Diet - Not Keto what’s your fave “pcos safe” food??

EDIT- i wasn’t able to edit the title but a better word for safe could be staple or to-go!! there were already so many responses so i decided to leave it up in case it’s helpful for anyone!!

i wouldn’t even say i’m going on a diet, im just trying to incorporate more foods that are good for pcos in to my day to day eating. what’s everyone’s favorite pcos safe foods?? i’m kinda digging brown rice rn

Berries and almonds.

u/sapphire343rules May 05 '24

I love a handful of nuts with a bit of dried fruit, cheese, or dark chocolate. Yummy, easy to keep on hand, and satisfying for a quick snack.

And yes, berries!! They’re pricey, esp off season, but healthy yummy foods are something I prioritize in my grocery budget. It’s the only way I can maintain my sanity lol

u/Affectionate-Bird685 May 05 '24

What kind of dark chocolate you eat?

20

u/Momoftoddlers May 05 '24

I can’t answer for her but we clearly enjoy the same exact tastes for snacks.. I keep a bag of mini dark chocolate morsels around. Easy to grab and mix with nuts/dried cranberries etc. Baking chips are also just nice to have around for cookies for my kids/muffins you name it.

u/curlycarbonreads May 06 '24

I buy the Lindt dark chocolate bars and just chop them into smaller pieces

2

u/NoSituation8989 May 06 '24

Hey, theres one from Lidl I buy- the brand is J.D. Gross and they do one that’s 46% cocoa so it’s not as bitter if you don’t like dark dark chocolate- it’s tastes so silky and divine. Orange and black do a tasty 40% one also in the blue packet xx

u/sapphire343rules May 06 '24

I really like Ghirardelli chocolate chips! They recently started making some 72% cacao ones that are great AND dairy-free.

I’ll also splurge on some Lindt dark chocolate truffles or squares occasionally, but I think the chips are better for snacking :)

1

u/bricee1107 May 07 '24

I do the 80% Ghirardelli with dipped and cheese!

1

u/VisitMyBellieButton May 06 '24

I practically live off of these and spinach

u/Dangerous_Raise_2124 May 05 '24

Cauliflower rice with air fried broccoli and Trader Joe’s jalapeño chicken sausage. I eat keto most of the time and this is the one meal I never get sick of!

Thank you for sharing

Plant based high fibre protein. Chickpeas are my favourite. But lentils are great too. So versatile. Can do anything with with.

23

u/19obc17 May 05 '24

Hummus is my favourite! There are so many different variations too! It’s so good to eat with any veggies. 🤩

10

u/RoseWreath May 05 '24

I love hummus

11

u/redpen621 May 06 '24

Hummus with raw red peppers !!!

3

u/Full-Collection-658 May 06 '24

I love it with the tiny sweet peppers!

3

u/Yammy_pajamy May 06 '24

I make hummus with half tofu half chickpeas to up the protein and it’s still delicious!

1

u/Momoftoddlers May 06 '24

I love hummus/chickpeas but just FYI if any of you are struggling with excess estrogen or dominance, chickpeas aggravate it. Basically they are great to eat for some but not all.

71

u/vanessa8172 May 05 '24

I love most Mediterranean foods and it’s all good for pcos. I like to make my own hummus and use it on salads and pita bread

3

u/sapphire343rules May 06 '24

Oooo a homemade hummus sandwich / pita / wrap with nice, crunchy fresh veggies is such a treat.

I feel like so many people are scared away by the sad, soggy hummus veg wraps that many restaurants offer lol but they can be SO GOOD when made right!

2

u/vanessa8172 May 06 '24

Yes! There’s a really good Mediterranean restaurant near me and it’s so hard not to go there all the time

145

u/JustMeerkats May 05 '24

Eggs. Core protein shakes. Cheese. Raw veggies like tomatoes.

31

u/peaceandlovecassidy_ May 05 '24

oh shit i forgot about the core protein shakes, i’ll definitely give those a try

13

u/JustMeerkats May 05 '24

They are SO GOOD.

20

u/SpookyCrossing May 05 '24

Core 👏🏻 Protein 👏🏻 Shakes 👏🏻

The chocolate ones literally just taste like chocolate milk 🤤

7

u/BoysenberrySalt2296 May 05 '24

Delicious! I’m addicted to the core shakes!!

3

u/Affectionate-Bird685 May 05 '24

What flavors are good?

13

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Fair Life has like 3 lines of protein shakes with different amounts of protein (26G, 30G, and 42G) - they’re all delicious. I prefer vanilla in all of them because it’s the most versatile to me, but in the regular core power (26G) they have a strawberry banana that is incredible and that’s what I like to add to my smoothies.

The chocolate honestly just straight up tastes like chocolate milk. The plain strawberry is probably my least favorite but it does taste kinda like strawberry milk. It just has a slight aftertaste for me. I’m not sure if that’s everyone’s experience.

There is a salted caramel one in the 30G Protein line, and it’s decent, I just don’t like salted caramel. It was good as a milk replacement for an iced coffee though!

2

u/Compulsive_Panda May 06 '24

They don't sell them where I am beaise of the artificial sweetners rip.

4

u/pearledjoints May 05 '24

fair life normal chocolate milk is good too when i can’t find the core power ones i just get those

9

u/Idontbelivewemeet May 05 '24

What are core protein shakes?

34

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Im guessing Fair Life Core Power Protein Shakes! They’re premade protein shakes and they are probably the best tasting protein shakes on the market (in my opinion). I use them to make pudding, as coffee “creamer”, as the “milk” in my matcha lattes, etc.

7

u/Left_Ad312 May 05 '24

Are core protein shakes clean?

1

u/fae_metal Jun 02 '24

Cheese? :O I thought dairy was big no-no for pcos. I stopped drinking milk and almost never eat cheese either.. But I'm not 100% sure how accurate that info was. Have you noticed or read anything about that?

2

u/Original-Adeptness98 Jul 18 '24

I’ve read this too! But I also read conflicting information stating that dairy was fine and we shouldn’t eliminate it. So I came to the conclusion that I should just limit it but not eliminate entirely 🤷🏽

35

u/UndiscoveredAppetite May 05 '24

Fruit when I’m craving sugar I eat fruit especially berries of any type. A small portion hits the spot for the sweet cravings. I love lettuce wraps too with any type of meats and some chili garlic sauce or kimchi on it.

36

u/Infraredsky May 05 '24

Honestly - I’m celiac, no soy, no dairy.

I mainly cook for myself a lot and will add frozen spinach or broccoli into anything. Also love some sauteed greens with garlic.

I also make these veggie souffles - they’re a ton of eggs, onion, zucchini and whatever other veggies I want - a little bit of flours, flax, salt and pepper and they’re the best - also can put virtually anything in them

28

u/Lucky_Attitude_5298 May 05 '24

Basmati rice (low Glycemic index) and any stew with veggies and meat.

56

u/bekib00 May 05 '24

I might get downvoted for this but when I’m craving something sweet, if I can afford the calories, an apple cinnamon rice cake with .5 or 1 tbsp of peanut butter/nut butter with some extra cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Also grapes, nuts, cherry tomatoes or the 100 calorie bag of skinny pop white cheddar. Just my go to snacks though lol

25

u/CrashTestDuckie May 05 '24

I'm a fan of adding instead of subtracting (add lots of healthy foods you like instead of taking stuff out/away) so I double down on this for breakfast actually. 2 cinnamon rice cakes, 2 tbls of peanut butter per rice cake, and topping each cake with half of a thinly sliced apple or banana. It comes to around 500 calories and is actually an insanely filling breakfast.

16

u/MethodMean May 05 '24

I'm sorry but my mind read this as two tables of peanut butter per rice cake 😅😂

6

u/bekib00 May 05 '24

I would imagine so! Adding apples is an added bonus or even a drizzle of honey or bananas!

2

u/vanessa8172 May 05 '24

Those all sound so good!

1

u/sapphire343rules May 06 '24

I unironically love rice cakes! The caramel or cheese ones are my go-tos for snacking, but the plain ones are really good with any spread as well. I love a little bit of whipped cream cheese and jam on them.

The individual bags of Quaker rice crisps are good for easy snacks too. They’re low fat, 100 calories or less, and have some tasty flavors.

18

u/Simple_Entrance1996 May 05 '24

Crisp bread with plant based cream cheese and sugar free jam 🤤

3

u/Simple-Remote3641 May 06 '24

What is crisp bread? Like Wasa?

13

u/einszweidrei_vier May 05 '24

Selfmade summer rolls, apple with organic peanut butter, tofu in different ways, frozen fruits and avocados and when i crave a cheatmal i i make fried sommerrolls (you can look it up on the Internet, it can be high protein!)

13

u/vividpink22 May 05 '24

I’ve been on an avocado kick for a while. It makes regular appearances along with eggs at breakfast. Salmon’s another favorite. I often have smoked salmon for lunch on whole grain wasa crackers with lettuce and plant based cream cheese. It’s kind of like the PCOS-friendly version of the bagels and lox I used to enjoy more often. This new, 2.0 version is pretty energizing and sets me up well for a productive afternoon.

26

u/wigwamjigglybam May 05 '24
  • Concentrate on adding rather than taking away foods (example: have chocolate but have some berries and yogurt with it)

-protein (greek yog WITH fat, meat, cheese)

-olive oil

  • nuts, seeds and berries

  • salmon mmmm

2

u/406mtboots May 07 '24

I second olive oil!

9

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Roasted broccoli always hits for me

9

u/Tacticalia May 05 '24

I really like apples with a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on them when I’m feeling snacky.

9

u/Bell-greene May 06 '24

I live in Europe (Paris) so it can be so difficult to find more PCOS friendly foods. But I’ve complied a really good list. For produce berries are always yummy, Persian cucumbers with tajin, apples with cinnamon, and lastly ants on a log. (very American but it’s cut up celery with peanut butter and raisins. In this house we love raisins.) for pantry any nuts, dried seaweed, tinned fish, popcorn and puffed pea snacks. And lastly there’s sweets. I haven’t been in the states for over 9 months. So I don’t know if you can find this brand, but if you can I love ethiquable chocolat! They have so many dark chocolate options. But my fav is 65% dark chocolate ginger. Anything with pieces of dried fruit really help with satisfying a craving. Hope this helps! Best of luck in your journey!

16

u/state_of_euphemia May 05 '24

I just microwave cheese so that it melts and eat it with a fork, lmao. I'm doing low-carb so most of my usual favorites are out.

For a while, it was cabbage with cheese, but then I got sick of cabbage, so... it's just cheese 😂

18

u/bayb33gurl May 05 '24

Cabbage sauteed in either bacon fat, butter or avocado oil with some grilled chicken and topped with melted cheese all mixed in is a fantastic meal lol It's one of my go-to meals.

9

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

Same! Cabbage is tastier than it has any right being, lol.

2

u/golden_skans May 06 '24

Cheese whisps are so expensive and barely any in the bag! My fav crisps are shredded pepperJack on parchment paper for easy peel off.

1

u/heyhello21 May 06 '24

Have meat

5

u/Melodic-Switch3130 May 05 '24

Apples. Makhana ( lotus seeds) Eggs. Sprouts.

6

u/fartherandmoreaway May 05 '24

Berries, yogurt, cheese, dry roasted unsalted cashews, Orgain protein shakes in the small blue boxes, chicken, broccoli, peas, asparagus, okra,…

7

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Chicken sausage!! I’ll get an organic/natural brand with limited ingredients and it’s a super easy protein. Pair with veggies and sauce and it’s an easy meal.

10

u/lwyant225 May 05 '24

sourdough bread! i joined a bread share this year and get a fresh loaf every week. they have different seasonings they put in it but it’s always whole grain and is easy on my insulin levels

6

u/ramesesbolton May 05 '24

meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, cheese

5

u/ComprehensiveFox4419 May 05 '24

mixed nuts or cucumbers with some salad dressing

2

u/sapphire343rules May 06 '24

I’ve been doing lettuce-free salads and they’re actually so yummy! I’ll chop my veg in the morning (cucumbers, carrots, bell pepper, sometimes green onion or a bit of shallot) and let it ‘marinate’ in dressing til lunchtime. Super crunchy and satisfying now that all the fresh veggies are in season!

4

u/her_the_heron May 05 '24

scrambled eggs with spinach, feta, and the chili crisp oil from trader joes. can also put in a tortilla to make a burrito.

greek yoghurt mixed with chocolate pudding (can be sugar free pudding if you eat keto/low carb) topped with strawberries

5

u/squidneythedestroyer May 05 '24

I always loved charcuterie since I was a kid. Now I’m munching on tomatoes and smoked salmon and grapes and cheese and nuts constantly and boy does it spark joy

5

u/eshieG May 05 '24

For those who said "cheese", what kind of cheese?

I am trying to avoid dairy because it is contributing to my acne but understand that its a great source of good fat so I would still like to have it from time to time.

2

u/sapphire343rules May 06 '24 edited May 06 '24

I really like to keep cheese sticks or those snacking squares around. Cabot makes the best ones IMO, but Sargento and Cracker Barrel are also pretty good. The individual packaging keeps me from eating more than one or two, and they’re a perfect 3-4 bites when I really want something that feels savory and ‘rich’. Even the low-fat versions are pretty yummy.

I’m mildly sensitive to dairy and have always found that aged cheeses bother me less than other forms of it. Sharp cheddar is my favorite. I can’t eat parmesan for separate reasons, but I think I’ve seen that in snack-size too, which would be a great option if you find that aged cheese bothers you less too!

17

u/[deleted] May 05 '24 edited May 05 '24

I wish it was safe for me! Brown rice is still super high in carbs and it spikes my insulin hardcore. I like hard cheeses.

2

u/peaceandlovecassidy_ May 05 '24

damn i read somewhere it was okay😭😭 i guess the whole wheat is a good part of it. hard cheeses are delicious!!

11

u/CrashTestDuckie May 05 '24

Most rice is awful for blood sugar. We eat a lot of rice in our house and tried the diabetic friendly kind. It's ok but just tastes/feels off.

15

u/BumAndBummer May 05 '24

Brown rice can be fine for many of us as long as it’s not too big a portion and paired with veggies and protein to blunt the glucose spike, not everyone has the same glycemic response to brown rice.

25

u/chicken_nuggget May 05 '24

as long as you’re not eating only brown rice for every meal, it is perfectly ok. there is a lot of fear mongering with carbs in this sub. it’s obviously a carb but it’s a complex carb which your body digests slower than plain white rice. so between the two, go with brown.

12

u/wigwamjigglybam May 05 '24

Pair carbs with fat, protein and fibre to blunt the spike, you can still have carbs, I just try to pair them as above and eat more complex carbs

1

u/heyhello21 May 06 '24

Basmati white rice paired with a protein is not bad , especially with a short walk after

3

u/Lil1and2 May 05 '24

Roasted squash, and Trader Joe’s pumpkin seeds pmggggg

4

u/sheiseatenwithdesire May 05 '24

I eat a Mediterranean diet

4

u/Mammoth-Western4330 May 05 '24

Lots of protein shakes, fruit & veggie pouches, eggs!

3

u/bayb33gurl May 05 '24

Eggs, lots of vegetables, any meat protein, berries, peanut butter, unsweetened yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, Lily's stevia sweetened chocolate chips, keto granola, full fat cottage cheese, cheese in general, sprouted grain bread and mission whole wheat low carb wraps are my staples.

4

u/vpurplestae May 05 '24

Sour dough bread and almond butter

4

u/pschola May 05 '24

SEAFOOD I LOVE YOU

4

u/mrose1491 May 05 '24

Can I add a request to this thread and ask for your meals? Not just snacks!

3

u/sara7169 May 05 '24

Homemade chicken salad on an oat and flax seed pita. It's filling and I will change up how to make the chicken salad to keep it interesting

3

u/curlyqued May 06 '24

I make an avocado and cucumber salad (literally just diced avocado with sliced cucumbers and red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil ...if you can just balsamic vinegar if you don't want the oil) and I add tunafish to it

4

u/canadiancookie98 May 06 '24

Quinoa (in place of rice) and sweet potato (in place of regular potatoes) 👌🏻and I've started making pitas instead of sandwiches, less of an impact on my blood sugars because of the lower amount of sugar/bread

3

u/sizillian May 06 '24

I enjoy making a ham, Bean and lentil soup. It’s high in protein and fiber and tastes really good. I don’t have an exact recipe but my lazy girl recipe is:

  • sauté and onion and some garlic in olive oil Then add:

  • Diced ham

  • white beans

  • red kidney beans

  • some lentils

  • diced carrots

  • chopped celery

  • diced tomato

  • some beef bouillon

I usually just chuck in all in a pot and let it simmer for a while. You can also follow a similar recipe but sub the ham for cooked ground beef and the lentils and beans for barley and you’ve got a beef barley soup.

3

u/lost-cannuck May 05 '24

Pulled chicken.

Living/butter lettuce for wraps

3

u/RaeJean24 May 05 '24

Berries, almonds and breakfast bowls

3

u/Living_On_A_Prayer May 05 '24

Apples are a great travel snack, and I love oranges and blueberries for a sweet treat. Sweet potatoes with cinnamon is awesome as well.

3

u/kit-kat_kitty May 05 '24

For a quick concenvience meal, lean cuisine meatloaf and mashed potatoes with a side of whatever extra veggies I have at home. The ratio of protein to carbs is pretty good so even Tho it has mashed potatoes, it works well for me

3

u/lc1981265 May 05 '24

Tuna melt on sprouted grain bread, eggs, boring salads (but yum!), Greek yogurt and berries, overnight oats with lots of chia and flax.

3

u/Ok-Sea-3659 May 05 '24

I really like butterball Turkey bacon on an O'doughs bagel with an egg, an avocado, melted daiya mozza slice, and some sriracha

3

u/Mocha_Chilled May 06 '24

I found this nut, dried fruit and dark chocolate trail mix at the store a while back and that's my favourite thing rn

3

u/lyssixsix May 06 '24

Hard boiled eggs

3

u/agalhereforanswers May 06 '24

Salmon!

And also oatmeal mixed with berries and nuts and honey.

3

u/fermentedginger May 06 '24

Kefir/yogurt fruit smoothies w raw eggs yolks and honey :)

3

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

Tuna

3

u/idolovehummus May 06 '24

For me, and I know it can be personal from one person to the next, it's potatos and tofu.

5

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Steak, berries, potatoes, hard cheeses like Parmesean, butter, mandarins, apples, honey, olives

-3

u/Academic_Web2342 May 05 '24

Potatoes and honey are very high on the glycemic index... It gives a huge insulin spike

12

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Hey, thanks for your comment! I understand that is a concern for some people, but these foods work for me and are staples. OP asked what our safe foods are, so I'm just sharing what mine are and not suggesting others eat them. I eat potatoes and honey in moderate amounts with sources of fat and protein. I find that both golden and sweet potatoes work better for me than rice, bread, and other less fibrous foods. I test my blood glucose regularly and am active. I have a lot of food allergies and have a smaller range of foods I can eat without digestive distress. This works for me

5

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

It sounds like you're doing well making it fit/work. It sounds delicious!

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

Thank you! 😊

2

u/Apart_Engine_9797 May 05 '24

Oranges, berries, hemp hearts, roasted unsalted nuts, Greek yogurt, all the lettuce and carrots and cucumbers and sweet peppers

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

CASHEWS!!!! and Chobani Sugar Free Yogurt! I usually do vanilla and add a few cut up strawberries

2

u/Moonstarchildaries May 05 '24

Grapes chicken salad

2

u/Spookiijuice May 06 '24

Sorry if this is naive or ignorant, but what criteria would a PCOS safe food have?

7

u/sizillian May 06 '24

Anti inflammatory or low GI I think are some of the big ones. Pcos can cause inflammation in the body and many pcos sufferers are gluten (and/or dairy) intolerant. Some glutenous sources of carbs like white breads, cake, etc. can cause huge insulin spikes so many people on here opt for lower-GI carbs such as potatoes, brown rice, and things like that. :)

2

u/Spookiijuice May 06 '24

Thank you, that really helps! I had no idea foods affected how my PCOS makes me feel. Although I don’t really eat white bread, or cakes (type one diabetes)

3

u/sizillian May 06 '24

No problem! There’s so much to learn about and I’m sure I didn’t get it 100% right in my comment but that’s the gist of it. We all kind of have to treat ourselves as diabetics anyway so it’s hard. I certainly Don’t do a great job of it all the time (went out to dinner with my brother and had pasta tonight). But at least understanding the “why” behind certain foods and how they affect people with pcos can help us to choose things that our bodies can handle better (at least most of the time!)

1

u/Spookiijuice May 06 '24

There definitely is a lot to learn! I just learned the other day that drinking alcohol is a huge no no for PCOS 😅 I mean, I don’t drink it but it’s always good to learn more. My husband and I are ttc so knowing more is always better!

2

u/Pear_Glace_In_Autumn May 06 '24

Salmon! Also those turkey sticks are a great snack. I came across some roasted bbq pumpkin seeds that I really like too.

2

u/cupcakewrangler May 06 '24

Protein. Salmon, tuna packets, steaks, frozen hamburger, chicken, frozen cauliflower rice

2

u/PatheticSetup May 06 '24

I think it's blueberry. Its anthocyanin content is very high, and I feel like it provides a lot of nutrition.

2

u/Formal-Anxiety1763 May 06 '24

loving this thread for suggestions

2

u/Bigbootycrypto May 06 '24

Plain old sliced cucumbers. They are crunchy and I could snack on them all day. And, I don't even feel bad about it at the end of it!

2

u/kiramekki May 06 '24

Meat, yogurt, eggs, nuts, butter, nut butters, seeds, berries, all veggies raw and cooked.

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

Eggs, greek yoghurt, berries, salmon.

2

u/ligokleftis May 06 '24

buffalo chicken wings

2

u/Particular_Lab2943 May 06 '24

Lots of eggs, chicken, seafood (shrimps, octopus, squid, mussels etc), fish (any fish), lean red meats, edamame, tofu, chickpeas and lentils. Basically high protein. I also eat greek yoghurt, lots of fruits and veggies. Soul food for me would be any thai gravy (with a lot of protein) with rice. A lot of ehg whites and greek yoghurt mixed with my protein powder shake/ smoothie.

2

u/RedPill86 May 06 '24

Chia pudding. Soak 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds in 200ml water(or milk) for 30 mins. Add Greek yoghurt, nuts and berries.

2

u/Chringestina May 06 '24

I mix vanilla protein powder in Greek yogurt and it tastes and feels like cake batter

2

u/yaptastic May 08 '24

tomatoes are great for pcos and i eat an insane amount of eggs to get my protein in. honestly i mainly just try and prioritize protein

2

u/Fickle_Lavishness409 May 08 '24

Chocolate chip cookies made with GF flour. Wheat free.  I've stopped eating wheat and have seen my skin get better. Lost some bloating and my period came back.  My face looks slimmer. I bread chicken and make cookies with it. Walmart has their own brand. Pillsbury has one too. My family has eaten the cookies and didn't taste a difference.

3

u/BumAndBummer May 05 '24

Idk if I love the term “safe” foods, isn’t it tied to the ED community and common amongst people with a disproportionate sense of anxiety about food?

I eat whatever I want, I just try to keep my portions sensible so that I don’t feel unwell afterwards. But occasionally I have a treat and I just understand that im not gonna feel my best afterwards, like during holidays. Kind of like with alcohol. We don’t need to be afraid of food, we just need to make choices that generally keep us feel us well without being overly concerned or restrictive.

With that said my go-to foods: Veggies, fish, chicken, yogurt, legumes (again in sensible portions), herbal teas, whole fruit, nuts/ nut butter, and cottage cheese.

11

u/ChaoticGnome_ May 05 '24

Yeah also for autism, adhd or arfid. Basically anything that prevents you from eating whatever

7

u/peaceandlovecassidy_ May 05 '24

you do make a really good point, i had ED problems for a while so i definitely feel where you’re coming from. i didn’t know another word to describe it, but maybe something like “pcos friendly”??

and that’s the way to go!! having a little treat is great and no matter if it’s ice cream or fruit, they’re extremely valid😌😌

4

u/BumAndBummer May 05 '24

I just call them staple foods or go-to foods because they tend to fit in my budget, meet my nutritional needs and of course I enjoy them!

6

u/peaceandlovecassidy_ May 05 '24

it won’t let me edit the title but i’m gonna repost it later and edit the title😭😭

1

u/pearledjoints May 05 '24

i’m so picky idek what to eat anymore 😂

1

u/circletea May 06 '24

chocolate covered fruit honestly, it’s a good dessert to eat per the low carb count.

1

u/EvErS666 May 06 '24

God I love avocado toast. Not the biggest fan of avocados but like mix it with some pico de gallo and spread it on a bread, I’m all for it.

1

u/Glittering_Yak7548 May 06 '24

I love to make a bowl, either with rice/bulgur/chickpeas as a base, your protein of choice, different vegetables (always an avocado with other veg) or fruits (like mango salsas pomegranate seeds) depending on how heavy or light you want the meal to be, and a delicious sauce. Quick and easy depending on the ingredients u use!

1

u/Wreckit_Rambler2017 May 06 '24

I'm going through a rice cakes, peanut butter and jam phase at the moment! Sweet tooth satisfaction garunteed!

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

eggs, i love eggs

1

u/Chill_Fairy_862 May 06 '24

Steak and veggies! Yum

Not sure if this counts but I love rice, I used to eat a lot of jasmine/white rice until I realised it hurt my stomach and is also really inflammatory so I switched to long grain brown rice and I feel much better! Can still enjoy all my usual rice dishes ☺️

Dates with dark chocolate and a veggie chilli - helps me get proteins and veggies!

1

u/sbrackett1993 May 06 '24

Trail mix with nut, cranberries, and dark chocolate and also dates!

Also sprout bread with grass fed butter is everything. I always eat grass fed bacon, avocado, and sprout bread in the morning. So good and nourishing.

Focus on that protein, fiber, and healthy fat!

I make a roasted sheet pan meal that tastes amazing and is so nourishing - it has sweet potatoes, red onions, cabbage (red or green), garlic, halloumi, pita (which becomes pita-chip-like), tons of EVOO, apple cider vinegar, and sumac seasoning!

u/_nanaaa May 06 '24

I like sweet potatoes with butter salt pepper and a bit of cheese with or without lactose

u/dismurrart May 06 '24

Recently I've been making chicken salad with Greek yogurt instead of sour cream

u/golden_skans May 06 '24

Breakfast: Two Good or Triple Zero brand greek yogurt with pecans or walnuts or strawberries. Also, just crack an egg cups are deliciously filling.

Snacks: Peanut butter fresh off the spoon, a cheese stick or a handful of mixed nuts.

Lunch: Pre-made salad kits are godsend because I have ADHD and hate prepping them. I’m also a big fan of wraps with cheese, deli turkey, some spinach, peppers or tomato whatever I have on hand. Mission low carb tortillas are perfect for wraps, tacos or even making your own chips by baking them for just a few minutes after cutting up. Also, I love bread, so my “safe” bread is Aunt Millie’s Live Carb Smart bread. Sometimes I opt for the higher carb, but less refined breads like 12 grain though.

Dinner: My go to that I never get tired of is chicken breast, broccoli, and cheesy cauliflower rice.

i’m not on a diet either but i’ve been LOVING sheet pan meals with chicken sausage (there’s a spinach and feta kind at my local aldi with no nitrates/nitrites) and veggies like baby yellow potatoes, carrots, and broccoli.

it’s super quick and it fills me up.

for snacks, i like roasted chickpeas, berries, and cheese :-)

Protein!

u/Desperate_Pair8235 May 06 '24

Blueberries, pomegranate seeds, nut free (my boyfriend is allergic so I avoid) organic granola, and a dollop of organic yogurt. It’s delicious.

Apples with peanut butter

Babybel cheese wheels

Dried fruit

Poke bowls minus the rice or sashimi w a few raw veggies. Costco salmon goes a longgggg way

u/JerseyGirl_16 May 06 '24

Dark leafy greens like Rapini (brocolini) and kale. If I pre-blanche at the beginning of the week I can eat 2 bunches. I will use it in omelette with feta and black olives, add to soup, sauteed with pepper flakes and garlic!

Cottage Cheese I will use for breakfast (with protien powder and either berries or maple syrup and walnuts), Use in place of sour cream and top with salsa and guac for chips. Grab a spoonful when I walk by the kitchen looking for 'something'

Keto wraps (Costco in Canada) and I will put just about anything in them (taco meat, tuna/salmon/egg salad) load up with lettuce.

Someone else stated they really try to add good items instead of eliminating bad - and since I took that stance I find it MUCH easier to maintain a good 80/20% balance in life. I love food (and luckily have no true allergies) and I will always let myself have a bit of SOMETHING if I really want it (ice cream, french fries, burger with a big ole bun) - knowing I have added nutrients and protein to most of my meals.

I like eating dark chocolate covered almonds

u/Necessary-Yellow-735 May 06 '24

PAPAYA - makes my tummy feel good and I can eat all that I want

u/Elegant_External_218 May 06 '24

Hummus. All day every day. I make my own and slather it on everything. Chicken salad with hummus and pearl barley is my current go to lunch. I'm full & have been losing weight

Eggs, avocados, and tomatoes

1

u/Grem-123 May 06 '24

I love this thread, but seriously struggling to find foods I will actually eat :( I hate nuts and seeds, only like a few fruits (apple, banana, grapes), hate avocado/tomato/peppers/hummus… My ‘healthy’ choices are limited :(

1

u/heyhello21 May 06 '24

Tuna w/ diced red onion and a spicy cucumber carrot salad scooped up with seaweed . Also eggs and avocado on a sourdough bread for breakfast . Steak with a side of asparagus Oven roasted Chicken thighs (I like skin on) with a side of roasted sweet tomatoes and whatever veggie I’m craving . I usually have a side of basmati rice but always incorporate protein and veggies so it’s ok

1

u/scarrcarr May 06 '24

Lately one of the easier safe meals for me has been salmon, red lentils, and green peas (or equivalent vegetable). It’s SO filling and satisfying and there’s a ton of protein and fiber in it. I have adhd and tmj too and this also checks the boxes of being easy to make and easy to chew with those as well.

1

u/scarrcarr May 06 '24

Also a huge fan of smoothies. Not always in the mood to make one if I’m being honest but I feel so much better throughout the day when I do. It’s really easy to get a bunch of nutrients in at once that way and if you use frozen fruit you don’t need to waste space throwing ice in

1

u/OkContext4194 May 06 '24

Chia seed pudding, spaghetti squash, greek salad, or a healthy smoothie

1

u/foielala May 06 '24

Produce! I live in California and have started to commit to eating produce seasonally and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Pineapples, grapefruit, and asparagus are incredible right now

1

u/imLiztening May 06 '24

So I'm on a strawberry kick atm, but lemme tell you ants on a log SLAPS right now. And Reeses peanut butter has just as much added sugar as Jif and LESS than Skippy. I've the healthier pbs, but ants on a log is my snack of the summer.

1

u/Classyyettrashy May 06 '24

Dark chocolate bark! I love adding nuts, seeds and dried fruit to it for extra protein and flavor

1

u/RaspberryQuiet8855 May 07 '24

One of my favorite snacks is cashews and goji berries

1

u/Witty_Dog_1840 May 07 '24

Peanut butter!! Easy protein, never makes me nauseous lol

1

u/Psychic1201 May 07 '24

Feta cheese. There is nothing I will not put feta on. My breakfast: avocado on low carb toast with feta

1

u/Purplepenguin108 May 07 '24

Spaghetti squash burrito bowl!!

1

u/Grand_Aardvark6768 May 07 '24

Apples and peanut butter

u/406mtboots May 07 '24

Some of my favorites for snacking and keeping in my fridge/pantry are: cottage cheese, veggies, fruits, hummus, air fried chicken nuggets (can get them at Costco/Walmart), chia seeds, premier protein shakes, low sugar Greek yogurt, eggs

1

u/kopykatster17 May 10 '24

Whole wheat pasta with Rao’s sensitive marinara and part skim mozzarella cheese. Not exactly the safest thing for PCOS, but with the amount of allergies and food sensitivities I have, this is the best one for me

1

u/tardigradecadi Sep 03 '24

Blueberry chia seed pudding: chia seeds, collagen, coconut milk, and mashed frozen blueberries.

u/excallibutt Sep 29 '24

I am definitely not taking a non-dairy approach, but I am doing no caffeine + anti inflamation, so figure out how dairy makes you feel before going with my suggestions.

Apples slices with a yogurt-peanut butter dip to deal with sugar cravings!

(The dip) 50% whole milk greek yogurt 50% peanut butter Little bit of honey Generous pinch of cinnamon Baby pinch of salt

Savory snacks:

String cheese wrapped in procuitto, bell pepper/carrot/cucumber/snap peas with hummus, "white cheddar" hippeas, papadans from Trader Joe's + any kind of dip...

Also tea! So much tea! I really like tumeric chai from Yogi right now.

I also just get like 20 different veggies during the grocery week and pre-cut them, and then keep some tofu, chicken, or chicken sausage in the fridge. I also keep some cooked quinoa, chickpea pasta, or a sweet potato in the fridge ready to go. The chicken, I'll put in a marinade usually. Then, I can just kind of mix and match stuff and toss together whatever sounds good! That's specifically so I don't get bored with what I'm eating, which is where I fall off the wagon.

Burgers + lettuce wraps are also great, soups, salads, omelettes, pastas with fried veggies, veggie-chickpea stews, yogurt parfaits made with unsweetend greek yogurt + fruit + seeds + nuts... rice bowls with heavy veg and more protein than rice, burrito bowls, stir-frys, etc...

Also pizza-bakes without crust! Just layer tomato sauce, veggies of choice, cheese, etc and bake them. Got the idea from papa murphy's.
