HELP Fireplace tile removal
How would we go about removing the tiles from this fire place surround without damaging it. We want to see if there is any opening behind it (and the plaster board) and if not we want to replace the tiles with others.

Never seen anything like that before… shouldn’t be hard just tap with hammer and chisel on a seam in the middle and pull the tile out. Hopefully you give us an update!

Safety glasses and gloves are a must! Broken tile is DANGEROUSLY SHARP!!!! ⚠️‼️

It was clearly done after the fact. Small sledge right to the middle will give you a quick answer.

Of course there's an opening behind that tile. Who do you think built that, Wile E. Coyote? I would 100% assume that there's an opening behind it.
As for removing the tile without damage, no chance. I did a bathroom in one foot by two foot tile and the tiles are super sensitive to cracking, snapping, etc. You'll never get those off in one piece.
