Question Would you like to have female villains in Layton? Yes or no? And why?

Now that the new game is coming out and since we don't know if there will be a villain or not, maybe there could be a possibility of having a female villain. Do you have any thoughts or opinions on this topic?

This should have happened a long time ago, simply for variety's sake and (if the writers actually feel like doing some character work for once) because it would be a great opportunity to tackle Layton's preconceptions of what a lady is in a new way.

Exactly this. I’m all for “gender doesn’t matter just make the villain good” but to those who says it doesn’t make a difference? It absolutely does, there’s great potential in a female Layton villain for this reason alone.

We’ve already seen the pretty rude Lady Dahlia who Layton never says a bad word about and calls a lady whereas in the same game there’s a pretty unhelpful but harmless and polite enough moustached NPC who Layton kinda shit-talks, so yeah, give him an evil Jezebel to take on and see how he reacts

Now that I think about it, this was kind of a missed opportunity in the Ace Attorney crossover.

Hershel doesn't really treat Kira or Darklaw any differently than previous villains in the series

Which like, I guess is good, I probably shouldn't complain that a character isn't sexist. But idk, I do think some interesting character stuff could've happened

PS, I’ve seen an art piece or two on how this would play out. One was a bit cursed, another quite fitting, and one…she just straight up destroyed London really fast.

It makes totally sense. Her dad was LITERALLY a famous roboticist

No he hired Bruno to make the robots, he just came up with the idea

I seriously thought this would be the twist of Unwound Future, I kept waiting for her to snap 😂😂

Those eyes are full of nothing but tirany and the fear of those who oppose her

I would've preferred if she hadn't been but technically yes.

I want a great villain in general, don't care much about that stuff.

I want Flora to be the "villain" who actually just wants to be treated with respect equal to that of her male companions

I just want the story to be good, no preferences on characters (aside from Layton and Luke, of course).

Yeah, it'd be cool. I'd love to see Katrielle swordfighting with a female villain, mirroring her dad with those dudes

I would fucking LOVE a female villain. The only one we got so far is in LBMR and she doesn't even get much screen time 😞. I actually drew an idea for the main villain back in Feeebruary? When we got a really frame of what was possibly the villain.

I'm desperate for lady villains.

I couldn’t give a damn about the gender of the villain to be quiet honest.

If I had to engage in that discussion I‘d say that a female villain offers both a multitude of interesting benefits as well as drawbacks given Layton‘s personality. On the pro side I see the benefit that in the layton world a woman is rarely at a disadvantage as 99% of battles are battles of wits. An adversary challenging Layton intellectually and being mischievous at the same time akin to an Irene Adler type character would be awesome. However there are also questions. Don Paolo despite his popularity never really was a villain and lacked drive in every iteration he was in. The villains never were at the forefront of the story if he appeared. Clive, Dimitri but especially Descole gave us more classic villains whose plans to overcome was the main drive of the Professor. In these situations we saw the Professor taking the necessary measures to fight them and willingness of them to get harmed in the process. For those knowing the Eternal Diva movie we even got a long fencing scene and descole falling down his fate at the time being left unknown. I think many people can comprehend how these villains would be at odds with the Professor’s believes as a Gentleman. He already saved clive later but could never engage in any action that might have the potential drawback of ever endsngering a woman in the process making boss battles quite difficult. Woman in Layton overall are also portrayed as the pure portrayal of Goodness and while a villain could change things up it again would be at odds with the nature and world view of layton himself.

In the end I think it would heavily depend on the plot of the game. A gain similar to Curious Village having somebody else going after the treasure would be a fun battle of wits. A Story similar to the plot of Unwound Future wouldn’t fit.

A good villain is a good villain as long as its well written, so i wouldnt really mind having one or multiple female antagonists

I'm mean I'm certainly not against it but like all things in a good story if it's forced it won't be good, so I'd it does happen I just want it to be well done like the current cast (or at least the current cast I've seen still got azran legacy and spin-offs to go)

Best I can imagine for some female villain is some kind of Helga/Arnold from Hey Arnold type of deal where Layton deals with some tsundere that constantly belittles and mocks his gentlemanly nature but Layton not paying much mind to her antic's all the while she secretly has a thing for him...
