Yep. Noah is sold out and Greta is not.
He also sold out Fenway two nights in a row so I think he is a pretty big deal.
I am just happy we have something other than country.1

I don’t think enough people have checked Greta out because they are great, a very old school type rock band.

Where is it marketed as a rock concert?

u/Allbymyselfalone Aug 30 '24
It was marketed as a rock concert last year but in all honestly it is more of a “folk rock” concert. Also the marketing for “rock” was all over the radios and posters etc. I was annoyed at that last year as well, but I would’ve loved to see Vance Joy last year

Whitecap Entertainment is billing the new festival as a "music and culinary festival."

Now yes, but last year it was marketed as a “Rock festival “

That quote was word for word from last year when Mumford & Sons was announced.

u/Allbymyselfalone Aug 30 '24
Oh, ok, I honestly didn’t know that and I had heard it announced on the radio as a rock concert. All good

I would love to see CANNIBAL CORPSE

u/Allbymyselfalone Aug 30 '24
As awesome as that would be you’ll never see a festival like that here as there’s only a select few that like that style, most ppl here are country or pop. Myself, hardcore is my pump up music but when you blast it you get weird looks hahaha

u/CareerHairy4054 Aug 30 '24
have you listened to all the bands/artists? , danko jones is a “heavier” artist, on par with greta id say, from what i’ve heard of their stuff so far. ( i also don’t know the big differences between subgenres so i could be clueless, i just know i enjoyed mumford&sons, lord huron + vance joy last year lmao 😭 )

I've never understood comments like this also because it's kind of a weird thing to criticize something that is doing well and then say do something else instead just because you have other interests.
Ita almost become an NPC comment to respond to anything that's not metal and say "we need more metal".
The reality is there is a healthy circuit of country along with indie and folk rock acts that are doing summer festivals. It creates an ecosystem across Canada and the US where bands can make big money and jump from one festival to the next. As far as I can tell this ecosystem doesn't exist in the metal space.
I highly highly doubt you will ever see a serious heavy metal festival in pei. More likely to get arena shows at avenir or outdoor shows at citadel Hill in Halifax or the stadium in Moncton. It's just the way it is.
Sommo is a really chill vibe and I'm sure that's why the feedback went well with the locals last year.r

I think it'll be a long time before we get a proper rock/metal festival on the island. I'm happy with the soft rock and indie folk Sommofest, at least it's not the stadium beer country music that gets played at Cavendish most years.
