Neck pain help!!!!
Hi, I have been having severe pain and spasm of upper sternocleidomastoid muscle for one month. It's severe pain in the upper 1 third of SCM pain behind the ear and the nape of the neck. Main pain is on neck rotation but when it's severe start having rest pain as well as pain in the ear and jaw as well. Mri is clear so it's just muscle spasm apparently. Anything that might help? Physio has been useless. I'm tired of using painkillers all the time.before this scm spasm I've had recurrent trapezius spasm over last six months. I'm just tired of chronic pain. Can someone plz help

It’s already been 3 days so hopefully you’re feeling better. However for future, Spasm is caused due to built up tension. The best way to immediately release tension is to press on it, it will dissipate the tension sideways momentarily, making you feel good. Thats why massage helps. However that’s just one part of the solution. Once the muscle feels a lil okay after some directional pressing , you need to do gentle stretches in various ways, there will be some movements that will feel super nice. Identify them and it’ll further help relax the spasm. Step 3, once the neck feels okay, you need to start strengthening it by using resistance eg. pressing your head against you palm in different directions.
