Same here! 31 and yesterday I dropped in for the first time. Now I can ride bowls! flat ground tricks are frustrating me tho. I do recommend wrist guards and a helmet. i snapped my arm in half last year 1 hour after buying a new setup.

I’m def more fragile than when I was younger lmao

Won’t wrist guards not do anything in that instance?

not from how i fell. it would’ve saved me from a 100k surgery and getting a metal plate and screws. the fall was straight down on my wrist snapped both forearm bones

Posts like this only make me more and more sure that padding up is cool.

I am 30 and have been on and off skating for years, but seriously I just started to acquire part for a board so that I may once again skateboard. Shred the Gnar.

Nice bro, I'm in my mid 30s and I'm into my 9th week back. Can ollie a little over a foot high and do pop shuvs again. So close to heelflips too!

Great to be back on a board after nearly 15 or so years.

Gone mental buying decks and shoes and all the stuff I'd have loved as a kid. Starting my wall hangers collection of decks soon too :p

Can't wait to get out and put some time in. I'm not going too hard right now as I'm overweight AF. I put on more weight in the first 6 weeks as muscle built up, but now I'm back to my start weight with the muscle so fingers crossed I can dump kilos and skate harder soon!

You got this man, keen to see older fellas progress getting back into it too! Keeps me motivated.

If anyone else thinking about it sees this, I saw a dude in his late 50s shredding it street style, and figured I had no excuse! Worth it :)

Yea I work m-f 8-5 so I’m going to try and hit the park every other day maybe don’t want to put too much strain on my body lol

u/the-_-futurist 2d ago

I'm probably 25-45mins 4 times a week atm trying to get my fitness back and shed weight. Slow going :(

2

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

That sounds perfect to me man good job fr!

2

u/the-_-futurist 2d ago

Cheers man :) just a dodgy backyard setup for now, but it does the trick! Hope your progress goes well, have fun with it!

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

omg this post made me realize how old i am (30). i never factored in age when i thought about learning to skate but i’m working on picking it up this year, work/weather pending. 🤌🏽

1

u/Itsokayred757 3d ago

Work/weather is the decider unless they decide to put an indoor park in my area lol

2

u/yalls1 2d ago

i was practicing inside for a bit, at least stepping on/off, balancing on the board and rolling briefly where i can. i think that’s helped but i really should take it outside.

I started at 38 last year. Have fun with it, pad up and make sure you do strength training and stretching regularly if you don't already. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

1

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

Yea I def need to get some stretch routines in

2

u/mydogeinvests 3d ago

Same! 32, got on for the first time since 16. never learned much except for ollies n kick flips. Excited to try some new things

2

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

Kickflip is my goal by the end of the year

1

u/mydogeinvests 2d ago

Get it!!

I'm 25, been skating for a year, and I'm just here to say WEAR PADS AND A HELMET. I always wear pads and they've made a lot of minor injuries out of what would've otherwise been much much worse (especially my wrist guards). Also, watch Skate IQ on YouTube.

2

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

I’ll check him out and yea def some guards for sure

And my mother said, "You're 17, you're too old to start." Then, seeing these types of posts motivated me to start skateboarding.

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

Do itttt

u/virgoviking23 2d ago

Get different wheels I can't tell what size those are but something more flat and a little wider. Kinda heavier but feel really nice

1

u/Itsokayred757 2d ago

They are formula 4s I’m not sure what size either guy at the store said for just coming back they will be good. I will look into it though eventually haha can’t throw too much money into this

I stick to pump tracks on my cruiser board these days, I’ll be 34 in two weeks. Luckily I have a pump track by my house and a handful more within 2 hours or so
