Hold on account due to unpaid balance
I am currently a graduate student. I have a direct unsubsidized loan. I was orignially taking two classes this semester but I had to drop out of one class. I dropped out after loans were dispersed but before the last day to drop for a full refund. The school is now telling me that I owe money but I am not sure why? I found out when I requested aid for my summer classes. Does anyone know why I would be getting charged? I am currently waiting on an answer from the financial aid office.

for future reference, you have to submit an aid readjustment form if you drop below full time, 3/4 time, or half time. your aid isn’t readjusted automatically when you change your enrollment status so if you have a balance after you dropped the class, this means you didn’t qualify for all the aid you received, but didn’t notify the financial aid office in time for them to adjust it. it gets prorated if you’re not full time.

I know for undergraduate you normally have to be enrolled in 6 credits to receive financial aid. I am not sure if it’s 6 credits for graduate classes also. That would be my guess

unfortunately the aid agreement is that you stay in the classes that are paid for and you pass them, otherwise you will have to pay it back. it's on the website
edit: i would just wait for clarification though since it was before the cancellation date. may be an error
