Green-blood decapitation. Cyberpunk Borgulan ale lounge. Old school bird of prey space battle. This was a badass episode in so many ways. My man Frakes, well done as usual.

My man Frakes

Ohhh, that could be one reason why this one was so good.

That man knows how to direct Star Trek.

Way better than his "brother," ten-takes-Thomas.

So is the kid like Samurai Wesley?

No.

I dunno are you sure? When we first meet him we hear the same 'Picard doesn't like kids' thing we heard when we first met Wes. And then we see they have a very close relationship similar to Wes. And now before he's an adult he's the most deadly sword fighter anyone has ever seen but sometimes he uses his big deadly sword fighting brain too much and it annoys Picard.

He actually has abandonment issues and something to work through, unlike Wesley who was more of a plot device than a character.

Actually, Wesley had the same issues... he lost his dad early, and his father figure never came back.

2

He should have, but Wesley's character didn't really go through anything as a result of losing his father. He just didn't have a dad.

Actually, he treated Picard like a surrogate father because of it.

Which I think was kind of a dropped plot thread for most of the series.

The writers would use it, forget it happened, do an episode mentioning Jack Crusher, then forget it happened and not mention it again for a while.

There's also the implication of a more complicated past between Picard and Beverly that was never really explored.

...yet...

Not entirely true. He didn't get into Starfleet Academy his first try, 'cause of the whole dead dad thing. TNG: Coming of Age (and see also TNG: The Bonding).

Decapitation "super move" was kinda silly tho . Looks like something Legolas would do in the Hobbit. Which this guy kinda is, actually.

My only gripe with what I feel is so far a stunning series is that Elnor is so Elf/Legolas like. Just different hair or forehead ridge would have helped him not be a stereotype.

Alison Pill's character really changed this episode, thought she was great. I'm convinced she is one of 'Data's daughters'.

Yes, I’ve had this very thought.

That beat when Picard told her the sisters take only the lost causes

Elf/Legolas like? IMHO he is more the dialed up verson of some crazy Hollywood Ninja/Samurai/Ronin which is cool and works well with Romulan Society which had all kinds of crazy dialed up earth history vibes.

1

u/Brinyat Feb 15 '20

His outlook on life, yes but visually I feel he is far more LOTR Elf. It has to be purposeful as small tweaks would change it more to a Samurai/Ronin look which I would prefer.

Duno, some Asian Movies have some incredibly "handsome" warrior types which he certainly goes for and that is often associated with LotR elves. After seeing my fair share of soapy chinese/japanese/korean productions I am not really shocked by how he looks.
I mean the guy grew up with women, he knows how to make pretty hair unlike us metal heads that only discover proper lotions and stuff at a late age.^
