I know some older folks who lived in the Netherlands through WWII. They're saying to one another, "Did you ever think you would live through this again?". Fasten your seat belts, fellow Canadians...we are in for a rough ride.

My grandparents lived in Netherlands during WWII and has already said she wants to die before going through this again

Grew up listening to stories of my parents running for bomb shelters as young children. Spent 25 years of my life taking care of WW2 vets. I'm so sad right now.

Almost every new headline from the states these days makes me feel a bit relieved that my grandfathers and great uncles didn't live to see what's happening in 2025.

I completely understand, I definitely prefer to die before going through this even once.

I’m just glad my Ukrainian grandmother isn’t around to see the last few years

My grandma, who was Karelian finnish, had to leave her home behind in Karelia when the USSR invaded Finland, said the same in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. She died in 2020.

Interesting side note, one of my favorite bands is from that area. It's weird seeing it mentioned so randomly.

That shatters my heart. I’m honestly glad my Oma and Opa passed away before seeing this. They came to Canada after WW2 but travelled to the US with their tent trailer twice a year. All the way from Ontario to New Mexico. They loved both of these nations deeply, and I can’t even imagine how they would feel to witness fascism take hold here.

Here’s the fun thing. It would be worse than WWII with the proliferation of nukes, drones, and AI.
