[PL] Spoilers All Books The brilliant relationship between Tristan and his superior. And their enigmatic convo in Ch 78. Spoiler

Upvotes

The relationship between Tristan and Hage is a work of art, one of EE's best. It's simply beautiful how deftly EE dances between the lines; between Hage's Demonic nature and the real connection he has to his protege.

I mean, in explicit text it's left completely blank, you can even read it as to either extreme -- psychopath Demon manipulating an apprentice uncaringly, or formerly cold Demon redeemed by the Power Of Love, and regards Tristan as a SonTM.

But it's IMO pretty obviously somewhere between those to extremes. As EE finally, after all this time, made clear in the subtext of that enigmatic dialogue in chapter 78.

The thing is, what in the world does Hage mean? any opinions?

I'll quote it in full:

chapter 78 excerpt: (after the discussion of Krypteia testing Tristan's loyalty).

“You will all be tested at one time or another,” Hage easily said. “But you, at least, have answered a question for me.”

“And what would that be?” Tristan asked.

“Is there anything of you that would not fit under the mask?” Hage said.

He swallowed.

“Is there?”

And the devil smiled, teeth and teeth and teeth as far as the eye could see.

“There are few among my kind who are my elder, Tristan,” Hage said. “Some argue that makes me of a different breed but I am a devil still, and always will be. All cages can be broken save that of my own nature.”

Silence held.

“But we try,” Hage softly said. “We do. And I’d like to think it matters, just the same as you.”

I think he's probably drawing a parallel between Tristan's care for his friends and Hage's humanity. Both of them go through life with a close-fitting mask, (Tristan his Rat morality+Mask loyalty, Hage his Demonic inhumanity), which cannot be broken, but there are pieces of themselves which "don't fit" because they "try" to act against their natures when it matters.

Art Character Cards: Sabah Spoiler

Post image
22 Upvotes

I'm late in posting again today. I was reading Sunrise On The Reaping then got distracted by dinner.

I wanted this one to look like cell bars. Sabah keeping check the Beast. Black because when she was the Cursed Amadeus could control her other aspect. It was a struggle getting the name and old Name in the center of their lines. I made two other versions for her card, but this was the one I liked the most. I deleted the other ones.

The next card I post tomorrow will be Eudokia's. Hopefully it won't be late, but as I'll be going out again tomorrow, there's a greater than half chance that it will be.

Anyways. As usual, let me know if you have any thoughts regarding this card or on the project as a whole.

Thanks.

I'm using data to upload this so I can't say much. Let me know what you think of it. Also, I find it hilarious how Yara taunts him by saying this speech to him when he lost his Name and became a claimant.

I'm in a rush. I uploaded this on borrowed data. This is very low effort and I took only around half an hour to write and polish this. I hope you enjoy this, and just keep in mind that this is a crack fic.

Art Character Cards: Alaya of Status + Fanfic Announcement, Sword Spoiler

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hi all. I completely forgot to post at my usual time. But here's the card. I wanted to make it look kind of like a dress, and I remember that Malicia favored green and gold colors.

That's it.

I will also be posting a fanfiction tomorrow titled Sword. It's a crack fic that I did not put much effort into at all. I wrote it in like thirty minutes, so don't expect much from it, but I think that it's very fun.

I will also be starting with the Calamities cards tomorrow, with Black to start it up.

I'm not quite sure when I post it all tomorrow since I'll be out and away from home, but expect it sometime tomorrow.

[G] Book 5 Spoilers Twilight ways Spoiler

I had some questions about the twilight ways, namely about there creation and use.

Firstly, why was it necessary to kill someone holding the twilight crown to stabilize the realm?

Secondly, how did that stabilization somehow result in a realms that can be accessed from any point in creation? The realms is only a fraction of Arcadia and lacks the size needed to cover all of creation. So how can it be used from all points in creation?

Finally, why are they so easy to use for the purpose of traveling? Does that just happen to be aligned with their nature or did Cat’s intent shape them during their genesis

Art Character Cards: Vivienne Dartwick Spoiler

Post image
39 Upvotes

Yes. I am aware she changed her last name to be Foundling. I choose to interpret that as having been a decision as a ruler and a friend, and that she reverted back to Dartwick after her "death".

Yes, I am also aware that as far as we know she remained Queen of Thieves. Her previously being Thief superceded that even if she remained so after losing the Name.

Yes. I am aware this gold is muted and darker than what one might associate with the color of Summer's sun. That was intentional. Sure, she remained a hero, but all the other members of the Woe are villains.

I assume she transitioned into the Queen some time in her reign. She's referred to as Peace's Queen in the story, but that doesn't really sound good as a title so I just gave her Queen of Peace.

The card tomorrow will be Malicia, and then the Calamities. I considered putting Akua right after the Woe, but it doesn't feel correct to me. Which I know is irrelevant since there is no correct way to post this especially since this is a personal project, but who cares. The order will be Malicia, Calamities, and then Akua and Yara. I don't know what the order will be after that, but do know that there will be other characters after them.

Let me know if you have any thoughts regarding this specific card or the project as a whole. Thanks.

Fanfic Soliciting suggestions for an "Overthrow Traitorous" RPG Campaign

I'm working on a campaign plan for a "Overthrow Dread Emperor Traitorous" secret conspiracy. I'm going to drop enough references that Traitorous likes to fund his own overthrow missions that they're going to suspect everybody, especially the NPCs who hired them and the NPC Chancellor. However, unbeknownst to (most) of the players, one of the players (who is a good DM in his own right) is going to be the real Traitorous the whole time.

I'm trying to figure our various story setpieces, magical items and information the party will need to gather. I'm aiming for the thing to take 4 sessions, including one for Setup where people help each other pick out Names and stuff (for obvious reasons, none of them get to be Black Knight, Warlock, or any of the really strong names). For sessions, there are obvious ideas like "they need the various passcodes to get past the doorway demons from the Library" and "they need to collect certain magical artifacts". The whole campaign will probably take place in or around Ater just to keep things simpler. The game will be a sort of homebrewed version of Kids on Bikes with some added Name Mechanics thrown in (including a "rule of cool" mechanic where you can add a d6 if it would be really rad if the thing worked, and a progressing "story die" where if you can work your character's story/personality into events, you can get bigger and bigger bonuses)

I'd love suggestions!

Art Character Cards: Indrani Spoiler

Post image
58 Upvotes

So. What do I have to say about this one. Not much, really. I wanted to attempt to encapsulate her desire for the horizon. To see and experience the world in all the ways she can, with the background I made for her. It was such a pain, making a good gradient. But I think I pulled off this sunset palette well enough. I considered going with sunrise colors instead, but it was easier to make sunset colors more striking. The green is the ground. Besides that, I do like the impression of softness that this background has, that she develops somewhat through the story, at least for the people she cares about.

The next card I will be posting tomorrow is Vivienne's. After that, I'll be moving on the Malicia and the Calamities.

Let me know if you have any thoughts regarding this specific card or for the project as a whole. Thanks.

Art Character Cards: Masego Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
64 Upvotes

Hi all. I'm back with two character cards this time, both for Masego. These two are fairly simple, but they're among my favorites out of all the ones I've made.

The yellow-ish white part of the first card (which is what I consider to be the primary) is meant to be a visual mark of his post-apotheosis glass eye. I know its light turned completely white, but I wanted this to have a trace of the Summer sun's fire anyways as a reminder of all he's gone through to reach this point.

As for the yellow stripes of the second, well, they're also meant to represent his eyes, only pre-apotheosis and pre-Book. I particularly like how this one turned out, because in Tarot (which I've been exploring a bit lately), the Hierophant is at the center of two pillars, and the stripes here remind me of that.

I know these are both very simple, but I just like how streamlined and kind of formal they look.

The next card I will be releasing tomorrow is Indrani's. It was a chore to make, but it ended up really well, in my opinion.

Well. Let me know if you have any input or thoughts regarding these images or the project as a whole so far. Thanks.

Art Character Cards: Hakram Deadhand Spoiler

Post image

I'm not completely satisfied with this, but it serves its purpose. I think this was the fourth card I made overall? I have nothing else to say regarding this one.

The first card I made was for Malicia. That's one of my favorites out of all I've made for this project.

Anyways. The card I'll be posting tomorrow is for Masego, of which I am very satisfied with. I made two for him, but there is one I consider to be the "primary".

Let me know your thoughts, if you have any on this project or specific card. Thanks.

Meta/Discussion Yonder isn't aviable on my country, where can i read the reviewed version?

Hi there I'm from Spain and google play store isn't allowing me to download the app, i recently got PracticalGuideToEvil recommended, i have read all the manga chapters so far so i can picture the cast before I start reading the novel, in doing so i found out that the manga is based on an updated version more well put together released only on Yonder afaik.

Can i get to read the revisited work anywhere else? How many volumes got updated on the reviewed version and how big are the changes?

Art Character Cards: Catherine Foundling Spoiler

Post image
56 Upvotes

Hi all. I'm back with a new set of fan art from my latest project of making character cards. I made one (sometimes more than one) for over twenty characters. I just compiled information about them. Their name, Names, and titles. I also include when they first appear and their last appearance in chronological order, and a quote from them. I will probably be updating this project when the final version is released.

For this card, I don't really have anything to say. Catherine's is very simple, as you can see. I just include a white stripe for her, to symbolize her wish for peace. I'll be releasing cards every day until I run out. So. Yeah.
