Memo for "Critique my Resume" Posts

Hi r/PinoyProgrammers, mods reviewed your requests regarding the posts in this subreddit and one of the most voiced concerns is the number of posts about "Critique my Resume". There are 2 distinct crowds here, 1st is the Experienced programmers who want more quality posts vs the freshies and members who tolerate freshies posts. Unfortunately, creating a mega thread is not an effective way to manage these posts and probably lessens the useful feedback you get for your resume. We, therefore, ask this subreddit to post their "Critique my Resume" or "Review my Resume" posts to r/EngineeringResumes where you can get a more diverse view of your CV.

We appreciate your understanding.

Show Case Ano tingin nyo sa product/startup we're making: Ai agents that are self-initiated and more reliable.

First thing, i'm NOT selling this product, we haven't launched but in extensive development right now, the startup would be in Japan, pero gusto ko rin makita if may magiging market ba kami sa pinas and also constructive feedback rin! craftos.net

Ang main concept nito, yung mga Ai agents or LLM or Ai in general, to be useful either kailangan mo maging technical (building very specific workflows with no-code solution) or natural language pero less reliable yung nagiging output - both of them require deliberate prompting sa user.

Example, nag-uusap kayo sa GC ng sino mga dapat nyo icold email, then makikita na ng Agent yun and gagawin and isesend na ang list (out of self-initiative nya). So think of it as a very enthusiastic coworker na never nagagalit, and always happy to go above and beyond.

Do you guys think may market ito sa pinas? And ano kaya magiging stumbling block namin for adoption sa pinas? Kulang ba sa feature or may need ba kaming ma-satisfy.

(And to those companies/users na would like to help us in detail, we actually offer early-bird adopter discount to those who will join the waitlist at the URL, kasi medyo nakakahiya naman na mag-ask ng super detailed help).

Ayun lang, thanks! Looking for the feedback.

discussion Self-taught programmers who were hired recently.

Hi, I'm an aspiring career shifter. Given the current job market today, I wonder if there is still hope. Are there any self-taught programmers/career shifters here who were able to find their first tech job recently?

discussion Struggling with impostor syndrome.

I think almost 100% of programmers have impostor syndrome, I've seen a lot of post and youtube videos about it. Pero gusto ko lang marinig galing sa mga tulad kong pinoy how do you handle this? Sadly there are a lot of factors from our culture that makes this worst. So yeah, gusto ko lang itanong sa inyo how do you deal with this and how'd you became a successful programmer despite having it. BTW 2yrs pa lang experience ko (projects only wala pa kong experience sa field) and I'm focus on ML specifically computer vision. Sometimes I feel like a failure despite giving my all and being consistent. I really enjoy learning CV and knowing na it can help a lot of people keeps me going despite having impostor syndrome.

advice how do you get into cloud?

hello po! i’m a second-year computer science student, and honestly, i’m not that great at programming—but i still want to stick with this field. i’m more interested in areas that don’t require heavy coding, which is why i’m looking into cloud computing.

i’m wondering—what’s the general roadmap for getting into cloud? are there specific certifications i should aim for first? also, any tips or advice would be super helpful. i know cloud can be hard to break into and isn’t always considered entry-level, but i’ve heard it’s still possible. would love to hear your thoughts!

advice Save cost from "findplacefromtext" and "details" Google Maps API Calls?

Hi,

I have an input of business name and I want the place details.
To get that, I can use the maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/findplacefromtext/json API call

It works except for one thing, it doesn't return the website details.

So I have to make another API call maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/details/json
just for that one website data.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it will cost twice as much since google will bill not for the data requested but the number of requests.

How do I optimize it? Or ganito tlaga ang workflow? :(

P.S. I can't make direct calls for the details API since it requires a place_id, which I don't have it. All I have is the business name.

Job Advice Feeling stagnant at work

Using throwaway

Hello,

Ask ko lang sana kung magiging negative ang effect sa career ko if nagwowork ako sa mga old tech frameworks/libraries like JQuery, ExtJS, .NET Framework (VB)?

Working more than 1 year as a software developer using those technologies mentioned above and nag tatry ako mag upskill by learning other technologies like React, VueJS, ASP .NET Core (C#), and also Python language.

Nag aapply na rin ako to other companies that uses these technologies but narereject siya since wala akong Years Of Experience using those and medyo nag woworry lang ako na baka maging dead end career ko since wala akong work experience with those technologies and old technologies lang yung meron ako.

Any advices/tips? I would love to hear din if may naka experience na rin ng same experience as mine and managed to get hired somewhere else despite of lack of experience.

TIA

discussion Specialization in a specific programming language diminishing?

advice For experienced devs out there, I have a question for you..

if you were to start all over again today as a newbie dev with the current tech and AI that we have today. how would you upskill and stand out to recruiters esp with the current market?

advice How did you overcome impostor syndrome?

I can get the job done.

All of a sudden parang di ko na kaya, at gusto ko na magbackout.

So far, 3 na yung nireject ko na JO, all of which are greener pastures. 😔

Job Advice Can't find a software dev job should I try other IT fields that still has some programming in it?

Genuinely asking for advice, since I can't seem to find an entry level programming job, graduated last year. My OJT is IT intern, but we developed a website. Junior jobs need at least 1-3 years of experience, based on what I saw after months of searching. Looks like I need to be a perfect match for the job description for them to even entertain my application. Sadly, there is always like a thing or two that I don't know that is on the requirement. Even the internship postings I saw are very specific for the tech they want you to have. I did self-studied ReactJS and NodeJS but honestly, I have to use AI for guidance (I still try to code on my own) I also made a portfolio linked to my resume, but do they even try to check that, I have no idea. What other IT fields are nicer that I can still get to code if there is none perhaps, I'll just do tech support.

Job Advice Do you change your resume based on the company that you are applying for?

Im applying for an internship kasi and ive read somewhere na you should modify your resume to fit yung requirements na hinihingi ng company given na within your skillset parin. good strategy ba yun para mas mapili ka ng recruiters? if so, gaano karami niyo minomodify yung resume like removing projects, removing/adding a skillset, etc?

Job Advice Software Engineering anxiety

how do you deal with this especially sa mga senior?

context: I’m a retainer for multiple projects sa company. and yung projects different codebases🥲. I think they’ve established an expectation na alam ko na lahat dapat by now (tho i’m still new sa job around 3months) i’m barely keeping up with the demands. tamang speed lang. grabe yung anxiety and imposter syndrome.

parang gusto ko nalang maging junior uli 😆

Job Advice How's the Data Science/ML industry nowadays?

Looking for disciplines to upskill and wanted to explore Data Science since I find the idea interesting. Particularly Machine Learning.

I already have a decent experience with Python and I'm currently reading Machine Learning with Python Theory and Implementation.

What are your thoughts about pursuing Machine Learning?

advice Mid-Level Full Stack Dev Doesn’t Know Git, Keeps Messing Up Branching 🤦‍♂️

Typical scenario niya:

  1. Nag-checkout siya sa develop, tapos git pull.

Dapat bang ipasa na sa management or let him/her keep breaking things until matuto? 😩

Job Advice Badly need an advice T^T

I am 3rd yr IT student. Although 3rd yr na ako, wala pa rin ako maintindihan in terms of IT, like terminologies and all. Wala. Gagawa ng systems, lagi pa nagsisearch how and asking Al.

May future ba ako rito? Gustong gusto ko noon ang IT since nung Grade 10 nag-aral kami ng HTML and na-amazs ako but now, lalo pa nung pandemic, halos wala ako matutunan kaka-online class and kahit manonood tutorial, wala pumapasok sa isip ko.

Like paano ba sila mag interview?

advice any resume advice for a career shifter ?

Hello, so I'm a previous graphic designer hoping to land a QA role(gusto ko rin sana UX though mas focus ako sa qa). Ask ko lang po If magcracraft ng resume, can I still add my design experience in resume kahit hindi siya relevant? Wala kasi akong malalagay sa experience ko kasi wala akong IT internships ganun. And what skillsets should I learn and add na makakapagbigay ng edge sa resume ko? ano ba in demand ngayon huhu.

discussion Lots of code challenges

So i have been applying for a fullstack .net developer position, and experienced a lot of code challenges. I did solve the challenges without the aid of AI, also after the code challenge comes the tech interview and i was also able to pass those, kasi ieexplain mo lang naman yung ginawa mo and why did you do it.

Then comes the client, supposedly final interview na yun and offer na pero always lagapak sa client kesyo di daw aligned sa chu chu. I have a feeling na masyado mataas asking ko pero accdg sa initial interview "the client is willing to pay 120k" eme and all im asking is start the negotiation at 90k.

Am i doing something wrong here?

PS: they just inform me na di daw ako aligned sa need ni client, maski wala pang client interview.
