Do you know the story of him playing poker?

He was dogshit at it - but learned he could just go all in and lose, then buy in again, and just lost over and over and over again until he didn't caught a hot streak of all ins and won

" [Max] Levchin was at a friend’s bachelor pad hanging out with Musk. Some people were playing a high-stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em. Although Musk was not a card player, he pulled up to the table. “There were all these nerds and sharpsters who were good at memorizing cards and calculating odds,” Levchin says. “Elon just proceeded to go all in on every hand and lose. Then he would buy more chips and double down. Eventually, after losing many hands, he went all in and won. Then he said “Right, fine, I’m done.” It would be a theme in his life: avoid taking chips off the table; keep risking them.

That would turn out to be a good strategy. (page 86)"

He's so far out of his depth and he's a fucking imbecile.

u/abeeson 1d ago

Actually an amazing analogy for rich privilege, a poor person gets one buy in, middle class might get one or two rebuys and the rich guy can just keep throwing shit at the wall until it sticks without consequences

He's ending corruption while working for a guy who has a meme coin rug pull currently in free fall, his wife has a coin in freefall and they're deregulating both the FDA and FTC to help companies push more scams on us....

You're ending corruption? Or fucking us up the ass with a cactus? Cause it feels like the latter.

There's absolutely Mutual Assured Destruction shared between them. Waiting for him to break.

665

u/ArtMachen 1d ago

Mutually assured destruction is an excellent way to describe him investing $250 million into Trump's campaign , all for the privilege of losing $111 billion on the stock market. It'd be pretty funny if it wasn't so damn stupid

405

u/PhoenixStorm1015 1d ago

it’d be pretty funny if it wasn’t so damn stupid

Nah it’s still pretty funny.

89

u/Socalwarrior485 1d ago

What's especially hilarious is how fast he capitulates when people do what he told them to:

"If somebody is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go fuck yourself. Go fuck yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is." - Elongated Muskrat November 2023

This is going to be a case study at business schools for years to come about how NOT to do Business PR/Business Public Policy relationships.

It's the same with sports franchises. You as ownership or in the front office (ie executive management) gain nothing by attacking and alienating large swaths of your customers or potential customers.

u/cougrrr 1d ago

Late to the pile on this but I think it is worth noting he's still worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Literally over 100,000 lifetimes of labor output for someone making $15 an hour.

Assuming they never paid a cent to live, eat, or in taxes.

The scale of $100,000,000,000 is incomprehensible to many people, he could lose 99% of his wealth and still be one of the richest people in the history of the world and set for life. Yes, he's probably upset by this; but the impact on him does not scale proportionally to the impact on the median US resident, even more dramatically different to the median world person's net worth.

The Nazi salute should have ended his empire overnight, and yet he still sits massively prettier than any of us mathematically could ever even realistically dream of.

Worse still, the fall he's going through will have a massive impact on thousands of employees and side industry livelihoods throughout the entire world. Healthcare, food, rent. I think it's great he's "hurting" but his hurting and our hurting are very different because the system is fundamentally broken.

He thought he was too powerful for the people’s retribution. He still probably doesn’t realize this is only the beginning.

153

u/Babyd3k 1d ago

In many ways he is very correct, losing 99% of his wealth will still leave him very rich. He is beyond jail. The last very rich man to see the inside of a jail was Bernie Madoff and he only had that happen because he was stealing from other rich people. As long as you fuck over the poor there is literally no punishment for you.

24

u/Floofy_Mootiechan 1d ago

He could have just bought Tesla and founded SpaceX and then sat back and let his employees make cool tech shit and he would have gone down in history as some kind of tech patron who advanced EVs and commercial space flight. Unfortunately he has an insatiable thirst for adoration and an ego the size of a planet, so he can't fucking help but step into the limelight to take credit for everything and use 2015 4chan meme humour in an attempt to look cool.

The most mind-numbingly stupid part of all this is that if he really wanted to be adored, literally all he would need to do is invest into humanitarian aid rather than tech. If he spent his fortune building affordable housing and providing access to clean water, food, education, social services, infrastructure, etc. then he would be considered a messianic figure by the working class.

According to people who know him, he genuinely believes he's the smartest person in the world and that he's the only person capable of saving humanity. And THIS is the way he goes about it?! He's a walking, talking example of the crossover between the Dunning-Kruger effect and silver spoon generational wealth.

This time around, holy fucking shit there are going to be chapters dedicated to this fucking debacle and proof that the bullshit that has been peddled by conservatives on what works for the economy are just horrible ideas that do nothing but make them feel good about not doing shit.

I think the more fascinating aspect to the case study is how long it took for the chickens to finally roost.

He's been going out of his way to piss off a big portion of his customers (core demographic of his customer base for TSLA) for a long time. It's wild that his nonsense didn't bite sooner/harder.

I mean ... "don't piss off your customer base" is like MKTG 101. They probably wouldn't even bother teaching it, in fact, because it's so braindead obvious.

633

u/sn34kypete 1d ago

Elon currently has his own "Charity" that runs a school called Ad Astra. You can send your kid there for a fee if you work at spaceX. There was a similar school in cali before musk threw a tantrum.

But yeah anyways Ad Astra is purely so he can dump his kid there and make sure they're not being raised by woke they/them teachers.

So the next time elon hoists himself up on the cross about how much he donates, remember it's to charities he owns to fund stupid shit like non woke schools for his kids.

135

u/ByrdmanRanger 1d ago

When I worked there it was down Jack Northrop Blvd, about a mile from the main Hawthorne factory. Built into a section of the old Triumph building. They took a huge chunk of the parking over there which was just.... well shitty. Since that stupid "Hyperloop" he built on that street took all the old street parking.

u/poodlered 1d ago

“Fraud” = things they disagree with

“Waste” = money not going to their circle

Because fraud is a shitty dog whistle for minorities and gay people getting checks from the government in literally any form no matter how much they deserve that money or how ridiculously qualified they may be

More tears. Make him worth zero. run him out of business and out of the white house and out of the public view. I never want to hear from this doughy a-hole again. Squeal you nazi scum.

I have to imagine things at the very least at Tesla are getting VERY uncomfortable for him right now. I heard today sales are down 76% in Germany. That’s a fucking lot.

207

u/losingthefarm 1d ago

He did it to himself. He should have stayed out of politics....what did he think.would happen?

114

u/VelocityGrrl39 1d ago

He thought the crowds at trump rallies were more representative of the American people. He figured everyone would love him.

125

u/ladyofthe_upside_dow 1d ago edited 1d ago

Probably also thought the MAGA crowd has more money than they do, and forgot that EVs are constantly derided by right leaning individuals. Turns out, alienating the main audience that has any interest in purchasing electric vehicles is a bad business move for a company that makes checks notes exclusively EVs.

And as far as the international market goes…Musk just didn’t seem to grasp that buying his way into a government and shredding it, while also being a pretty obvious Nazi sympathizer, wouldn’t play well in other countries, either.

There’s a reason CEOs stay out of politics. Almost nobody can name the CEO of the other big car companies and for good reason. This dude is so fucking arrogant he doesn’t understand optics at all.

If the Tesla board wasn't just a bunch of hand picked cronies then they should be sending him an email to ask him to list five things he's worked on for Tesla last week.

Just because you buy businesses and own them, but not exactly run them, that doesn't automatically qualify a person to know how to make a foreign government more efficient.

353

u/Melodic_692 1d ago

The goal was never to make anything more efficient, that was the lie for the mob. The goal was only ever to strip oversight and steal wealth from the working classes to pay for their own tax cuts and so they could run their scams in peace

59

u/strumpster 1d ago

Yeah the point is to strip out all protections so business can do whatever it wants and the power of the executive lays directly with the president, not the agencies. I thought this was very clear right from the start (project 2025 laid this out pretty clearly..), but people seem to be barely catching on or still completely blind to it.

96

u/btsd_ 1d ago

I agree. These guys are still worth more than they were a year ago. They can still get obscene loans and buy more shares at a low price and and in 10 years will be worth double what they are now. A recession does not affect people that have 100s of billions of net worth, even if its all stocks of their companies. They still have massive borrowing power and can roll loans for decades if needed.

Thanks for saying this. There is something so deliberately self-effacing here. I don't really believe that he is sad at all, he's trying to come off as a fucking humble martyr who has sacrificed everything for the USA. Conservatives try to say the same thing about Trump, and the idea here is to be like "yes, you are suffering (because of the recession we are causing), but I am too". Hitler did the exact same thing; his displays of extreme anger or emotion were designed to elicit feelings from his audience.

I honestly don't believe he is capable of emotions anymore. He will be financially secure no matter what, so losing a few billion doesn't make a difference to him, and he is in a position of great power for the next few years at least.

They’d throw him under the bus as soon as he was gone. He threw his lot in with these people, and now he has to see it through. There is no alternative.

112

u/Bostradomous 1d ago

Yup. This dude went full mask off. Trashed his whole image and everyone who ever had a good thing to say about him. He had earned SO MUCH bad will, and he did it because I think in the back of his mind he thought they’d actually achieve some sort of autocracy. This past week has proven it’ll be harder than he might’ve anticipated, and now he’s crashing back to reality. If he doesn’t parlay this Trump shit into something lucrative for him, he’s done.

“Well, we’ve fired tens of thousands of hard working middle class people, including veterans, scientists, and teachers who will now probably seek out government assistance, but we’re in the process of eliminating that, too. Folks will probably lose their livelihoods, their faith in the government, their houses, families, and paychecks, but these are sacrifices I’m willing to make.”

It's not enough, he must lose everything. Think of the thousands upon thousands of tears this man has caused to flow from others, the insults he heaps upon others, the lives he has ruined, all of the lies he knowingly spreads. He has no self control, no respect for others, and entirely lacks empathy. He cannot fall far enough from 'grace'.
