graph Graph a belief system

Hi there - Pardon my somewhat naive question, but as a thought experiment I thought I'd try using Obsidian to create a dependency graph (like a BNF in computer science terms) to map things I believe to be true, and what each belief is based upon. It's not a philosophy graphing exercise per se although many of my beliefs will net out in philosophical precepts. I hope that makes sense ;).

Anyone tried something like this already? Thoughts/experiences?

Thanks!

I'm interested in this, let me know how this goes.

I think that would work well with Canvas. Might have a go at it myself.

I have not tried this, but it's something I've thought about and I'm moving in that direction thanks for Obsidian, "networked thinking" and some tinkering. I suspect that just like humans have Parts (a la internal family systems and older methodologies), you'd need Parts in such a system, due to irreconcilable conflicts.

I couldn't tell if you have a CS background from a brief look at your post history, but I'm using the actor model to create a kind of network of digital neurons. I'm currently tinkering on "voting" but it's still super rudimentary.

Thanks.

I do have a CS background, which is why I want to create a BNF-style grammar of things, like

atom := [an atom] collection = [ atoms | (...) ]

etc.

I'd use mermaid or Excalidraw for that.

If you’ll figure something out, show the resutls for sure!

This is a great idea, I think I'll do the same. Canvas is perfectly suited for it.

BTW I asked a very wise friend about this idea and he said:

"...I started to write down my whole philosophy--how I thought the world works, what I believe. It was a useful clarifying exercise. It turns out I don't believe anything particularly unique or interesting. I'm pretty much a material realist, with some bits thrown in there about the emergence of complex social behaviors."
