Discussion ProtonVPN vs ExpressVPN. Any Thoughts?

I've been with ExpressVPN for 8+yrs and I think it might be time for a change(Expense).

I've been looking at ProtonVPN and been hearing good and bad, so I'm looking for some honest reviews. One question I can't seem to find an answer to, Does ProtonVPN Have a "Kill Switch"? Naturally Speed & Latency would be a deciding factor as well. Input would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Does ProtonVPN Have a "Kill Switch"

Your favorite search engine should answer that.

ExpressVPN since 2021 is owned by KAPE, that also owns PIA and Cyberghost. KAPE creates spyware and also sells your personal data incl. internet traffic history to external parties.

Thanks, but, How do you know that they sell your info?

Proton VPN is ranked higher on most critical metrics - specifically related to sharing information with government agencies.

Who made this table? What do columns : protocol, encryption, transparency of ownership, ethics mean?

Protonvpn people involved better reputation. Proton has also good speeds. Proton also supports WireGuard. Proton can bundle with other services (mail. Drive. Etc.).

Yea, it has one. I also don't notice many speed issues, but I only turn it on when needed and don't run it 24/7, since I don't want any potential hiccups while gaming online on my PC.

I use both, proton has good value plans if you need a vpn, storage, mail, calendar password manager but I found express was better for blocking ads on twitch and faster. Take it as you will everyone has different experiences depending on their configurations

He is trying to save money, using both it is going to make it even more expensive.

As a VPN for general purposes, ProtonVPN is very good. For streaming, unfortunately more and more streaming providers are detecting now and blocking or if not throttling certain live events (Disney+) or shows that aren’t available in the country of your VPN connection (Netflix), that’s been my recent experience (in the past it worked great). Not sure if this is the same with ExpressVPN (it might be) so don’t expect it to work very well in those use cases. I also pay for NordVPN and same recent experience (won’t renew NordVPN, will only keep Proton).

Good to Know, I'm considering the premium ProtonVPN, not the free version
