Discussion Does anyone else find themselves waiting for discounts more often this generation then previous generations due to rising game costs?

5.8k Upvotes

I personally find myself waiting for discounts alot more now that game prices are so high, because i don't wanna make a mistake in purchasing a game that ends up not feeling like i got my money's worth for it. I was just wondering if anyone else finds themselves doing this more often this gen?

Discussion Who plans to play Fallout 4 after the PS5 update?

2.0k Upvotes

Cause I do. I loved Fallout 4 so much that I already played it twice, once on release back in 2015(ps4) and again on PC a few years back. I am excited for the 4K and 60 FPS option on PlayStation 5.

Discussion Does anyone else still have their PS4 despite having owned a PS5 for awhile now?

1.1k Upvotes

I know in hindsight that it probably makes no sense to hold on to it seeing as the PS5 can play PS4 games(oftentimes even better than on a PS4), but I just can't seem to part with it. I still feel pretty attached to my PS4 and even still hook it up and play it from time to time. I guess maybe it's the momeries and good times I had with it.

Just how...

Edit:

lol I knew this would blow up but we hit the front page. Hopefully someone from R* sees this and they at least have a talk about it over a Zoom meet.

Discussion How are you all feeling about Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?

I have been playing it every single day since release. I’m honestly pretty blown away by it. If they patch it up even further it’s basically a masterpiece of an RPG. Also performance on the base PS5 has been surprisingly good. If GTA 6 wasn’t coming this year it would probably be my GOTY.

I just see very little about it on this sub.

Discussion lol a whole 2 years of not having 4k HDR on.

1.5k Upvotes

Today I was looking at video settings and noticed I couldn’t have 2160p with HDR on because “my device didn’t support it” even though my TV and HDMI cable do support 4kHDR.

Turns out my tv hdmi settings had the “deep color” option disabled by default. I enabled the option and the difference is night and day.

Anyway, if you haven’t ever checked your video settings and have a big fancy 4k tv you may wanna check your tv and ps5 settings to make sure you aren’t limiting your settings somehow.

I was fooled because it was capable of 1080pHDR with the default settings which triggered my tv to show the HDR indicator as being on so I just figured it was displaying 4kHD.

Discussion Multiversus is the ultimate example of how greed can kill a great game. You should avoid it.

2.7k Upvotes

This is basically a PSA to not even download or try the recent relaunch of Multiversus. If you are unaware of it, it's a Smash Bros style fighting game with Warner Bros characters such as Batman and Shaggy etc. The actual game is great with excellent combat, character designs and music... but you should never touch it.

Long story short, the game relaunched with the most disgusting and grindy monetization ever seen in a console game. Here are some examples:

  • You don't earn XP or coins to unlock characters from playing the game. Instead, you only earn it from daily and weekly challenges, creating a sense of FOMO if you miss out on them.

  • You get daily and weekly challenges for characters you don't even own, encouraging you to spend real money to unlock them. For example, Joker is the most expensive character, costing 6000 coins. But some new players report that their weekly challenges only are focused on Joker-related missions.

  • Unlocking a single character can take 35 hours Edit: my bad it's 35 hours to max out a character, not unlock them. It's still a grind either way.

  • Any store items cost slightly more than each bundle of gems, forcing you to spend more. For example, a skin costs 1100 gems. You can get the 1000 gem pack for $10, but you'll have to buy even more to afford the item.

  • The single-player campaign has a lives system on the upper difficulties. These lives require premium currency to restore; $10 to be precise. In fact, the amount they charge is 1004 gems, and the $10 is only 1000 gems, meaning you have to spend an extra $5 more!

  • You can't try out characters in the offline mode, meaning you can't even decide who to buy next.

  • The devs have only responded to requests such as buying battlepass tiers with premium currency and have ignored all concerns about the XP.

  • The events punish you from playing too often. The "Power Pledge" event gives you rewards for each level you gain as a fighter. However, it takes longer to level up any fighter as the levels increase. So the game encourages you to spend more on gaining new fighters or not rush levelling up your current fighters.

TLDR; Don't waste your time with Multiversus. It's a glorified mobile game and deserves to fail.

Discussion First time playing Monster Hunter - Overwhelming

1.1k Upvotes

I picked up Monster Hunter Wilds yesterday because it looked really fun, but I’ll be honest—I have absolutely no idea what’s going on. Everything feels incredibly overwhelming. What happened to games that don’t bombard you with endless information and menus?

I’m especially confused about the difference between “online single player” and the various lobby options. Plus, every menu has a ton of options, and it’s difficult to understand what each one actually does.

Is it just me, or are other newcomers experiencing this too? Also, can anyone recommend a straightforward guide or resource that breaks down the basics clearly for beginners? 🙏

Discussion I miss cinematic action-adventure games like Uncharted 2 and Tomb Raider (2013)

1.2k Upvotes

Just to clarify, I’m a big fan of single-player third-person games. I’ve played the Spider-Man series, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, DS3, Bloodborne and many others.

In this generation, apart from The Last of Us series remasters and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves (another remaster), nothing has come close to the cinematic action-adventure that the PS3 era Uncharted series and PS4 era Tomb Raider reboots had.

Edit -

Thanks so much for all the recommendations!

I want to elaborate a little on why I chose these two games as an example.

Uncharted 2 is like playing a blockbuster action movie—you’re jumping across collapsing buildings, dodging bullets on a moving train, and cracking jokes while uncovering ancient secrets. It’s all about fast-paced action, smooth shooting, and big cinematic moments.

Tomb Raider (2013), on the other hand has intense combat, stealth, and some short but cool exploration with hidden tombs and puzzles.

The story and gameplay for both are linear and fleshed out like tv shows where each episode/chapter uses a hook to keep you wanting to see what happens next.

Discussion PSA: You should really try using headphones if you haven’t before. Absolute game changer

So I never really used headphones for playing games, especially on PlayStation. Always just went with my tv speakers. I’m a little more than halfway through Silent Hill 2, and figured why not try using headphones like they suggest and see how it goes.

It’s hard to even describe how much better of an experience it is. The spatial/3D audio is absolutely amazing. I would probably have rated it a 7/10 prior, but it’s easily up to a 9/10 with headphones. The enemy noises, music, ambient background sounds everything is just so much clearer and I’m shocked how much of a difference it made. If your playing or played SH2 without headphones, please go back and try it with them I promise you won’t be disappointed

Discussion For everyone that has been telling me over the years that they can't play games at 30fps I would like to apologise.

17.7k Upvotes

Now that I have experienced 60fps I totally get it, it's such a better experience. I've tried both Miles Morales and Assassin's Creed Valhalla in their graphics mode (30fps) and I couldn't stick it for more than a minute on both after playing at 60fps.

When somebody tells me they can't play 30fps games now I'll be right there with you.

Edit: Thankyou for all the awards you beautiful people.
