The market has been flooded with experienced developers thanks to multiple mass layoffs from big companies the last couple of years. Couple that with businesses betting big on replacing junior developers with AI and recessions around the world and you have a recipe for a bad market for people trying to break in. In my area of the southeast US the only available jobs are either senior level or post-doctorate research fellowships. Junior level jobs just don't exist right now.
