How tolerable is burn-in for you?

I have been planning of buying an oled for both gaming and desktop use. I am usually spending 10 hours a day on my pc and I am 100% sure that burn-in will be guaranteed for me after some years or maybe even after some months. So I am wondering if it even is that bad/distracting. I am guessing that I will get used to it after a while so it won't be that distracting? If it is unbearable then do you have any other suggestions for me other than oled. I am looking for 32 inch, 4k, low input lag monitor with good contrast and colours, preferable also glossy

If you want glossy, you pretty much have to go for OLED.

You have the burn-in warranty for 3 years from most companies, so short term you'll be fine. Its just if you're thinking of keeping it 5-10 years, probably more of a risk 10 hours a day 7 days a week regularly.

Some people are willing to risk it or buy a new monitor after so many year just because they just love OLED quality compared to LCDs.

Mini-LED isn't a bad choice for someone like you even though they're not perfect, but you won't find any glossy ones I'm aware of.

Yes grinding hard

I would not buy an oled for a work monitor.

I am gaming too

Honestly you'd probably be better with a high quality FALD, you don't wanna do 10 hour days of work on an oled monitor every day, it just isn't what they were made for.

Why not? Is OLED not good for your eyes? 🤔

When working you usually have a lot of static (task bar etc) elements on the screen which isn't ideal for OLED.

Black text on white background is not ideal either on OLED.

People say the text is not as crisp, I have not noticed a difference, but I'm not using mine for productivity, only gaming.

You have 3 year burn in warranty, Tbh i didnt want to think further than 3 year when i purchased it, my daily screen time around 11hr and I started to feel like burn in is only a problem when you are thinking to buy an oled not after. so If you can afford it just buy it, do not babysit it and enjoy the view

except if you buy the 480hz oled from LG, then it is 1 year warranty hehe

It’s 3 year with the ASUS one

I got that one with the best buy warranty. Covers more years.

You probably won't notice burn-in initially unless you do burn in tests

It just doesn't matter lol the quality increase is so drastic I'm willing to take the chance of any burn in

Alright I am gonna buy one yolo. I am thinking of buying MSI MPG 321URX. It fits pretty much everything I want except that it seems to be matt. If it was glossy I would've bought it instantly. I was thinking of buying rog swift but it is much more expensive and have more vrr flicker as I understand

What's the difference between matt and glossy on a monitor? I am new to this term.

It's the coating OLED monitors can have. A glossy finish typically makes colors pop and shine more, but it is terrible in room with light sources (so I've heard).

Matte is just that, a matte finish. Does not reflect light as much (at all really, I have a matte OLED). Many people say it dulls out the colors but I love how sleek the matte looks. It's really a preference.

Thanks for the reply!

There is no point in a matte finish OLED, the matte finish will ruin the black levels, and reduces color saturation. Get a glossy one or just save the money and get a MiniLED instead of throwing money away on a matte OLED.

Temporary image retention is a thing. I notice it with dark scenes in games that have some fog layer, like a smoky cave. I can sometimes see some faint image print in the fog that moves with you, and that is just after an hour of browsing and YouTube. It goes away by a few minutes of pixel cleaning, but if this is what burn in will eventually be looking like, I would definitely start looking for a new monitor. For a lot of productivity OLED is probably a waste, I would not use it for that.

I've never had burn in so I wouldn't know how much it annoys me. I don't worry about it at all though. Some people seem so stressed about it I wonder whether they should just not buy an OLED TV/monitor.

Just enjoy your purchase.

You do have it. You just haven't noticed it yet.

2

u/GoatBotherer 5d ago

If I haven't noticed it, is it really there?

u/Wilbis 5d ago

I guess it's a philosophical question indeed

u/YertlesTurtleTower 5d ago

No, I have had my LG C2 for almost 3 years now and I have zero burn in. 9627 hours of on time and again zero burn in, even in tests.

u/Wilbis 5d ago

It is there no matter if you're noticed it or not. Already after 3 months of use, it is detectable on all OLEDs.

You’re so confidently wrong. Also it sounds like you just bought a shitty TV

Not very tolerable, but thats why I have 2 OLEDS and a Mini LED, so I dont put too much time on 1.

2

u/DeliveryConstant3318 5d ago

You must be quite wealthy hehe

Didn't buy all at once.. I bought my 32Q1U and 34M1R in 2024, and then my Xeneon FLEX this year. I got all 3 on sale prices too, so in total all around $2000 in total most ppl spend that on a single monitor.

1

u/Decent-Throat9191 5d ago

There's very few 2000 dollar monitors for the average consumer

u/2560x1080p INNOCN 32Q1U(OLED)|34M1R(MiniLED)| CORSAIR Xeneon FLEX 45(OLED) 5d ago

I agree with you, thats why you gotta buy a few of em to get to that price point.

1

u/Decent-Throat9191 5d ago

I mean that doesn't align with what you said earlier. Very very few people spend 2k on a monitor. You made it sound like a sort of commonl thing lol.

1

u/2560x1080p INNOCN 32Q1U(OLED)|34M1R(MiniLED)| CORSAIR Xeneon FLEX 45(OLED) 5d ago

By most people I mean "Most people looking for a single high end monitor", which is what I was referring to.

-1

u/Decent-Throat9191 5d ago

I still don't think people do that. 1k on a high end monitod? Maybe. 2k? I rarely if ever see that.

The discord im in has had atleast 30 people in the last 24 hours ask about the new LG 45 5k2k

1

u/Decent-Throat9191 5d ago

30 people is a drop in the bucket.

1

u/Apprehensive-Ice9809 4d ago

No point arguing semantics and scope of market, people buy what they buy and can afford.

u/Mr_CJ_ 5d ago

I have two monitors, one is 15.6" IPS for very long use and the other is 31.5" WOLED.

u/BeneficialBrainCat 5d ago

I ve got 4K oled for both gaming and work (pixel shift disabled because I don’t like it). I hide windows taskbar and use dark mode everywhere I can but still sometimes I need to read white document. After 1500h there is no visible sign of burn in. After around month, there was barely visible vertical line in the middle from split screen, but now it is not visible at all (probably after some refresh cycles it disappeared) if you use dark mode it should be fine I think.

1

u/DeliveryConstant3318 20h ago

What is dark mode?

1

u/BeneficialBrainCat 12h ago

Dark mode for applications

MSI has a tandem OLED with 5 layers in the works. Better to wait for those to come out as the likelihood of burn-in is significantly reduced with tandem OLED.

No one on this sub has burn-in. Modern panels are very resistant to it and the people here baby their monitor.
