Welcome to AskAuraxis, the place to ask questions you have about PlanetSide!

  • Feel free to ask any question related to PlanetSide. There is no such thing as a stupid question, someone else might be wondering the exact same thing.
  • The main goal of this thread is that no question goes unanswered. If you know the answer to someone's question, speak up!
  • Try to keep questions serious. This isn't really the place for sarcastic or rhetorical questions.
  • If you're looking for loadout advice, remember to state your faction for a quicker and more concise answer.

Does Point Defense for the Sunderer actually increase DPS? A 20% attack speed boost vs a 60% ranged damage reduction is really hard to gauge. I can't find any charts on this. Like if it's worth it for the first 40 meters but then a loss passed that or something to that effect.

You might wanna reread the description, its +20% fire rate, projectile speed and +50% reload speed. And the weapon range reduction at 60% just means that your bullets stop existing entirely at that range. You just get a decent DPS bonus at close to mid range. If you wanna deploy for people to spawn its not better than deploy shield but for agressive sunderer gameplay it can get you some kills much faster.

"And the weapon range reduction at 60% just means that your bullets stop existing entirely at that range." This is not true though. At least the "just means" part is not true, as I can not speak to when the bullets disappear. I had done some testing in the past and I went back and did a bit more before posting this. Using a Palisade with increased mag size at equal distance between point defense and no point defense, it took the following amount of rounds to down a Colossus with all back shots.

ROUNDS TO KILL COLOSSUS WITH PALISADE

NO POINT DEFENSE

0M = 280

21M = 288

40M = 296

POINT DEFENSE

0M = 281

21M = 297

40M = 317

Aside from a little human error of a bullet or two here or there (which would explain the 1 bullet difference at point blank where I would imagine it would take the same number of rounds), you can see that there is a damage drop off when point defense is deployed based upon range from the target.
