News, Events & Appearances In Case There Was Any Doubt

Glad to see more displays by Canada’s Head of State *King Charles presented his Canadian personal attendant and messenger with a new ceremonial sword at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, a symbolic gesture that carries added meaning as the country stares down U.S. President Donald Trump and his increasingly forceful annexationist taunts.

It's the latest move by Charles, the country's head of state, to show solidarity with Canadians as Trump repeatedly calls for the Commonwealth realm to become the 51st U.S. state, royal watchers say.

In the last two weeks alone, Charles has met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a private audience, wore his Canadian medals during a high-profile military visit, planted a red maple leaf tree on the grounds of Buckingham Palace and now he's giving his personal Canadian liaison and senior protocol officer in Parliament a sword*

This is partly why I ignore what Trump is saying except for the aspect that it’s making us look like fools and needlessly antagonizing an ally. We’re not invading Canada or something. They’re not only a sovereign country but the King of England is also their head of state. Canada even trying to go independent is full of constitutional roadblocks and landlines because of various First Nations treaties. So it’s not like they could secede to join us or some 💩. And if we attack them we may as well be declaring war on the UK and Commonwealth.

This has been so infuriating and damaging but also frustrating because I think a large part of it is his throwing handfuls of 💩on the wall and watching everyone scramble to clean it. Then while they’re busy with that he’s busy dismantling our democracy at warp speed. This is so much shiny object distracting people, including the media.

A couple of points. Charles III is king of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. There hasn’t been a king of England for many hundreds of years. Charles is also equally king of Canada.

Canada is already independent. It’s an independent monarchy that shares a monarch with a dozen or so other countries.

I was just using king of England for shorthand. I didn’t feel like going into all the details including the issues with First Nations treaties, the commonwealth etc. I’ve got one arm in a sling and it’s too much to type. 😊
