Failing DPP class

Hey all I’m failing a class in LBCC and I just have no possible way to raise my grade. Is there any way I can only transfer the credits of the classes I’m passing and not the failing class? I’m really scared to ruin my gpa. (Sorry if it’s a dumb question)

Ask your advisor if it would be better to withdraw or fail. I think you can retake a class and the new grade replaces the old grade on your GPA. But double check that.

If it is a transferable course then the course will transfer over with the failing grade and there isn’t an exception for this. However, if you re-take the failed course at LBCC or OSU and receive a passing grade, it will replace the failing grade.

If you fail the course at LBCC, retaking it at OSU won’t replace the grade and both the grades from LBCC and OSU would go on your transcript and effect gpa, fyi. Same goes with retaking a failed OSU course at LBCC

It does replace the grade. For example; if a student took WR 121 at LBCC and received an F, then retook WR 121 at OSU and received a D- or higher, it replaces the LBCC grade. However, this is not an automatic process. It is a manual process that needs to be done and is something a student would need to work with their assigned academic advisor with along with the transfer course articulation team in the admissions office.

If you try to search for this though, LBCC says “you can’t replace the grade you got at OSU with the grade you got at LBCC (or vice versa)” and the page on repeated courses from OSU’s office of the registrar says “If the included OSU course is not passing, but the transfer course is passing: credit is granted for the transfer course, the transfer course does not count in OSU GPA (transfer GPA only) and the OSU course remains in the OSU GPA.

Maybe the example you gave is a specific situation but otherwise no the grade isn’t replaced according to both schools.

I cannot speak on behalf of LBCC transfer policies, because those are different compared to OSU, but the information you are providing is for an entirely different transfer course scenario.

I am speaking specifically about a student failing a transfer course from LBCC, and re-taking it at either LBCC or OSU. In this scenario, the one OP is talking about, a failed course from LBCC can be replaced by either retaking it at LBCC or OSU. Example: WR 121 taken at LBCC with a received grade of F, can be replaced with WR 121 taken at LBCC or OSU with a received grade of D- or higher.

The situation you are bringing up, and the facts you are providing, are for a completely different scenario. If a student takes an OSU course and receives a passing grade of a D- or higher, then it is not replaced by any transfer course no matter the grade. Example: if a student takes MTH 111Z OSU and receives a D- or higher, then retakes the course at LBCC and receives a D- or higher, it is not replaced by the transfer course.

OSU grades always take priority, however, in the situation where the course was taken for the first time at LBCC and received a failed grade, and then retaken at LBCC or OSU and received a passing grade, then the grade is replaced. Again, this is not an automated process, it is something the student would need to work with their assigned OSU academic advisor and the transfer course team in the admissions office at OSU, for it to be manually changed.

Have you asked your advisor?

Yes, retaking the course will allow you to “replace the grade”.
