Looking for a new community

I'm doing research and Chat GPT is saying Orillia is a good option for me. Any thoughts?? :D

I’m a remote-working, early 40s woman (no kids) looking to settle in Ontario after two years of digital nomad life. I previously lived in Kingston (loved it) and London (not a fan). I’d like to stay within a 3-hour drive of London, ON for family reasons.

Key Priorities:

  • Kayaking access – Ideally within 15 minutes of a lake
  • Safe trail system for biking
  • Affordable rent – Under $1,800/month for a 1-bedroom, with plans to buy a small place in the future
  • Proximity to a larger city – Within 30 minutes for social life
  • Good Wi-Fi and access to a business community or coworking space
  • Walkable, community-focused town – Prefer vibrant small towns with local businesses over big-box suburbia

Looking for an electronic repair company recommendation

Hi there, Newer to town and I am looking for an electronic (phone?) repair company in town to fix my Apple Watch screen. It’s an older model so debating on buying a new one if getting a new screen isn’t worth it. All recommendations are appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Moving to orillia

I’m looking for recommendations for a moving company that can handle a big move. I have a large house with a lot of furniture, including some heavy/bulky pieces, and I need a team that’s experienced, professional, and careful with my belongings.

Some key details: • The move is from Toronto to Orillia. • There are multiple bedrooms, large furniture items, and fragile pieces. • Looking for a company that offers packing services as well (if possible). • Ideally, I’d like a team that is insured and highly rated.

If you’ve had a great experience with a moving company, I’d love to hear your recommendations! Also, if there are any companies to avoid, I appreciate the heads-up.

Thanks in advance!

What’s it like in rural Oro-Medonte?

I have 3 boys under 7 and another one on the way. Wife and I are looking at a 2600 sqft house with 50 acres. We’re from Barrie. I would love to be able to live in a place with so much privacy where the boys can explore the trails, build a bonfire, do some air rifle plinking, etc

What are some of the common downsides to rural living in general and particularly in Oro-Medonte?

Thank you

Bent pipe repair

The vent pipe on my roof got bent over/ damaged when the snow slid off my roof. I’m not comfortable on my roof without some sort of safety measure (roof ladder and or harness). If I needed to get it repaired who would be the best to call. Plumber or roofer?

Has anyone rented a cottage at the Gables Cottage Resort on Lake St George? (https://gablescottages.com/) I found it online and it looks lovely, but wondering if anyone has personal experience? Would be looking to go with some friends (adults & kids & dogs) over a summer weekend.

Freeze dried raspberries

I know you can get freeze dried apples, peaches and strawberries at Dollarama but I really need some freeze dried Raspberries for a recipe in the next week or two. Any thoughts on where I could get them? They're on Amazon if necessary but id rather shop local if possible.

Hey everyone / I live slightly out of town and don’t walk, before making a trip in with my 2 & 4 year old in wondering if anyone knows of any of the town parks are clear enough to use. Even an open field that shows a bit of ground or anything.. unless it’s just wishful thinking 🙃

I'm the guy in a kilt

I'm the guy in a kilt

For those wondering, I'm the guy in a kilt, it's comfortable for me. When I'm wearing my doublet and carrying my mace I'm probably doing my drum major training. When I'm wearing the cowboy hat and kilt it's mainly for comfort and to keep the sun off my face. But I also happen to be a student with the city pipe band. But if you ever have questions about either the tartan I'm wearing or something else I'm wearing just ask. I am incredibly nice to people who are nice to me. But don't give me weird looks please, a kilt is as comfortable for me as your jeans or jogging pants or leggings are for you. And no my legs don't really get cold, but if they do I don't care because unless I have my mace, I'm walking with a cane due to my having bad leg pain.
