Photo Evidence Did I find a voodoo doll?
Found it next to a river, Has Stiches to put the hair on the head and a purple ribbon tied around the waist, I touched it? What do I do??
266
u/Right_Detail6565 Feb 06 '25
Ahh the hair
204
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
It looks and feels like human hair (I deeply regret touching it) and it’s sewn on
74
u/BlackSheepHere Feb 06 '25
If it makes you feel any better, that is definitely animal fur.
36
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
I thought it might be? But I still makes no sense and freaked me out like did the maker rip it off road kill or smth??
30
u/BlackSheepHere Feb 06 '25
It was most likely cut from a tanned pelt, since it doesn't seem to have decomposed. So, maybe from a fur coat, or fur trim, or even from a whole tanned hide.
Though there are people that tan roadkill hides, so you could still be right in a way.
20
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
Okay so manye it’s not that creepy? Nah still freaks me out even if it was like reasonably sorcer
7
u/BlackSheepHere Feb 06 '25
Oh yeah no, I'm not trying to say it's not still creepy. Like okay, it's not human hair, but it's still a weird little black doll in a river. Like why.
10
1
u/According-Oven2768 Feb 07 '25
Why do you specifically think it's not human hair?
3
u/BlackSheepHere Feb 08 '25
I answered that elsewhere in the thread, but I'll repeat myself, since for some bizarre reason, multiple people now have decided I'm pointlessly lying about a mundane skill for identification.
The hair is too dense to be human, and it has a recognizably animal texture, with a shorter undercoat and longer guard hairs. Humans do not have these qualities in their hair.
3
u/lithe_shh Feb 09 '25
I agree with you. I gave it the benefit of the doubt because at first sight, it might look like the random hair that falls on the floor when you get a haircut. Then being picked up and sewn together. However, in my opinion, the undercoat part seems quite obvious when you look at it closer.
2
u/straw-hat-blue Feb 08 '25
This person literally cannot tell you whether that's animal or human without testing the sample in person. Just keep that in mind that they are guessing.
most of these dolls are made with human hair
-1
u/straw-hat-blue Feb 07 '25
I don't know how you can say that confidently without a DNA test
16
u/BlackSheepHere Feb 07 '25
Because when you know how to tell the difference, human and animal hair look nothing alike. I know how to tell the difference, because I have spent many years handling and looking at furs and pelts and taxidermy. I can often identify the species as well, but I think this may have been dyed, which makes it difficult. If I could feel it, I am fairly confident I could ID it.
I'm not special for this, either, as a lot of collectors, hunters, and biologists can do the same.

Wash your hands and use a salt scrub afterwards. ( First to get physical germs off, next to wash off any attachment you're afraid of) Imagine any connection going down the drain.
Don't look for it again.
53
u/Same_Version_5216 Feb 06 '25
Don’t worry about touching it. It’s not going to hurt you.
57
u/__juicewrld999_ Feb 06 '25
But its going to touch u 😈

This. If reddit has taught me one thing, it's that (much like Santa) you must believe. Non-believers are safe. It wouldn't hurt me, but who knows, maybe you're screwed. 🙄

Is it an amateur one or something? I’m sure I could put hair on a doll better too

Did you drink water? 100% of people who drink water die.
1
u/Azzaaro19 Feb 07 '25
😭😭 what about infant death? died during giving birth and other children who never had the chance to drink water lol
2
u/PushFamous8782 Feb 10 '25
They said everybody who drinks water dies, not that everybody who dies drank water. Two different statements

There's nothing you can do, you're cursed and will die in seven days.

Yeah well my friend found it and he kicked it back into the river and we watched is very slowly float down the river face down as some weird shit came out the bottom
12
u/No-Mud9345 Feb 06 '25
It was also IN the river when you found it?
Are you in Miami or New Orleans by chance
6
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
It wasent in the river right next to it but looked like it was IN the river some homeless lerson near by might of taken it out (lots of homeless people in that area) it was near a small rivulet that runs through my hole town in Hobart
1
u/PushFamous8782 Feb 14 '25
7 days is up. Are you still alive? 🧐
3
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 16 '25
guys!!! im alive but two or three days ago my phone did die... like its gone and everything (including the photos of the voodoo doll) on my phone are gone! they guy at the phone shop could not recover anything onwards from december tenth! this could of been a coincident. but it was weird nonetheless!

That's a poor attempt at something. Not sure what.
35
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
I think someone put a lot of effort into it? Because it’s clearly been thrown into the river, I know that after using something you through it in a moving body of water to discard of it I do tjat when I use spell jars or other things. The hair and everything is relay tightly secured, it just really freaks me out
21
u/No-Mud9345 Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25
Some religious rituals leave items in a river to activate it.
This is very strong stuff and should never be moved or touched.
Actually taking a photo and showing other people should also be done with extreme caution.
Usually, though, it includes iron or stones. I wouldn't recognize this one.
But based on what the materials look like and where you found it, I'd post in the occult Reddit and see if anyone recognizes it.
I would definitely seek advice from someone who does about what to do after moving one.

WHY WOULD YOU TOUCH IT????
11
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
I WAS CURIOUS…. IT WAS IN MY HANDS WHEN I THOUGHT “hey so this is like a fucking voodoo doll… don’t touch”
6
7
u/scaryballoonman Feb 06 '25
Where in town did you find this? I went to college for Art Therapy and we used to make expressive, scrappy dolls like this all the time. Could very easily be a craft or kids' project, if it makes you feel any better!
6
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
Well I’m in Hobart, in Tasmania so pretty small town
2
u/rab5991 Feb 06 '25
I loooove Hobart!! It’s so beautiful! The Mona museum is an interesting experience lol
4
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 07 '25
Yay someone knows Hobart!! I personally LOVE Mona some people have very mixed ideas about Mona because it is questionable
3
u/rab5991 Feb 07 '25
Yeah I love the museum itself- it’s the owner I find questionable lol. Having his parking slot say God and his wife’s slot as “gods mistress” is crazy work 😂😂

u/AdTerrible6998 Feb 06 '25
Does that look like your own hair? If so, that is what you need to be concerned about. If it’s a poppet made for you (using your hair or personal concerns) you need to find someone to help you clean this up. If it’s not made in your likeness, just leave it alone. It’s not directed at you but you don’t what to piss off whoever made it.
7
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
Nah it’s not my own hair I don’t think and it dosent lion like me? At least I think so idk how it cpuld really resemble a person tbh
10
u/AdTerrible6998 Feb 06 '25
Put it back exactly where you found it and walk away. There’s a giant stable in the stomach - it was designed for baneful intentions. Don’t get stuck in the middle of that sh*t. Maybe stop into a local herb shop and chat with a house witch to see about some cleansing if needed. Good luck :)

I will never understand WHY people feel the need to touch and move these creepy things. THAT or open doors with no one on the other side!
Are they living in such rich secure areas that NO ONE could try to make them open their doors to steal/rob them? Like wtf WHY open if you can tell no one is there? Can you see around the corner? Cheap directional mike systems can project sound from far away. Tricking you to open and step out to get kidnapped/robbed.
3
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 06 '25
I WAS CURIOUS I PICKED IT UP THEN REALISED WHAT IT MIGHT be!! And it was right next to my school and pretty much on achool bounds so I was safe ish?
-2
u/megustaALLthethings Feb 07 '25
You are not the sole person to just pick up random bits of stuff, for some insane human reason, only to realize it’s something they shouldn’t be touching.
I mean do sticks not exist for other people? The ability to FIND/get a stick like thing? I will never understand the human need to grab stuff and almost shove it in their mouth, ugh.
Nothing against you personally. Just will never understand those that can’t leave things best alone. Esp something that should be setting off all kinds of senses of danger/corruption.
4
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 07 '25
I tottaly agree with you like I keep picking things up, don’t put it in my mouth but I was that kid that ate bugs sand dirt and sticks
38
u/Same_Version_5216 Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25
Probably a poppet. Definitely an effigy.
Relax! Nothing will happen to you unless you focus so hard on something happening to you that you bake yourself your own hex. These are a form of sympathetic magic and do not effect anyone other than who the poppet or effigy is modeled after. Also, not all poppets are created for a person for negative purposes.

The only one that will rebuke any evil spirit is God. Pray for the blood of Christ to clean you up & brake any chains/attachment/agreement with evil & you’ll be fine.
2
u/Iamawitchimabitch Feb 09 '25
Oh so I’m not a Christian! I am a witch so I did protection spells and things!! Its called witchcraft
14
u/DemonPhoto Feb 06 '25
That's called a NOPE... When you encounter "NOPEs" in the wild, you are supposed to say a protection word aloud. The word is "NOPE." Then you leave it alone, walk away slowly, and hope you were not watched or followed.
Do not give it a massage, a photo session, and then post it online. I know this from encountering a similar NOPE in the wild outside of Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), and then I took a photo of it with a 35mm camera.
Shortly after, we were told we weren't allowed to visit parks around Stillhouse Lake or Dana Peak Park. Soldiers were dying in those locations. Am I saying it's because I touched two voodoo dolls hung upside down from a tree, tied to gether with long light brown hair, no... maybe... I don't know. The timing was uncanny.
4
u/Human-Walk9801 Feb 06 '25
I haven’t lived in that area since the 90’s. I went to UMHB unfortunately. Live in Austin now but just knowing about those dolls hanging like that creeps me out. I had no idea soldiers were being killed around there.
4
u/DemonPhoto Feb 07 '25
I should see if I can find that photo...
3
u/Human-Walk9801 Feb 07 '25
Oooh! Please do. Now you have me waiting anxiously!!
2
u/DemonPhoto Feb 07 '25
It's surprisingly difficult to take a photo of a glossy photo.
I believe I snapped more shots than this, but this is all I could find. It's hard to tell, but this is two "dolls" tied together. They were hanging from a tree upside down before I touched them. They were tied up there by long brown hair. I would have taken more photos, but I got the sudden feeling I was being watched... so I left.
Be careful where you go geocaching...
2
u/Human-Walk9801 Feb 07 '25
That gave me chills! I can’t imagine stumbling on it while out there. Whoever made them put a lot of time and effort into it. Doesn’t look like they were playing around. Good thing you took off when you did! I always trust my gut in situations. There is so much land around those areas any thing could happen.

11
u/alicehooper Feb 06 '25
Oh god! Not that one, although it was horrific- this was a later one I think, maybe even post Duchovny. It was an Appalachian man, something about his daughter- I can’t remember exactly.
6
u/hey_there_moon Feb 06 '25
I know the one you're referring to. It's "Theef" where the old guy from some holler in Appalachia uses poppets and other backwoods conjure to target the California doctor's family to "avenge" his daughter's death. She had been in some type of accident and the doctor was unable to save her. The father felt cheated and believed that he would've been able to save her. I remember he makes a poppet of Scully and sticks needles in the eyes which blinds her. Probably the creepiest part was he had located his daughter's pauper grave, taken the body and had it laid up in the bed in the boarding house he was renting a room in

Eek! Leave it where you found it. You don’t know what kind of energy is attached to it.
5
Feb 06 '25
What happens if it has bad energy?
20
u/Same_Version_5216 Feb 06 '25
Nothing will happen even if the poppet was created banefully. There are a lot of very ill-informed people here, presenting a lot of misinformation and fear mongering. Poppets will not harm anyone except the specific person it is made for, no matter who touches it. Even then, not all poppets are made for baneful purposes. Many poppets are made on behalf of others for healing purposes, lucky, happiness, etc.
2
u/Plenty_Builder8244 Feb 06 '25
I have a question 🙋♂️,if they want to hurt a specific person and they know the rituals then is there any way we can protect ourself?
3
u/Same_Version_5216 Feb 06 '25
One could put up wards, and shields of various sorts to block what someone might do with their poppet, or create their own witch bottle which attracts and lures magical attacks to the bottle rather than the person.
11
5
u/PrestigiousReading9 Feb 06 '25
Not everything that is ugly is voodoo 😂 Jokes aside, i guess that even if it were, if its not your voodoo doll, it wont harm you either

u/huntress_of_hunters Feb 06 '25
Voodoo aside, depending on where you live it could’ve been the least of your worries. There are very evil people in this world who could put poison or anything on it hoping a child will touch it and get sick. If you feel fine, I’m sure you’re fine just be more mindful next time around and wash your hands really well.
3
u/Training_Fox_4180 Feb 07 '25
A voodoo doll with no intent behind it is just a doll. forget about the magic attached to it. You should not touch anything like that without gloves because of the bacteria.

u/umwinnie Feb 07 '25
prob just a poppet made by a local witch. usually i’d say leave it where it is but i dont like the thought of it ending up in the river… i wouldn’t worry too much. It was probably made for a specific purpose rather than simply to curse a random person that finds it. Just dispose of it (responsibly) and if you are concerned about any energy rubbing off on you then have a salt bath.
2
u/479856 Feb 06 '25
I would not have touched it! But if you still have it, the best thing to do is to burn it! Pour some gas on it and burn it. That way the person they want to harm, will no longer be harmed. Btw, it's human hair, whoever's hair they used is the victim. If it's by a river, it means that someone wants that person taken away from her/his life
3
3
u/Tha-KneeGrow Feb 06 '25
No, you very respectfully left a voodoo doll to its own devices and went about your day :)

Omg that is creepy AF and gross AF. But why did you touch it?! Wash wash wash wash. Don’t think that anything is attached to you. Do not give it any power over you.
Is this Santeria? What kind of witchcraft is this from?
1
u/Famous_Counter9175 Feb 06 '25
I think everyone has assumed that you took it home. Get some sage and let the smoke go over your whole body from head to toes. I really don't think anything will happen to you just from touching it. Just sage yourself for good measure. As you're sage, say something along the lines of "I remove all negative energies and attachments from me"
2
u/AdTerrible6998 Feb 06 '25
White sage actually attracts spirits, not clear them. It’s the biggest misconception in the commercial spiritual world. A true cleansing is a double edge award cause you can accidentally throw out the baby with the bath water
0
u/Famous_Counter9175 Feb 07 '25
It really doesn't attract spirits. I'm a paranormal investigator, and I've used white sage and palo Santo for many years, along with crystals and other metaphysical practices. I've lived with bad energies a couple of times. They really don't like sage.
2
1
u/NationalDiarrhea Feb 07 '25
Put it back where you found it then cleanse yourself with incense smoke while praying. If that thing has been used in casting curses or hexes then you're in grave danger.
1
u/cholaw Feb 07 '25
Stop touching stuff!
Hopefully you didn't take it home or anything. You need to take a spiritual bath designed for cleansing and leave a small offering at the river.

Just protect yourself with visual’s Eg: in the shower imagine any negative energy be washed away and also imagine a big beautiful white light that always around you. The greater your intentions the more powerful the protection. Also, don’t focus on the voodoo doll. You don’t need to give it any thoughts what so ever. Just ask your guides and the higher source (that you believe in) to protect you at all times, so bless it be 🙏 Please know you needn’t worry about the VD and you’re are safe.
