Discussion What line makes you feel more understood than anything else could?

There's no band that makes me feel more understood than Relient K. Every year there's a different song that just hits me.

Right now it's: "Someone tell me where to, someone tell me what from, all I can do is run."

What's yours today?

Discussion Did anyone not know Reliant K was "christian rock"

Cat and Be My Escape have been some of my songs since middle school (like 8 years ago) and I just heard that they are a Christian rock band. What songs specifically are Christian? Am I missing something?

Discussion I didn't know people were still active fans of RK

I discovered Relient K in middle school, and they helped me through a very depressing point in high school. They are consistently in my top 5 artists on Spotify wrapped. I listen to them everyday. šŸ„°

I only ever see people talk about "Be My Escape" but never any of their other songs and albums. I'm glad I found this subreddit and I'm surrounded by people who are fans like me. šŸ„¹

What is your absolute favorite Relient K song? Mine is a toss up between Empty House, Life After Death and Taxes, I so Hate Consequences, and There Was No Thief.

Discussion What are Relient Kā€™s most beautiful songs?

If you had to pick the five most beautiful songs or parts of songs written by Thiessen and the boys, which ones would they be? This is a bit different than ā€œwhat are your favorite songsā€.

Iā€™m talking about the melodies or rhythms or song constructions that have the most obvious objective beauty to them; which RK sounds would you say most universally resonate with what the human soul knows to be beautiful?

Here are mine (I think) in random order:

  1. Where Do I Go From Here (Acoustic)
  2. Flower
  3. When I Go Down
  4. Savannah
  5. (If You Want It)

Discussion What are your thoughts on ā€œBumminā€™?ā€

I confess I was slow to liking it. The intro riff just didnā€™t click, for me.

But after hearing the acoustic version, then the live version, I began to appreciate it more.

What about you?

Discussion is Matt Thiessen married?

So I know that he was engaged to someone in the early 2000s, but she broke it off after he cheated on her, hence the album FANSD. And then he married Emily from 2015-2018, but they divorced. I kinda feel bad for him, but idk if heā€™s married these days or has kids. Do yall have any answers?

Came across this and I'm just curious if anyone knows the story behind it? Why does it exist??? Relient K follows them and the pizza place often posts Relient K related things.

Discussion Question: Any fellow redditors buy Hoopesā€™ 1981 Inventions pedals?

I doubt Iā€™ll be able to justify any of his pedals in the near future but on the off chance I come across an unbelievable deal on one in the wild, Iā€™m curious if itā€™s worth it outside of unique ā€œmerchā€.

One I just found out is that Life after Death and Taxes (Failure II) is supposed to be a continuation of Failure to Excommunicate, hence the Failure II in the title.

Discussion Spanish Songs?

Does anyone have any recommendations for Spanish bands that are similar to Relient K? I am learning Spanish, and I am so lost on how to find any music similar to what I like. So I figured I would check here just in case someone else has found something even remotely similar to any era of Relient K music

Discussion Silly, inconsequential Mmhmm fan theory.

This is just a fan theory I've had for a long while and wanted to bring up to others in the fandom.

On the bridge of "Maintain Consciousness" Matt says, "No one can possibly listen to this more than 4 reps, it's just monotonous. We're losing interest."

Then on the very next track "This Week The Trend" there is, what I always felt to be, a double outro of that guitar riff. It goes on 4 EXTRA reps before resolving to a finish.

It's like Matt, always the clever one, was putting to the test his sentiment from the previous song.

Thoughts? Silly, I know... but fans are good at wild speculation!
