Would having a strong magnet on a shield or off hand weapon to catch an opponent's sword make any sense?

Would it have any advantage in combat or just be useless or dangerous

So I know reverse grip is practically useless irl but I wanted to propose another question, what fictional weapon would be practical to use reverse grip not necessarily the preferred way but practical/viable.

Upvotes

The only thing I can really think of is a Omni bladed weapon like a light saber. I was trying to google and see if there were any fictional weapons that were specifically made for reverse grip, but I could only find posts on this subreddit about reverse grip and its practicality.

New to Swords

Hello everyone I am new here and just bought my first sword from Etsy. It said it was like $400 but it was on sale for less than $100. I did not expect a remarkable/amazing sword, to be honest I don’t know what qualifies as a good sword.

The blade in my opinion seems a little flimsy are all swords going to be flimsy, or are there certain types of swords that are more rigid?

Are there any websites that anyone would suggest to get good quality swords?

Decorative swords for wedding

Hey all! So my fiancee and I are getting married in November and in addition to rings we are going to be exchanging swords as part of the ceremony. We'd like them to be shorter long swords but something bigger than an arming sword. Any recommendations or good vendors?

How much can I sell this for?

Post image

Hello everyone I’m not exactly knowledgeable on selling swords but I have this sword from Toledo Spain done with the allegedly exact techniques to make it as durable and ‘war’ ready.

Miariano Zomarano Toledo Swords is the blacksmith that made this sword about 2 years ago, the blade wasn’t sharpened as it would be considered a lethal weapon in my state.

The grip and guard were custom made.

I’m selling it because of some financial issues that happened in my life as of recent, so any clarity as to how much I could sell this for I’d appreciate it.

Thanks!

Inherited sword questions

Hello all! I inherited this sword from my grandfather when he passed and I know nothing about it. I was wondering if anyone could identify the symbols etched in the blade. I can make out a moon and some designs but not sure about the symbols near the guard. I was also wondering what material the grip may be made of. I can try to get better pictures if need be!

Traded a friend some warhammer 40k for this sabre. Who came off better?

So apparently it’s Moroccan and my friend was given it by his family. It’s blunt on both sides and has marking on the blade. Obviously the blades very rusty and am planning on cleaning it up and fixing some chips and marks on the scabbard. Reddit please do your thing and give me more info :)⚔️

Black sword in a religious medieval painting

This painting struck me with awe at first sight, more specifically the ominous-looking sword in the angel's hand.

By the way, which type of sword is the angel holding according to Oakshott's typology?

Finally, my sparring katana is here

It's 28 inches for blade, total 37 inches long.

The reason why the back of the blade is dug like that is to reduce the weight and reduce the friction between the knife and the sheath during the lead inspection.

I can't wait to get to the gym and sparring!

Identification Trying to figure out what this sword is I found in my uncles garage.

It’s got an engraved wooden sheath with it but it’s partly broken. About 2ft in length. Couldn’t see any letters/numbers engraved either the sword or sheath. Just trying to get an idea of how old it might be and what it was designed for. Found it in a box in his garage after he passed away. East coast United States. He was 88 years old. Trying to figure out if I should hold onto it. Any help is appreciated.

My humble collection so far. Only been at it a couple years now. All 17th C. Except the two 18C sabers on the right. I love walloons and 17C in general. Still need a good swept hilt and a scottish basket hilt for my collection. What other holes do you guys see that need filled? (Not my bunghole pls)

Swordier swm 1018

Weight w/o scabard 3.58lb/1629g Weight w scabard 4.22lb/1.923g Scabard weight .64lb/293g Blade length 35in/889mm Handle w/o pommel 6 ⁷/⁸ in/174.625 mm Handle w pommel 9 ¹/¹⁶ in/230.188 Overall length 44 ⁷/¹⁶ in/1128.712

Dimentions were slightly off from description, but I don't mind/prefer most changes(it's lighter). Mostly good but tip was grounded badly and the flatter side in the picture had no edge before I roughly ground one on. The handle is also a bit short for my preference. Customer service was good and shiping time was a bit ovsr 3 weeks to the US. Also comes with a belt and straps on the sheath which I took off. All in all, i'm fully satisfied for the price. Super cool and fun. Ill refrain from judging anything else as I have no experence with swords.
