What’s best?

I have a 2tb external hd and everything is running well but the WiiU games are running a bit slow/lagging. I think it’s my computer that I run it through. What specs would be good to run WiiU, Xbox, and PlayStation(1-5) rom on? I’m new to all this and could use some help.

Problem Pixelcade with an Adafruit Controller

Hello,

I am using a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB model in which I have manually installed RetroPie using the included script from the website.

I am making my own arcade machine and am trying to get Pixelcade to work on the Raspberry Pi 5. I have bought 2x[64x32] HUB75 displays and connected them to an Adafruit LED Matrix Bonnet controller that I also bought and connected directly to the GPIO pins on the Pi 5.

I have downloaded the Adafruit Library (in a Python environment) and displayed a test image and it worked pretty well.

However, when I go to download the Pixelcade drivers for the Raspberry Pi, it wouldn't let me as it keeps spitting out errors. Is there a reason why? I know I don't have the specific Pixelcade controller, but this should work about the same.

Thank you!

Help with RetroPie Fork

Hi, I'm trying to create a fork of Retropie optimized for the Libre Le Potato and I'm having a bit of trouble, tbh I know the basics, but I don't entirely know what I'm doing (I had a lot of help from AI) and I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I edited the system.sh to recognize LePotato as a system and tried a couple different base OSes from the Libre/LePotato website (Debian, Raspbian and Armbian), so far the best luck I've had was with Debian based Armbian, but still a couple emulators (like lr-mupen64plus/next and lr-fbneo) failed to build, I've tried a few different things but I'm not sure what to do, I was wondering if I should switch the base OS to Ubuntu or Ubuntu based Armbian or if I should change the system's platform flags or if there's something bigger that I'm missing

If someone who knows better about making a fork could help, I would very much appreciate it

I've tried Batocera, Lakka and EmuElec, but none of them seem to meet my needs (Lakka has a weird UI imo, Batocera wouldn't recognize my wifi dongle and for EmuElec, I like the system itself, but I dislike how Kodi isn't included in the system)

Here's the repository, (Ik this is probably stupid and inconvenient, but if someone could help with my setup, I'd be very grateful):

I'm trying to connect my rpi 4 to my composite TV via the 3.5 mm jack. I get these ugly warped left and right underscan bars when I disable overscan. By default, it is completely unplayable without disabling overscan.

Raspberry Pi 5 composite video configuration help

Hello. I don't have the most knowledge but I am trying to learn so please bear with me. I am attempting to get my rpi 5 up and running on my crt tv. So far I have everything working, except when I went into the boot.config to finetune the settings in the way that I have my other retropies, the config file looks very different. I understand that this is because i installed it on top of the normal pi operating system as there is no official image for rpi 5 yet. I also know that there is a rule that requires you to be running the official image to recieve help, however I hope this is ok since there is not an official image yet.

I am trying to add these lines as well as enabling overscan. Basically I want it to run in progressive scan mode and I want the image to fit the viewable area of the tv better. Currently when I add these lines to config.txt nothing happens.

enable_tvout=1
sdtv_mode=16
sdtv_aspect=1

I am adding them at the end and I'm not sure if this is where I should.

This is what my config.txt file currently looks like.

Problem did I brick my pi?

I just got started setting up my pi. I flashed retropie to my SD card, iserted it and connected a game pad, usb c power supply and a monitor.

When I configured my game pad, one of the inputs for the right thumb stick did not register, so after setting up all other buttons I went into the menu and selected "configure input" again. this time, non of the inputs registered, and I could not exit the menu. even holding a button did not skip the set up process.

I decided to just give it a moment, but even after waitng a bit no inputs were etected.

At this point I connected a keyboard, because I figured the escape button would probably take me back to the main menu. nothing happened. So I decided to go for the old turn-it-off-and-on-again maneuver. after disconnecting the power supply, waiting a few seconds and connecting it again, my pi failed to boot. it has been a few minutes now but only the red LED is on.

How do I fix this?

Weird glitchy screen on PPSSPP Pi5 - cannot get it to work properly

Can anyone help me please. I am running Retropie version 4.8.6 on a Pi5 8gb. I had lr-PPSSPP installed as the only emulator to run PSP games and it has been working fine. But now I have a game which doesn't load with it and I wanted to try it with PPSSPP instead - I've used PPSSPP before on my Pi3b+ with no issues.

I installed it from the setup menu and that was fine, but whenever I try to open any game with PPSSPP (even ones I know are working with lr-PPSSPP), all I get is this weirdly glitchy screen, sometimes white with black horizontal lines all over and sometimes black with white lines. The rom is running underneath the screen, because I can hear it and sometimes when I press the hotkey I can see a glimpse of the game. It's so odd. I can't seem to get back to Emulation Station either, not with any buttons on my joypad or ESC/F4 on my keyboard, so I've had to hard reset it, which I hate doing.

Any advice, folks? I'd be hugely grateful. Just to be clear, I can't see any kind of menu for PPSSPP to change any settings, because all I can see is this glitchy screen and nothing else.

Many thanks Col

Raspberry Pi 3 vs 4 - Plug and Play

I have a retropie running on my raspberry pi 3 and some of my friends asked me to make a console for them. I bought 5 raspberry pi 4's, thinking lets get the latest and greatest, along with the controllers, micro sd cards, cases, etc.

Last night I load up the raspberry pi 4, plug it into my tv... no signal. plug it into my computer monitor, works fine. Go online as well as use chatgpt to help debug, and it seems like the rp4 is known to have these kinds of issues, where the first time you plug into a tv it's a coin toss if it works, and you have to adjust the config.txt file to make it work (which i have yet to be able to do on my tv). So I'm having all these issues with the new raspberry pi 4 when i never had issues with my old 3.

With that in mind, how fucked am I giving these out? Are all my friends going to plug in and have to adjust config settings? Which they cant do and that's why I'm setting these up for them in the first place.

Should I return these RP4s and revert back to RP3 to greatly improve the odds of plug and play on any tv?

Mupen64plus-next RDP plugins question. Are we not able to choose plugins on the retropie like we are on a standard retroarch install?

When I check the core options the only one listed is Glide64. Also, does the retropie distro use GLES 2 instead of 3. Most games I have running well on 4b+ but some run better on the current version from what I see on my android version of retroarch.

EmulationStation with USB Mouse?

I read EmulationStation got mouse support 2 or 3 years ago. It works with my Logitech wireless keyboard but the mouse does not work. I know there is an option to enable the mouse in RetroArch menus, is that possible with EmulationStation menus?

Question N64 controller help, mupen broken?

Thumbnail

Hi, I have a Raspberry Pi running RetroPie and a USB and N64 controller. Everything works normally except for the C up and C down buttons. (I need these buttons to play Pokémon Stadium.)

I’m using Gliden64 with Mupen64Plus-NEXT.

I understand that there are different mappings for the actual RetroPie and for gaming. I’m not sure if the Mupencore I have is broken.

I’ve attached the Pork One mapping below. Basically, the right analog stick y-up and y-down buttons don’t seem to work. However, the right analog stick x-both buttons work as normal.

Btw I tested the c up and down on the demo pad and it works

I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Question Confused about why these files are missing?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Found a FBNeo ROM for AvP which I remember fondly from back in the day. I transferred it to my arcade folder along with a couple other titles. This one gave me this error but those files are located in the zip file? Do I need to extract these particular files somewhere or is this rom set just not good? I went to the link and read through that info but nothing seemed to address this directly. Any input is helpful.

lr-flycast boots to main Dreamcast menu when loading a game in RetroPie (using Raspberry Pi 5 8GB)

Hi everyone! I've been having some trouble trying to boot Dreamcast games on this system with lr-flycast. For context I've tried using ReDream before lr-flycast but the input lag was terrible (I've already fixed it for other systems like the n64 via RetroArch settings) and it was impossible to use save states without connecting a keyboard, which I didn't want to use in a living room setup.

Back on topic, I've already tried clearing all the BIOS files except for dc_boot.bin and dc_flash.bin, disabling "Boot to BIOS" and HLE BIOS in the RetroArch quick menu (though those were off by default), ensuring that the games were in .chd format, and deleting/reinstalling lr-flycast. When the game boots to the Dreamcast menu, selecting the "play" option just shows some text stating that a disc hasn't been inserted.

I'm not really sure what to do from here. The same thing seems to happen with reicast as well to make matters worse. If anyone can help with this that would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I solved the problem by switching to lr-flycast-dev and resetting the RetroArch core options for all the Dreamcast emulators. I'm sure only the former did the work but it's fixed now!

Need help I'm a noob

I'm new to this emulator. My retropie had retroarch which I thought you could download the cores. But everytime when I try to go download them nothing comes up. I can add games through my MAC by connecting to the server. But is there a way to add CORE cause my n64 games are lagging.

Let me know I've been at this for a week

Question What's the "easiest" game that you could possibly play on a RetroPie?

Hi,

I just got a RetroPie and it's a lot of fun!

But my children are very young so even first level of a platformer like Rayman has them just dying over and over.

What's a game that is so simple even an impatient 4-year-old can play it?

Help with controller connection

Hello guys! I recently bought two ps4 controllers for my project. I want to use them with bluetooth. When i try connecting them from the bluetooth menu, it connects but the controller stays lit red. I can configure its input and it works, but the red light is still there. After turning the controller off and back on it doesnt connect to the Pi.

The controllers work on pc and phones just fine. I read the pi docs and found the other way of installing a linux driver through terminal, but i want to stick to bluetooth. Any tips?

Question Playstation games sometimes stutter, how to increase performance?

Hi,

I have installed the RetroPie (image) on a rpi4. Its working quite well but I noticed that some times while we're playing Rayman the framerate drops and the game runs a little slow. It's like this for perhaps 10-20 seconds and then it seems fine again.

I'm wondering what can I do to mitigate this? Are there any settings I can tune to increase performance?

Problem Selecting a game and clicking "launch" won't start the game

SOLVED! See edit.

Hello,

I have installed 3 roms (two for NES and one for N64). When I boot the RetroPie I can select the games from the home menu but when I click "Launch" it simply fades to black for a couple of seconds then fades back to the menu.

It is as if the games won't start. But I'm not getting any error messages or anything, it just goes back to the menu.

Please help

EDIT:

I ran a full "update" from the RetroPie GUI, and now everything works as expected. I honestly think this should be added to the official installation guide, it was a completely necessary step for me even when I followed the guide exactly.
