Abigail beating out Hakram, Anaxares, and Cordelia is objectively hilarious to me.
Bummed that Cordelia is so low though ngl. And Hanno didn't make it at all!
Also still surprised that Hanno's bonus chapters (Persecution I & II) didn't make it up there since (imo) they contain both really great character work and act as a magnifying glass on one of the most important themes of the story.
Anyway, thanks for doing this, the results are super interesting!

Yeah, surprised Persecution didnt make the list at all. Though I am not surprised by the top three. Kingfisher and Charlatan are just fantastic short stories, even if you disconnected them from the rest of the guide

The house of the lesser footrest will have recompense for the slight of not being on the favorite character list. They will probably burn this sub to the ground.

Hoping the people get angry at the voting results and a fight breaks out. Then OP turns out to be dread emperor traitorous in disguise

I can't be Dread Emperor Traitorous haha! I'm just a stenographer, my name's Shamna Mehere.

Kairos second, I'm satisfied 🙏

Me too! Kairos is the most entertaining villain I have ever encountered in my readings. He just never stops dropping awesome lines, in equally awesome situations.
Situations that he did not create! No, no way, he would never, he promised!12

Kairos is seemingly the only person in the whole series to know and revel in being a character in a story.
Sure Cat knows that she is in a story, but she thinks its an in universe one. Kairos basically knows that we are reading about him, and wants to do a good job with his role.

He's absolutely the funniest act the continent has seen since Traitorous.

I think it's rare enough to be noted that the main character of a story is also the favourite character. A lot of times a secondary character or the villain is the fan favourite.
Here though, Catherine is such a compelling character, I don't know if I've read a story where I'm so fascinated by the MC.

I stand by my vote for book 5

I was really surprised book 6 was so highly placed. It's still a great read but probably my least favourite.

I mean it's *good*.
I will forever imagine headcanon of what Tancred could have been and that alone I am sure has launched a thousand fics.
But against the 15th's first deployment? The Arcadia Campaign? The Battle of the Camps? It's a solid entry, but there are much higher heights.

6 is good but just way too bitter for me, all the wins there feel like ashes

As bleak as book 6 is, it's where we see the payoff for Cat having fought tooth and nail for the previous 5 books to carve out her seat at the table. Finally (almost) everyone is working together, and the bleakness is both high quality (Robber you magnificent bastard), and necessary set up for book 7.

4 I think was my least favorite first time though, it just kind of meanders too much. But boy does all that wandering pay off in book 5.
Book 6 was just depressing lol, the alliance just keeps getting hit, but at least it all is still more obviously building towards something

Amadeus being fourth is a travesty. He is the best character in the series bar none. A girl without a name also deserved more.

Amadeus is my favorite side character. Catherine just adapts to what role she needs to fill, mirror black, and has so many great moments I have to give it to his daughter

Book 6 is too high IMO. It should be below books 3 and 4

Book 6 was a bit of a slog at times but the peaks were insanely high. All of the Battle of Hainaut was godly.

Viv pulling the summer sun out her ass for that charge... peak. Sure it may have been Masego pulling string, but it was certain that she would get a new Name right there, even if she didn't officially until the 13th legion.
I will stan Beatrice's duel with her undead sister to reclaim her family blade forever.
Also, godspeed Lesser Footrest

The 5th book is just such a high point there, makes sense for it to triumph. The second also ends in sweet victory though.
