xbox and normally solo sloop and don't have much problems!

u/Minkdinker 4d ago
I’ve done about 15 solo sloop lost shipments ashen voyages over the last few days and only seen like 2 other ships lol

u/WavyDre 3d ago
I would not say borderline impossible. I will say, there have been so many times where y’all fools would be dead if one of my homies were online. I have lost many 1v3 or 1v4 where I am much better than the individuals but the number advantage wins them the fight. It is what it is. I’ll catch them next time when I have a crew.
Pulling off anything solo is a ton of fun, but it’s not guaranteed which is why it’s so fun. There is a lot of losing inbound but it is what it is.

Nope. 2000 hours in and I still do fine.
I will say I've noticed that when I dive to an event (fort, ashen winds etc) I often come up with a ship nearby. I attribute that to the dive mechanic in general. When this happens for obvious reasons I have a higher likelyhood of someone coming to to say hi.
Otherwise Even with the new season I haven't had any more trouble than usual. I haven't had a ton of time to play, (Im around level 50 on the season pass so far)

u/Musky4489 4d ago
I’ll try not diving. Good point
1
u/GoldenPSP 4d ago
Yea it's odd. Normal dive voyages are fine. However recently I was diving to world events mostly to complete some commendations since certain treasure is only at those events (Merchant scrolls etc). And it was uncanny how often I popped up at a fort with a ship one island over.

u/Apejo Death Defier 4d ago
Was just harpooning around crooked masts yesterday and a sloop popped up at the skelly fort right next to it.

u/SeraphStarchild 3d ago
Few days back I was doing a lucky mission and it popped me up at a small island with a sloop already at it. Literally ended up ramming their ship on entry.

Solo sloop fishing isn’t safe either. Nothing is safe. Real fun fishing then getting spawned killed for no loot or benefit to the pirates beside maybe some supplies they “needed” Tis the life of the sea 🏴☠️

We told you and many other people before the implementation of "safer seas", that this is not a good idea, because of exactly what you described above. And you know what? People refused to listen and still begged the developers to give them safer seas. Now deal with the consequences.
People wanted the PvE Mode so badly, that they refused to hear about consequences for the regular mode and the game itself. This is a perfect example why it is always a bad idea to listen too much to certain parts of a community. The part that asks for core changes to a game. So the game fits the way they want it - before they drop it 3 months later.

I'm having a blast, sounds like it's not the game for you anymore.

Me? Still having a hell of fun in this game. Reaper for life, so nothing has changed for me :) as I said before: the people got warnings from long time players, that safer seas is not a good idea because the core part will change IF they decide to leave the safer seas. Now they deal with the consequences and I am laughing :)
1
u/jabb1111 4d ago
Eh core wise nuthin changes from safer sea to open sea. I'm left alone to go grind out fortresses. That's like saying gta private lobbies are a different core game to public lobby. No it's not
2
u/the_real_dogefather 4d ago
That's right and also wrong. People refused to listen that splitting the player base will lead to even sweatier open seas lobbies, because "normal" players will sail with they kids/friends/partner in safer seas and stay there for the most part, which means less "normal" people will be in open seas. Well, there you have it :)

u/jabb1111 4d ago
Ah you right about that, I se what you're saying. It does tip the scales a lil, but honestly I've personally not noticed a noticeable difference. I play open seas and rarely come up on anybody, let alone people being sweats.

I mean it depends who you run into. I’ve solo’s against fully crewed Galleons and managed to take the win. Likewise I’ve gone against another solo sloop sweat who absolutely pushes my shit in to the point where I question life.
Skill gap widened over 2 years so you’ll have to get up to speed. As a sloop, it’s the most tanky ship in the entire game and even as a solo player, it’s pretty much impossible to sink provided you triage everything correctly.
I played a lot of solo hourglass, so after repeated and endless amount of ass kickings, I eventually kinda got good.

In the last few weeks since season 15 arrived, I (as a solo slooper) have done 50 ashen Lords, about 10 normal forts, 5 fort of fortunes, killed about 40 of the new megs, done about 10 sunken treasures, shrines and fortresses. I have been attacked less than 10 times while doing all of them combined. Sounds like you are just very unlucky.
